    Cornflake French Toast
    Y C.

I stayed at the hotel and decided to try the restaurant for breakfast. It has a huge welcoming area before you get seated at your table. Very open space with lots of light. It had its fall decor still on the tables and around the restaurant. I ordered a latte and the lak avocado toast with a side of scrambled eggs which was an extra cost. Also ordered the cornflake French toast. Food was delicious and Anna who was our waitress was outstanding. The only little flaw was that the table was not balanced and it kept moving every time I tried to cut into the food. Luckily nothing was spilled. It still didn't take away from the delicious food. There is a free parking garage adjacent to hotel. Definitely recommend.

This is a fun place to go with a group or for a date night. It is very close to Merriweather so you could even pregame or have dinner then walk to the concert. It has very pretty views of the lake and they have yummy drinks and food. You can make reservations.

Came to LAK Columbia for their 4th of July buffet and it was fantastic! The food was amazing, everything was fresh and flavorful, and the ice cream was definitely the highlight. We also had front-row seats for the fireworks, which made the night even more special. The atmosphere was fun and festive, and the staff did a great job keeping everything running smoothly. I'll definitely be back next year!

A lakeside contemporary eatery, lāk offers fresh ingredients prepared with care. We enjoyed their breakfast, and I recommend the Crab Benedict and Corn Flake French toast. In addition to wonderful food, the service at lāk was spot on. Anna was gracious, friendly and helpful. Cheers!

This hidden gem is definitely worth a try. The food was amazing, the service was excellent due to the size of our group. We were able to sit on the balcony and the view is so stunning. I can't wait go back!

We came here for Mother's Day and having been to this area quite often, it was nice to see something a little more updated! Open kitchen and tall ceilings made the whole place feel big and spacious. The outdoor scenery was also so beautiful being by the lakefront. I would say the only thing that took away from the ambiance was that the live violinist and cellist played mostly pop covers, and it felt distracting and maybe even inappropriate for a nicer, upscale restaurant where classical music might have been more soothing and more suited for the ambiance. The food was excellent! I thought everything was pretty tasty but my own dish, the salmon, seemed to be a bit underseasoned and a little underwhelming, as it was relying on the salsa on top to give it some flavor. The pork loin was my favorite! The desserts were superb, the bread pudding was a special for Mother's Day but it should be a regular staple! The tiramisu was amazing too! Overall a really nice place for a special occasion but a bit pricy.

We had a great experience for New Year! We came here as part of the NYE package offered by the Marriott Lakehouse hotel. This review is for lake. The dinner menu for our package was pre-fixe, which included beverages and champagne. We each got appetizers, an entree, and a dessert. There was a nice selection that included fish, steak, chicken options and more. The servings were very generous. And the flavor was better than expected. The breakfast menu was also pretty full. With the package we could order anything off the menu. Food was good. Our waitress (same lady for both meals) was lovely and attentive! The stay at the hotel was pretty good, but not without it's flaws. But overall we got a great deal, thanks to the meals at lak.

We opted to sit outside on the deck so we had nice views of the lak(e). The drinks, appetizers and entrées were amazing. It was really nice. Our waiter was helpful with making recommendations and everything he suggested was AMAZING!

    Salmon entree w/saffron rice
    Jacqueline A.

Heidi provided us with excellent service. The salmon w/saffron rice was OK overall, but I probably would not order it again. It reminded me of something with a Tex Mex influence due to the black bean topping and seasoning in the bottom of the rice. The seafood pappardelle was apparently delicious and my beet and burrata salad was very refreshing. We enjoyed our cocktails as well. I'd imagine this is an ideal location for a nice dinner date or brunch. I would return to try other menu options.

Lak Restaurant Review: It is situated in the Merriweather Hotel with a view of Lake Kittamunqundi. If you enter through the entrance of the hotel you will be greeted with a beautiful Christmas tree in the center of the lobby. You will feel like you are checking into a ski chalet in the mountains. The restaurant is nothing short of fine dining upon appearance. Now aside from the appearance service is where the fine dining stars start falling off for me. We checked in for 6pm reservation on a Friday and it was only one other table seated. The staff stood around the kitchen just twiddling their thumbs and just staring at us while we were waiting for our waitress. She comes over and stood over waiting for us to speak to her. Couldn't find her after she gave us our meal. The menu is seasonal. In the summer there was a completely different menu. I ordered crab cake entrees for the girls and myself and David had the short ribs. We also ordered the baked mac and cheese, fries, tatter tots, and salad. The waitress looked ask me was I sure I wanted to order three crab cake entrees for the kids (my kids eat off the adult menu). Why ask us that? The short ribs and cream potatoes were delicious. The meat was tender and the potatoes were savory. The crab cake entree came with coleslaw and watercress salad. The coleslaw slaw was bland but the watercress was seasoned well (light, citrusy, and refreshing). It was good but for $45 an entree we were still hungry. We also ordered shareable sides of baked Mac n cheese and fries. The kids said was not good and the fries were burnt. My lychee martini tasted like a lemon drop martini. Overall, if you are going for an anniversary dinner, business dinner, or looking for a place with a nice ambiance I would recommend. They need to improve in their customer service.

Steak frites, fries taken off plate
    Julie D.

Horrible service. Horrible food. Extremely overpriced for what they serve. I LITERALLY had to spit food out that I already chewed because I couldn't shallow it. Steak frites on the online menu said it came with a sauce and green beans and fries. It came with ketchup and fries. Apparently menu has not been updated yet. Did not refill our water once even though our cups were almost empty but refilled and checked on the table behind us multiple times. Food took over 20 mins and didn't once stop by to say sorry for the wait or to check on us. Plate was served with red "juice" blood from the steak on the plate. Worst meal I've had in a long time. McDonalds is better.

Came for restaurant week- great menu offerings Beautiful inside of restaurant and great views of the lake. Was a bit windy outside so I decided on inside dining but sat close to the patio windows. Lobster bisque- there were very few actual pieces of lobster. Texture was smooth, liked it overall Charred Caesar salad- enjoyable, better than a traditional Caesar salad Chicken Milanese- chicken crispy, lemon caper sauce wasn't overpowering (I'm not typically a lemon sauce fan), risotto cooked well Fruit cheesecake- was ok, didn't like the crust compared to a traditional cheesecake crust, enjoyed the fruit on top

The truffle popcorn was excellent, our child enjoyed the shrimp and fries, and the fresh tuna appetizer was flavorful, although overly sauced. Unfortunately, the scallops with risotto were unacceptable. Both entrees had a strong ammonia-like taste from the first bite, which was immediately noticeable to both of us. We were unable to get much attention from our server due to how busy the restaurant was, but the dishes were left mostly untouched for a reason. For a $40 entrée, we expected much better quality and execution. Sadly, The Food Market did not deliver.

Tip: pack your patience…read more I've been wanting to try Cafe Columbia since I heard they have the option to add ice cream to the crepe. Ice cream with crepes are one of my favorite type of crepes, and that's exactly what I ordered; a crepe with ice cream. I walked in and the cafe was bustling with people enjoying their meal, and the workers preparing meals. It was a full house, however, I was able to grab a table for two. French Toast Crepe: this simple yet tasty crepe fit the bill. It had cinnamon flavor with whipped cream and I opted for a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It didn't come with fruit which I will add next time (yes, there will be a next time). Belgium Waffle: another simple item yet the batter was better than I expected. It didn't come with toppings. It came with a lite dusting of powdered sugar and came with room temperature butter. Chai Latte: this was good on the first sip. It seemed watered down and I would have preferred more flavor. Then again, I'm not a regular drinker of chai latte, and my daughter seemed to enjoy it. So don't count this out. When we ordered the staff gave us a disclaimer the crepe would take about 25 minutes. I didn't mind at the time. It took longer than that; however, I could see the workers constantly working on preparing meals so it didn't bother me. We got the waffle about 25 minutes later so we decided to share both the waffle and crepe. The crepe came out about 20 minutes later. The cafe has a well thought out layout. It has tables on each side, a reading area, and an area with complimentary water next to the coffee/tea station. The little station has water, cups, sugar, napkins and creamer (not pictured because it was packed and constantly occupied). On the other side you'll find more tables, the restrooms, and an ostracized nook that had someone in there occupying the chairs for what seemed like quiet time. Customer service is good. Parking is free in a huge parking lot for the business building. The cafe is located at the front of a shared business building. The menu has a variety of waffles with and without fruit options; crepes made either savory or sweet; and coffee drink options. There is an ice cream bar for scoops of ice cream or milkshakes; and lastly some fruit cups. Overall, I enjoyed the cafe and plan to add it to my list of favorites.

Eggspectation - Merriweather District…read more My first visit to Eggspectation and it made a strong first impression. Located in the ever-growing Merriweather District, parking can be a bit of a mixed bag. There's a nearby surface lot that fills up quickly, but a larger parking garage within easy walking distance that makes things manageable--and a bonus for EV drivers, with multiple charging stations that are available. Just plan ahead, especially on weekends or when events are happening at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The space itself is modern and thoughtfully designed. One side of the dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and offers peaceful views of Symphony Woods--a perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal or a little people-watching. There's also a covered outdoor patio that looks especially appealing for warmer days. Service during our lunch visit was excellent. Ethan struck that ideal balance--friendly, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. He handled menu questions with ease and was happy to make a few substitutions without hesitation. A seasonal spring menu is currently available, but the full menu being offered all day is a nice plus. We started with the Ginger Zinger--refreshing with just the right amount of zing. I went with the veggie omelette, customized to my liking, and it delivered: perfectly cooked and packed with fresh mushrooms, spinach, and asparagus. The Lyonnaise potatoes were flavorful, and the lightly dressed salad rounded out the plate nicely. My friends both ordered the Eggspectation breakfast sandwich, stacked high with thick-cut bacon and presented beautifully. Portions across the board were generous--we expected leftovers, but between the good food and even better conversation, most plates were nearly cleared. Prices lean toward the moderately expensive side, but that's fairly standard for this area--and the quality justifies it. If you're looking for a quieter experience, weekdays are your best bet. It's also a great spot to unwind after a walk around the nearby lakes or wooded paths. While there is ongoing construction in the area, the restaurant itself is well insulated from the noise. Overall, a very solid first visit. I'd gladly return to explore more of the menu.

We ordered food and drinks about 10 minutes later. Food came relatively quickly, but drinks took 30+ minutes, not an exaggeration. The waitress was super friendly and apologetic, but you could tell everyone who worked there was stressed. Food should never come before drinks, but it's next level when you're done your food before they arrive. Don't take reservations if it's going to be a free for all and you can't honor them. Just roll with a first come, first serve policy. Also, they need a manager/floor general on concert nights. Too much chaos in a place trying to exemplify "chill," but someone overseeing the floor at a high level could've kept things moving and assisted overburdened wait staff. Finally, move the host stand to a better location. It's in a super awkward spot, so a lot of folks are forced wait in tight quarters right next to people who are seated. Great concept, but needs some upgrades in management and logistics, especially on concert nights. Will I go again? Maybe, but with tempered expectations. Hopefully they'll staff up and get things corrected.

I waited in line with Child #1 and Child #2 to make our order and fortunately, a staffer saw us looking for a table and waved us over to an area that they were cleaning as another party of three stood up. It's worth noting that while there are a few small 2-top and 4-top tables, most of the space is jam-packed where your table will butt right up against a different party. It adds a bit to the convivial experience, but it does also mean a larger group may have to split up. Got some brunch, and Child #2 got a kids' meal of pancakes with bacon. Seemed pretty standard. I love a good plate of chicken and waffles so I sprang for that. The chicken was decently seasoned but the waffles were underwhelming. Child #1 got The berry cheesecake french toast and loved it. I tasted a bite and it was not bad. There is an area with condiments that customers can just grab (there is no table-side service, so this makes sense), including a place to grab your own water. Child #1 ordered an orange juice, which we both tasted and it was definitely fermented (unpleasant). When I brought it up to the staff behind the counter, it was "oh, that's too bad" with no offer to remedy it. We bought a bottled one from their fridge, which was better. I got a mango peach lemonade, which was sweet but otherwise very nice. Child #2's meal came with a juice box. We were meeting up with my wife just a few minutes later, so I ordered her an iced coffee and a cubano sandwich. To the barista's credit, they said "hey, just wave me down when you're about finished eating and I'll make it fresh for you to go." Nice. The cubano was okay - it came on what seemed like white bread, rather than a sturdier ciabatta or sub roll that can be pressed (like a cubano normally is) so my wife found it to be okay at best. Overall, the experience didn't blow me away, but there were some decent items and clearly folks in the know come here often so maybe we just had a down day. If I come back, I think I'll try any of the Korean fusion dishes (it is in Ellicott City, after all).

After reading some reviews of Blackwall, I was concerned about parking and the service. But our…read moregranddaughter wanted to celebrate her birthday there so Blackwall it was. It turned out there is a large, free, public parking lot less than half a block from the restaurant. Our reservations were for 3:00 which worked out perfectly. We missed the buffet crowd before us and the dinner crowd after. We checked in at the front desk and were lead to our booth, which was tucked away in a corner and so cozy and comfortable. Our waitress, Lori, came by to check on us and to see if we needed anything. She was wonderful our whole dining experience. The rest of our party soon arrived and we ordered drinks and some appetizers. When our granddaughter, Ashley, ordered an alcoholic drink our waitress carded her. While checking the ID the waitress' face lit up and she smiled as she realized it was a few days past Ashley's 21st birthday. For appetizers we ordered fried green tomatoes, fried lobster bites, and duck oil fries. It wasn't long before every bit of the appetizers were eaten. For our meals I ordered crab soup and an entree salad, Our daughter ordered onion soup and a hamburger. For the rest of our party there was another hamburgers ordered, a crab cake, a seafood dish, and a fried chicken sandwich. One down side to the meal was my crab soup was awful. It tasted like tomato juice with frozen vegetables and some crabmeat. (Awful crab soup? This is Maryland, it should be better than that.) I passed it down to Richard. My salad was very good, nothing outstanding, but fresh enough and quite generous. Everyone else was totally enjoying their food. Ashley only ate about half of her seafood stew, but since she had eaten over half of the lobster bites, that was not surprising. For dessert daughter ordered cheese cake to carryout. Ashley ordered some fancy piece of cake. Of course it came with Happy Birthday written in frosting across the bottom of dish. We had had requested not a big birthday fuss so that was perfect. All in all it was a nice birthday lunch. I think arriving mid day, having Lori for our waitress, and everyone if good spirits made it perfect. I would definitely be happy to go back again, especially if we could get a cozy booth with Lori as our waitress.

The interior is beautifully decorated, golds and greens with gorgeous lighting & a fireplace. We were greeted by Laurie who seemed to be both host and server! She was really sweet and super personable. The food was amazing. I loved my chicken Marsala, the chicken was cooked perfectly. The fries were delicious, the extra crispy kind that you can't find many places! The cream of crab was so good, I don't like when there are chunks of onion in it and this one was smooth and thick. The steak was awesome and so was the whipped feta! The wine flight was a nice touch, they have a ton of wines and cocktails for everyone else (also a full bar)! For my birthday the chef prepared a berry sorbet with candles! It was the best sorbet I've ever tasted and I wish I could have more now! The prices were very reasonable and they do happy hours all day on certain weekdays! We will for sure be back!
