Everyone has different experiences with people and places. This was my first bridal appointment and I was not feeling it. The person who was assisting me kept bringing out an older demographic style. I found a dress that I was into, however it was discontinued and I was only told that when I said that was the only dress I liked. The person helping me didn't really make me feel special nor have a conversation with me. It seemed like I was inconveniencing her. We just didn't hit it off. This first bridal appointment made me nervous for other ones, but it turns out this was the only appointment where I felt this way. I found my dress the first time looking at MA Carr! I went shopping, kind of just looking to see what looks best on my body type (Big boobs, broad shoulders gal). The service was great. I mean, it's a small boutique so you want to feel comfortable! And I did. My brother came with me so they put us in a room in the back, but set up my family up front to see the dresses. The woman helping me was so helpful. . She actually found the dress I ended up buying! It was totally different from what I was trying on and it was one last "why don't you try this" before I left and I ended up falling in love. Now, I am from Buffalo but live in Los Angeles. So the next issue was the distance, but it was no issue at all. When the dress came in, they had no problem keeping it until I was able to fly back (which was months later) and try it on again before I took it home. Ended up buying my dress here! It was the 4th place I went. I was ready to buy two other dresses from two salons. I was so set, I almost cancelled my appointment here. Karen assisted and made sure I tried on everything I hadn't tried before. At first she tried some stunning dresses that were pretty similar to everything else I tried. Some I liked and some I wrote off. Then she pulled out a wildcard dress and I fell in love instantly. This was the only dress I cried from. She knew exactly what she was doing. My sister was looking for her wedding dress during COVID and this is the first (and only!) place that she shopped. I was along to help with dress selection. The place isn't anything super fancy, but it is cute. I really liked the pink lines for the parking spaces. You are required to take your shoes off before going into the back where the dresses are tried on and *during covid* all of the dresses were steamed between clients trying them on. The consultant that worked with my sister (I am so sorry that I didn't get her name!) was absolutely wonderful and really helped make the experience smooth. She took into consideration my sister's needs and pulled dresses that really matched what she was looking for. Things went so well, in fact, that my sister said yes to the dress at the end of the 2 hour appointment. I am looking forward to going back in a few months to pick our bridesmaids dresses. read more

Terrible customer service. They don't help the brides put on the dresses at all, they just throw you in a room with the dress and make you figure it out yourself. Sure they have "reception lighting" but everyone looks better in the dark! Finding a bridesmaids dress is even worse, they just send you into a room where you are left to fend for yourself. All of the dresses are torn to shreds, and it's really awesome trying to find dresses that haven't been put away correctly since the sales people couldn't be bothered to help you. (Also the shower curtain rod that they use as a dressing room curtain holder fell on one of the other bridesmaids heads- at least you'll probably have a great laugh shopping here) I had to order my bridesmaids dress from here as it was the only store that carried the line of dresses needed for the wedding in this area. I was measured as a 10 bust, a 2 waist, and a 10 hip, and told to order the 10 to make sure that it fit. Awesome, I know nothing about bridal sizing so I went with their suggestion. Fast forward 9 months (that's a crazy long time!) and I finally received the dress. It is huge in the hips, bust, waist, butt, everywhere! At least the bride won't have to worry about transportation, cause I can carry her to the wedding in the bust of my gown! There are way better bridal salons to go to in the Buffalo area that actually care about you enjoying your experience. Don't let the gimmicky lighting trick you. read more

My dress had over 30 problems with it and on my wedding it fell apart. Spent an extra 2 grand to alter a dress that was supposed to be custom made.. the alterations were things i asked for at my first appointment but didn't matter because they weren't written down by the girl helping me. read more

I got my wedding dress from here. I came here after I didn't find anything remotely appealing at David's Bridal. I should have just skipped out there because this place was the jack pot. The associate that helps you find your dress is with you for the entire process- finding the dress, ordering, accessorizing etc, which I really liked. They REALLY take the time to figure out exactly what you're looking for. Even when you're like me, who had no idea what you want. And then when you think you do, you get the complete opposite dress than expected. They gave me a list of places to get my dress tailored as well as other lists to help me with my wedding planning. The dress selection was good, service not so much. I chose to have my bridesmaids purchase their dresses there. We didn't get much room or help selecting or trying on dresses. We actually started trying to pin our own dresses on so we could get out faster since we only had a 1 hour slot. We didn't have enough room to accommodate my five bridesmaids, my mom, and I in one room that they made available for us so it was rather crowded. I took my mother in law there and they didn't do anything to make her feel special. This was a big deal for her to buy a fancy dress, and they didn't help her feel like this was also going to be her day to look beautiful and stunning. I was a bridesmaid and went there once and this was my same impression- they need more customer one on one time and better service. read more

I am appalled by the negative reviews here...I had a PHENOMENAL experience with MA Carr, and was treated with respect, professionalism, and genuine concern every time I entered the boutique. Further, as an out of town bride, I was beyond impressed with how flexible MA Carr was with my schedule. They worked around my availability and my visits to town, even going so far as to fit in one last fitting right before my wedding to ensure that everything would be perfect. My dress was gorgeous, and everything that I could have asked for...my seamstress, Jill, even was incredibly accommodating in adding matching straps to my gown (I didn't want a strapless gown, but didn't like many of the non-strapless options). I suppose one could complain their dresses are a bit expensive. However, if you want cheap, go to David's...but I guarantee you won't receive the same level of service (or, likely, the same quality of gown). read more

I had a very bad experience with this place. I am only giving a 2 star rating because the sales person who helped me, Melissa, was very nice. I had found a dress I liked online and this was the only bridal salon in buffalo that carried the line. I took the photo in and they first told me they didn't have that dress so I tried on a bunch of dresses that for one reason or another didn't work out. Finally they told me they found the dress I originally came there for. It was love at first sight. I knew that was the dress for me. Once I "said yes to the dress", Melissa let me know that the owner would come out to take my measurements and will order the dress for me. I knew when she told me the size I would have to order it was going to be to big. She assured me it was correct because "they had to order to my biggest measurement", which was my bust. I hesitantly ordered the larger size. A few days later I called to say I wasn't comfortable with that dress size and knew it would be too big, but they assured me all was correct (I live out of state so when the dress came in I had to wait a few months before I could pick it up and try it on) When I got to the salon to finally try the dress on I was not surprised to find out the dress was HUGE. It had a corset back that was pulled all the way closed and the dress was still falling down. Even the bust was way too big. I was so upset. I felt that I didn't want to give them another penny of my money since I voiced my concerns about the dress a few times and was reassured each time that it would be the correct size. I took the dress that day without having measurements for alterations bc I was going to find someone else to do them, which cost another 250.00 bc they basically had to rebuild the dress to fit me. This was not my only issue with them. I had ordered two bridesmaids dresses for my nieces that lived out of town. That was a mess also. There was some confusion about the measurements and it took a couple weeks to get it all straightened out. At that point it was exactly 4 months till my wedding and no one mentioned that it may take too long to get them in. 10 weeks later I emailed asking when the dresses would be in. I was informed they would be arriving in 3 weeks and if I wanted them to rush the dresses I should have told them and it would have been 50.00 a piece for the rush (which I would have paid if I knew that). I did have 38 emails between us where that could have been mentioned. I subsequently had to pay an extra 63.00 for them to overnight the dresses in order for them to be altered properly. My overall experience was TERRIBLE. I would recommend people to steer clear! Again, only bright spot was Melissa. read more

Thank goodness the marriage is the most important part of the wedding. I shopped here for my wedding dress. At first it was fine although most of their selection is really dated. I came to a trunk show there and found a Waters dress that I chose and put my deposit on, this was in october, right after our engagement. They told me to come back a few months before the wedding as it was too soon to order my dress. Our wedding was in June but since my weight doesn't really fluctuate, I went in in January to get measured and go ahead and order. When I followed up in March, the owner, Maryanne, the owner called me back and left a message on my voicemail freaking our saying that I didn't order it soon enough and that I would have to pay to have it flown in. (this was minutes before she left for a 3 day weekend) I was left to my own devices. When I finally got ahold of her, instead of explaining herself, she read me her return policy! I wasn't trying to back out... she had no concept of the situation and assumed the worst. She was not the one in charge of the sale and had no information about it. I refused to pay the $80 shipping as it was not my fault. (it's not the money it's the principle and that is nothing compared to a $1600 gown) After that debacle, I had to come in for fittings when the gown came in (awkward!). I believe they ordered the wrong size- I tried on a ten since that is the norm of what people carry and they ordered a 2. That is my size but if you are going to alter a dress, wouldn't you want extra material to work with? The caplets that I loved about it and were the reason I bought the dress were skin tight straps. Long story short, the dress was butchered. The seamstress left the seam allowance on each layer instead of trimming it off and when I brought it home and opened the bag, IT FELL APART! I had to have the entire thing re-sewn by my best friend who is an expert seamstress. The owner treated me like complete garbage, the dress is of no future use, to future kids or anyone and I certainly would not recommend them if you like getting treated with respect, like to look classy or appreciate things of fine quality. All said and done all they offered me was to pay for the additional sewing (which my bf did). What an insult. read more

I came here to pick out bridesmaid dresses and try on bridal gowns for myself. The store itself is well-decorated, but cramped. Guests are asked to remove their shoes in the entryway. I was unaware of this practice and had put sandals on that day. Fortunately, one of my girls had a spare pair of socks that I borrowed. My gown fitting went well. The lady assisting me had an excellent sense of what I wanted out of a dress and was able to match me up with a few gowns that I really loved. Unfortunately, most dresses at the shop were out of my budget, but it gave me a better sense of what I want in a dress. I enjoyed this portion of the visit. The bridesmaid dress try-on was much less fun. All of the dresses are in a small side room with only two fitting rooms. My girls, mom, and I had to wait a long time to try on dresses. That part didn't bother us; we recognized that there was limited space. However, we weren't done trying on dresses when a sales representative came over and began to rush us along, saying that another bridal party needed the rooms. We agreed to squeeze into one room and let them have the other one, but the sales rep was very brusque and pressured us out of the fitting room so the other, larger party could use both rooms. She was very attentive to their needs, but had never once come over and given us the same attention. It made me feel very stressed and irritated. Choosing dresses has already been a stressful decision for me and feeling harried made me feel anxious and overwhelmed. I think she sensed this, because she came over and was sweet to us after that, but the damage had already been done. Ultimately, I won't be purchasing any of my party's dresses from this shop. But our visit was overall enjoyable and productive. I recommend coming on a weekday if your schedule allows it, as I'm sure that most of my issues with the visit could have been avoided if I didn't come in on a busy Saturday. ok....................yes, I am a dude. But I did go here and I am writing a review from a males perspective. I was "dragged here" by my lovely fiance who decided it would be a good idea to have me help pick out my daughters flower girl dress for our wedding. Knowing my opinion on the matter would be irrelevant I "played the game" and went. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by a employee and asked about a reservation which I highly suggest you make before showing up. You are asked to take your shoes off right away as they do not want all the white dressed destroyed which is understandable. Men.......We are not allowed past the front area. I wonder what goes on back there?? is it like that movie brides maids or war......I forget the exact movie. I am assuming women are in their unmentionables so I was perfectly fine with waiting up front. The lovely employee provided me with about 10 different magazines to read while I waited which were actually pretty good, not just full of bride junk. My daughter happily ran up front in her dresses to show me with a smile ear to ear which was the cutest thing in the world she felt like a real princess. After they selected the dress M.A. Carr herself came out to introduce herself to me and sit down to talk about the dress. Being that the wedding is a few months away she gave us her expert advise on what size color, spec, etc. we should do in case my daughter has a growth spurt between now and then. Overall very happy and quite impressed with the service and attention to detail. The place is way too girly inside though.........which is to be expected. Terrible. Terrible!! Worst in customer service. They convinced all the girls to order dresses significantly larger than normal saying that the dressmaker ran small - All the girls questioned the size being suggested - we all argued, but apparently not enough. Well, the dressmaker runs exactly true to size, so the dresses are all huge! They ordered 12's instead of 6's, and then when I called to ask what they could/would do, I was told that it was our fault. I was told that I signed paperwork relieving them of any responsibility - I never signed a thing! I kept asking what they were going to do...the manager hung up on me. The manager - the one who is supposed to try to fix the problem - the one who should care that they are in the business of weddings! My sister could fit two of herself in her dress, the tailor can't fix that...and M.A. Carr hung up on me. If you care at all about your wedding - do not go here!!!!! read more

Seems like people only rate MA Carr when they are displeased. I ordered a bridesmaid dress from here last year and my friend purchased her gown here also. The service was excellent, measurements were taken correctly, and we never felt pressured or pushed aside. I've talked to many people who have gone to MA Carr and they have all been very pleased. I've had a wonderful experience with MA Carr so far. I have to disagree with the other girls commenting. The statement that they throw brides in a room and make you figure it out is false. While they do have a different system than other bridal salons, that is simply not true. They play off what you are comfortable with. My sales associate brought me to my room and brought in dresses and then explained that she could either wait outside or stay in and help me. She also suggested having my sister come in and help if I preferred that. For the more modest, I thought this was very appropriate since some women aren't comfortable being nude in front of strangers. It was by no means a sign of laziness but deference to personal preference. I didn't mind and my girl stayed in the room with me and helped me put on every dress. The dresses here are gorgeous (definitely not outdated) and I would know, because I tried on 24 other dresses at other salons before finding mine at MA Carr. I really like the system here. Instead of sending the bride and her family/friends off searching for dresses (which hardly ever look the same on a hanger as on), they consult with each bride and then select gowns for you. Having experienced both, I defintely preferred this system, Even though my sisters and mom know me better than anyone, none of the dresses we picked for me ever looked as good as the ones that were selected for me. I would have purchased almost every dress she selected for me. These ladies know what they are doing. After we purchased my dress, my sisters and I started browsing through the bridesmaids dresses and found a bunch we wanted to see on. All the dressing rooms were being used at the time, but my sales associate told us that if we didn't mind waiting a couple minutes, she'd put us in a dressing room between appointments. It was so nice of her to rush and clear out the changing room and accomodate us. This is not to say she didn't care about the next bride. She made it very clear we only had about 15-20 minutes, which was completely understandable, since I had already used up my appointment time. We're going back to look at bridesmaids dresses in a few weeks, and I haven't dealt with the fitting of the dress yet, but I know a few other brides who bought their dresses here and had nothing but wonderful things to say. That's why I went there to begin with. The staff was warm, welcoming and professional. I can't wait to go back from bridesmaids dresses (especially since the girls will all get a discount there) - not to mention I also get dicounts on accessories and gift certificates to local vendors for purchasing there. All around great experience. And one last word - I think its silly that another commenter critiqued them for defending themselves and explaining their side of a bad critique, if it was my business reputation on the line, I would too. M A Carr is very professional and nice inside. This is not a super fancy fancy where you are handed a glass of champagne and made to feel like a queen, but it is 100x better than David's Bridal, if that helps. They had an average size selection to choose from and the trying and fitting was enjoyable. The attendants are very helpful and able to bring you choices based on your dream dress you describe. They are very knowledgeable about sizing, trust them and do NOT be offended. They know how each dress runs, get the dress that fits you perfectly! read more

We felt like cattle. Maybe Sunday is a bad day to make an appointment but, when we arrived there were no more than six parties trying to "register" with their consultant. We were all jammed into the front room where people were literally tripping over each other. Then, instead of a taking us to a private area, we were in with two other families trying on gowns. The whole experience was distracting. Brides should be made to feel special - not like they're in a department store trying on Prom dresses. The consultant was attentive enough but the atmosphere leaves a great deal to be desired. Either don't book so many appointments at once or redesign your viewing rooms. read more

Terrible experience! I always try to support local businesses...they were awful. They did not help my sister with getting her dress on. They told my mother and I that there just was not enough room for us to go back and help her in the dressing room. However I sent my mom back anyways and the dressing room was huge and could have had all of us back there. The people were rude. My sister left in tears after trying on only ONE dress...this was her first experience. I have to say that I felt like we were in the scene from Pretty Woman. We may not have been dressed to the nines but they treated us like garbage! And to quote Pretty Woman..."Big Mistake!!" My sister found her dress later that day. Everyone experiences things differently and I simply did not have a pleasant experience at MA Carr. It was extremely overwhelming from the moment I walked in the door. Granted, it was a busy Saturday afternoon and I let that go initially. The back of the store where the dressing rooms are is incredibly small where 3 brides at a time and all of their family members are trying on dress after dress and being excited over their experience. I was very uncomfortable with having so many people in one small area, especially considering several of the dresses did not fit me correctly. I genuinely believe that they want people to have the best experience possible but they do not have the space to make that happen. I got my wedding and bridesmaids dresses from M A Carr. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with every visit. When trying on dresses, I appreciated that I was able to get into the dress behind a curtain, then have help zipping it up. It made for a comfortable experience. When my dress came in, we noticed some of the buttons were a different shade of white; they took care of this issue quickly and made sure to double check for any other flaws. Woman was very nice, pulled 2 dresses for me that were exactly the same and not really at all what I wanted. If you have boobs make sure you bring a strapless bra or the bra you plan on wearing for your wedding, unlike David's bridal which is obvioisly much larger, m.a. carr doesnt provide an undergarment to try the dress on with. It was ok, I wasn't blown away, as a plus size bride, with the options given to me I wasnt motivated to return. read more

When I went to try on wedding dresses here I did not feel welcome at all. Well for one, I don't understand the whole taking off your shoes while the sales assistants kept theirs on. And I seen them going in and out of the back door to go outside so I don't get it. At first I thought they'd be ok since they were a business in my hometown but after ordering bridesmaid dresses with them they didn't give me updates on where the dresses were or when to expect them...they came with less than 2 weeks before the wedding two of my four bridesmaids dresses were way too big on them and one was too small which they had to order more fabric for and did a horrible job tailoring up until the day before the wedding charging $200 for alterations almost as much as the dress cost! The dress still didn't fit her and the seams were unraveling...also if they know you're taking your dress to another tailor for alteration they will get nasty with you...they order up a size for my bridesmaid on purpose I believe to try and make money on alterations! Since my bridesmaids told them they are normally a size smaller...when you try calling there you almost always get their voicemail and when you go in to visit its always chaotic and cluttered! You don't get personalized service as they are always running around like they're so busy! Would not return after all the trouble they put my bridesmaids and I through! Ugh! read more

I went and got measured and fitted for a bridesmaids dress, they took exact measurements and then ordered a dress size I thought based on those measurements. I was measured in the same dress brand In a size two sizes below at another bridal shop. I called to notify The shop about the large difference in sizes for the same brand and they igorned their error and continued to stand by their mistake! Now I am stuck trying to find someone to do expensive alterations on an already expensive dress!! Would recommend going to a shop who has your best interest and wants to actually help you not cause you more stress and money. Oh also the dresses came in late so even less time to find someone for alterations! read more

Avoid this store at all costs. My daughter was a bridesmaid and the bride cancelled the wedding. Only half the bridesmaid had paid for their dresses. The store did not place the order before the wedding was cancelled but refuse to refund the money to the girls that tried to do the right thing and paid for their dresses up front. Store didn't spend a dime but is keeping the girl's money. Poor customer service especially for a bridal store that depends on word of mouth. read more

The girls at MA Carr have been amazing to me so far (getting married june 2015). Im in a long engagement, so while it wasn't completely practical to plan everything in the wedding early on, I was excited and wanted to waste no time finding the perfect dress. I'm about an hour from the bridal shop so, firstly, all of the workers were really kind and understanding of my not being able to come in right away when the dress and accessories I finally ordered arrived. I chose a dress at my first appointment and immediately had dress regret (I was so overwhelmed with great choices that I felt like I had picked one too soon!). I called the next business day and the girls assured me that, because the dress had not been officially ordered they would be more than happy to have me come back in and put that down payment towards a different dress (I only put 25% down initially, not the 50% required for the dress to be put into production). Everyone was so patient with me trying to be absolutely positive of the dress the second time around that I felt a lot less guilty about being one of 'those' brides. They even had a dress flown in for me to try on! After having two separate appointments with them, they were able to suggest a designer that had everything I was looking for and was having a trunk show soon. I went to the trunk show and immediately found the dress. I ordered it on the spot, received it earlier than expected and it fit perfectly. Everything went so well that I bought my veil and accessories there, too. I'm so happy with the helpfulness and positivity at MA Carr, and I didn't really find that combined with such a large selection of dresses at any other bridal shop. read more

I had gone to another bridal boutique and had found a dress that I really liked but didnt "love". I woke up one day a few weeks afterwards and decided to drop by here with my mother just to browse. We didnt have an appointment but they were very accomodating and patient. I had explained what type of dress I wanted and the details I would like in my dress and the woman who helped me brought in 3 dresses and after the 3rd she said "let me get one more". I tried it on and cried. I never thought I'd be the type to cry when I found "the dress" but i did and my experience was so positive. The woman who helped me was so patient ams allowed me to walk around/look from all angles and just be in the dress for as long as I needed. The dresses here are extremely unique and I am very happy I decided to stop in on a whim. I put a down payment on the dress and cannot wait until ot comes in in a few months! read more

We took the measurements that she PROVIDED to us and compared them to the designers' size chart. When an out of town bridesmaid calls in her measurements, we have no other way to determine her size other than basing it off of the measurements she calls into us. This designer's size chart is posted online, therefore Tracy, you can compare it to the measurements you called in and see exactly how we came up with the size that was ordered. You can also see for yourself that if those measurements were correct, according to the size chart, there is no reason why the dress should be too big on you. I tried several times to explain this to you on the phone, but I couldn't get a word in edge wise. M.A. Carr is an awful business! I had a perfectly fine experience picking out a dress, but everything that happened since that day was extremely disappointing. First: the fitting. I'm 5'1", 105 lbs, and wear a 0-00 in clothes. When they took my measurements, they told me I should order a size 6! I was very skeptical, and asked to order a size 4. The girl I was working with raised her eyebrows and made a point of writing down on the order that I had refused to go with her recommendation. Well, the dress came in and it was still huge! We are now looking at an expensive alterations bill, which would have been a lot less if I had just ordered my regular size. Second: the bridesmaids dresses. Thanks to their sizing guidelines, which they had repeatedly insisted were correct, my bridesmaids dresses are also way too big and need alternations. No surprise there. The bridesmaids dresses also took FOREVER to come in. I had one of my out-of-town bridesmaids order hers at a location in her own city, and I ordered two dresses for my other bridesmaids from M.A. Carr. She placed her order only a few days before I ordered the other two, and her dress came in a WHOLE MONTH sooner than the dresses that came in from M.A. Carr (and hers fit fine, I should add). This shouldn't have been the case since all of the dresses were coming from the same designer. Yikes!! Those reviews are harsh! I gave 4 stars only because i'm not far into the process and don't want to get too ahead of myself here! WIth having said that so far so good!! I'm an out of town bride who will be placing her order tomorrow. When I went in to try on dresses I had absolutly NO idea what I wanted!! My bridal consultant was patient, professional and so helpful!!! She helped me every step of the way and made great suggestions! I'm a super laid back bride and let's face it we go to professionals for a reason, because they know what they're doing and this is very much the case at MA CARR. As I previously mentioned i'm an out of town bride and tomorrow is their trunk show which means they're not allowed to book appointments but they squeezed me in at the end of the day for a fitting to ensure my dress is ordered in time for my May wedding! And actually the day I tried on dresses they weren't very busy so 2 bridal consultants helped me! They were amazing!! My Mom insisted I tried on every dress twice, and asked the most ridiculous questions and they were so patient and kind to her!!! In the salon there are so many notes/cards/etc just thanking them and saying how amazing they are. I'm 100% confidant with my decision to go with MA Carr!!! read more
