I've been to the Lyttleton Arms numerous times and always had an enjoyable night.so decided to go somewhere out of the way with a friend for some post Christmas lunch. We were welcomed in which was lovely and seated at our table. Not sure what has changed, but it wasn't a positive experience from start to finish. The service was poor, we waited ages to be served, we waited a long time for food. Once the food arrived we were shocked at the portion size for the price we were going to pay. I had to ask for our order to be taken more than once as the waitress had forgotten to come back to us, we complained about the level of service several times and nothing improved due to being short of staff. The maitre'd was of no value in resolving the issues raised and appeared inexperienced in how to deal with a complaint. Really disappointing as i love coming here for the drinks. The only positive thing were actually the drinks they were lovely and arrived promptly. They even gave us hot water with fresh mint leaves for mint tea. Its a shame to say but i wouldn't recommend this place for food. I don't think this is a one off either as after speaking to my friend, she also experienced the same with poor service before! Where to start with this fabulous place!? A quiet little hamlet just on the outskirts of the Birmingham Orbital, off the very busy main road, its a little gem! Hidden away, out of site, is a perfectly built picturesque wooden building. Theres a large outdoor area for those summer nights, which would feel perfect sat with an alcoholic (or non-alcoholic if you're driving) beverage watching the night drawn in. Walking in to this building you have an open fireplace and notice the modern rustic look that this place offers. Very wooden but perfectly formed! Theres a large bar area and sitting area for those indoor cosy nights and a wonderful large restaurant with ornaments and items to wonder and amaze you! They have a very swish atmosphere here, ideal for those fancy nights out or a off the cuff visit. Now the food - if you can actually choose something of this amazing menu quickly then you must have been before! Theres so many delicious options to choose from, all within reasonable price ranges. I opted for the Bury Black Pudding Potato Cake to start, served with a poached egg, rocket, spinach and hollandaise sauce. Its tasted unbelievably great - see the pic to have a look! This really filled me so I was glad to have opted for the Sticky, Crispy Duck for my main. Now this was heavenly! Doesn't sound like much but presented and served on the plate to the highest standards you'd expect in a michelin restaurant - the picture doesn't do it justice! Now the all important price, for two people, starters, mains and drinks at £45 - really reasonable for everything you get! Now if you fancy a little trip away from Birmingham to the countryside I would highly recommend you call in for some food! And after indulging yourself, go for a walk at one of the many country parks nearby too! Add this to your list of places to visit in 2015! This is one of the best pubs I've ever visited, all the best one seem to be outside of the city it seems. Though difficult to get too all efforts are worth while before you even get in (if the weather permits) to a really simple but nice beer garden over looking the car park, (the place gets so busy there is an expanded car park too now) The interior is big and homely. You are greeted by a giant fireplace you can sit around near the door. The bar is stocked with premium beers and spirits watched with premium prices to boot. When your in a place like this you don't mind the prices, the whole interior is brand new, a fire a few years ago destroyed the whole place and the new owners built it from the ground up and it shows. The warm wood decor lends its self to the rustic menu available. The sticky beef, Chinese leaf, coriander, carrots and mooli stand out in the leaf menu as one of my favourites. The food stands at around £10 per dish and everything i have tried has been amazing and well prepared. This place gets insanely busy so always book ahead on an evening (01562 882 213). read more

My wife was familiar with this restaurant so we stopped in. We couldn't eat outside as the wasps were very aggressive. The restaurant has been remodeled and was very nice looking. The bartender was very helpful. We sat in the bar and I needed to ask to have the table wiped down as it was sticky. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of several dishes we wanted to order. Once the food arrived it was pretty good. No one checked to see how we were doing or if the food was satisfactory. The WC was very dirty and could use a deep clean. Three stars for ok service, ok food, and dirty bathroom. read more

This pub restaurant - which is what we a call gastro restaurant I believe? - has good reputation. It was recommended to me a long time ago by my boyfriend and we finally called in there after a busy Friday at Ludlow Food Festival. Located on the edge of Birmingham in the Stourbridge area, it looks like a country pub but is close to town. We enter into a decent sized car park which is almost full after work time on a Friday and I immediately feel this is a popular place as the sizable beer garden is full. It's a warm day so I hope that means inside the place is mostly empty as I am starving! We managed to easily get a table although clearly they are booked up for dinner later as we are given a 2 hour window. It's Friday and fish and chips is my tradition and a place like this is sure to offer that. It does and in plenty of option but I go with the usual battered fish and chip. the fish is huge but once I cut through, it seems a little overcooked with not much underneath. The chips are a little dry but the mushy peas are excellent and they have fabulous bottle of ketchup! It's a little modern to my taste and what I expected but very clean, tidy and with a varied clientele. read more

This was a very easy four star. Lyttelton Arms is almost certainly one of the best pubs i have been to in England. Six of us had driven here from Wolverhampton. As you enter, you encounter a huge fireplace ... and you look at the immensely big dining hall, with the bar to your right. This isn't one of the common-place pubs of the country which are just good for watching EPL games with a beer in hand. In fact, watching football might not be too much fun here ... as they do not allow team jerseys, shorts and so on. This makes it more of a restaurant than merely a pub. We ordered some Italian red wine ... one of the best red wines i have tasted in some time. The food was good, and the quantity was significant. I ordered fish and chips ... fresh fish, not to oily ... thought the accompanying mushy peas weren't mushy enough. We also ordered some stone-baked pizza, greek salad starters and baked cheese, all of which were judged to be good by my friends. They seemed to be a bit understaffed. The only negative aspect of this place was that the servers fumbled quite often ... we didn't get water in time ... we got fries even though they had been specifically instructed not to bring them, and so on. The service was not upto the standards i had come to expect in London. But at 58 pounds for a full lunch for 6 people, i am not complaining :) read more

Been here quite a few times on a Thursday. This is a very busy pub/bar usually filled with a good mix of people and a lot of divorcee's it seems which always makes me laugh. I have eaten a couple times here and the food is always of a decent gastropub quality. My only problem is that I always seem to end up with the flat beer when I use the bar on the bottom floor?! read more

Five of us went in early March for Lunch. We opted for the fixed price menu. When we ordered we were told that the vegetarian choice was unavailable so our veggie had to order fish which she can manage at a push. Also as we had a young child with us, we asked for a small portion of pasta but were told this was not possible as we would have to order a full portion for a toddler. We did not bother and shared our main courses. The starter of so called grilled sardines were not grilled and were served rather limp and lukewarm. The starters arrived before the drinks that were ordered when we were seated. The steaks for main course were fair. The veggies fishcake was large but flavourless. We skipped dessert but ordered coffee which when it arrived came with the bill because the waitress was going home. The following day the veggie had what we believe may have been food poisoning from the fishcake. This was our second visit to the Lyttleton Arms, and that one had not been all that happy as we had sent back one dish as it smelt bad. The ambience and presentation of the premises is lovely, its a pity about the food. We shall not return even though we live locally. read more

Little gem of a place, situated in an affluent area but by no means snobby. Very relaxed but a quality place to unwind or dine out. Varied menu available with daily specials all excellently executed with flair and taste. This is a place to soak up the ambiance and enjoy the quality of just a relaxing drink or an exquisite bite to eat. read more

Really do not rate this place at all! I dined there a few evenings ago with friends. It wasn't particularly busy, however we had to wait over an hour for our table! Only one member of staff in the whole restaurant, it's very very poorly managed! The food was certainly not worth the wait! Bland and over priced. All our dishes were sent back to the kitchen and then we paid for our drinks and left! Very dissapointing because infact it really is a beautiful, no, a stunning venue. They should sack the management and sack the chef! read more

What a shame Lovely place & lovely food but service not so Good. This was our first visit & we arrived at about 5.20. There were only a few people in there, so not busy when we arrived. We were seated straight away but we waited so long for someone to take our order I had to go over & break up a little group of chatting staff & remind them we were waiting. The first course took so long to arrive, we had to ask how much longer it was going to be, It eventually arrived but all four starters were cold!!, They had obviously been made & not bought out straight away because the bread with the mushrooms was soggy. They were all remade & replaced, but again took so long to arrive, we almost gave up & left. After reminding the waitress, they arrived & were fresh & lovely. Then the mains arrived quite quickly, but again the food was cold. We had not got time to wait again so we just ate the food & Left. I will say the food we had was delicious & very well presented.. I had the gammon which was lovely but I could not eat the cold fried eggs. So we wasted a lot of food. Would have been tempted to go again, but after reading other reviews, it seems to be an ongoing problem. read more
