This place is a total man cave! I popped into this military surplus store today to pick up some Lodge cast iron cookware. They have everything for outdoors and military gear as well as a few things even a prissy chick like me could appreciate, like pink Chuck Taylors. It pretty much looks like a large garage of man toys. Some, but not much, organization. Watch your step and dress for a little activity: I climbed up some boxes to reach the skillet that I wanted. They definitely have the best and most affordable Lodge cast iron in town. I got a griddle and skillet. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they know their stuff. They will give you your space to shop and look around, but they are happy to help you with any questions or offer you tips.

Recently I needed a Vietnam era poncho for a client but was out so I bought one on ebay from Gi…read moreJoes Army Surplus in Newport News, Virginia. When the poncho arrived, I opened the box and it was a WWII Hoodless. I sent him an email immediately to let him know he had sent a more valuable poncho but that I needed to exchange it for a Vietnam era hooded poncho. I even told him that I knew the ponchos had come from SEICO based on the packing talc and the WWII Hoodless mixed in Vietnam era ones. I explained how I had received four of them in the past mixed in with about 120 of the 1959 dated ponchos I had purchased from SEICO. I included photos with my email as well. He insisted that the poncho had a hood as he could see the draw string at the neck. I responded that the WWII ponchos have the string at the neck. I sent the poncho back and expressed that I was in a hurry to get the correct poncho for a client. I was told that the replacement would ship as soon as the original was dropped at the post office. He never sent the replacement. Today he emailed that he had received the poncho and that I am attempting to deceive him. He states that there is no way he could have mistaken the ponchos, that he would have noticed color differences (I pointed out the WWII are rubberized on one side only), that I am a liar and trying to deceive him, etc. The man clearly is ignorant of the finer details of surplus and knows nothing of WWII goods. He insists that all USGI ponchos have hoods (no WWII ponchos have hoods). I tried to tell him to look at the ink stamps around the neck, he responded that it should have them at the corner (only hooded ponchos have them there). The ink stamp is very faint, but if he will wipe the neck area with a damp cloth he will see the Philadelphia QM info and manufacturer info. He is insistent I have sent him some foreign copy junk to cheat him and that he knows what he sent me. He cannot understand why I would send him a more expensive poncho back vs sell it and buy another one. I tried to explain to him that it is the principle of the issue. This was a teaching moment and i was trying to educate him on his stock and return the item that was clearly not what he intended to sell. My honestly has ended up costing me money. At this point I am out the poncho and the money and also have an order to a client that is extremely late due to his ignorance and incompetence. The fact he cannot understand why I would return an item of greater value speaks volumes to his character. I knew exactly who his wholesale supplier was when I saw it and even told him so! I literally have nothing to gain from lying to him about this. I would strongly encourage anyone to avoid doing business with someone of this nature.
