My most recent visit was for a light lunch with a colleague, so we each had a pint of Marston's Burton Bitter, and we had a crab and prawn sandwich and a Parma ham, and mozzarella sandwich, sharing a bow of chips between us. It came with smoked beef-dripping roasted potatoes, honey-glazed carrots and parsnips, seasonal greens, Yorkshire pudding & bottomless gravy. This was a great roast, or rather, a proper Sunday roast! Make sure to ask for horseradish as it pairs very nicely with the beef. Use the Yorkshire pudding to sop up the gravy (ahhh, so is THIS what you do with Yorkshire pudding...). Service was friendly and very efficient. They also have a kid's menu, so you know it's another family friendly pub.

The service was poor, we waited ages to be served, we waited a long time for food. Once the food arrived we were shocked at the portion size for the price we were going to pay. I had to ask for our order to be taken more than once as the waitress had forgotten to come back to us, we complained about the level of service several times and nothing improved due to being short of staff. The maitre'd was of no value in resolving the issues raised and appeared inexperienced in how to deal with a complaint. Really disappointing as i love coming here for the drinks. The only positive thing were actually the drinks they were lovely and arrived promptly. They even gave us hot water with fresh mint leaves for mint tea. Its a shame to say but i wouldn't recommend this place for food. I don't think this is a one off either as after speaking to my friend, she also experienced the same with poor service before! The only reason this is a two is because they took some money off the bill and the drinks in the pub are good.

I had to ask her to repeat the reason I couldn`t order a pint of Guinness and she seemed to spit the words out at me as if she really did not want to be there. After I had paid I stood wondering where I should receive the rolls and she finally said "we`ll bring it over". The rolls arrived reasonably fast but she mumbled something along the lines "there ya go" and promptly walked off. On leaving we walked past her totally engrossed in playing on her mobile. I hope this is not indicative of the service there daily as the pub itself is really quite nice inside but I will never set foot in the place again though. I have since wondered if my initial approach to her was wrong or in some way misconstrued, but I cannot in all honesty think it was. Not sure on any offerings for kids, but it seemed like a more mature place, maybe for older families, friends and professionals to meet. Shame I didn't get chance to spend any time in the bar area, but no doubt I'll return for another visit.

An extremely disappointing meal - food was below average and service was very poor…read more The bar stuff had no concept of who was actually next, the waiters didn't seem to communicate with the kitchen at all (as our and several other patrons meals appeared to have been sat on the hot plate for quite some time) - I ordered my steak rare, it came out completely uncooked on the inside and heavily charred on the outer. Both our starters and mains only appeared after complaining to the waiter - any complaints were simply met wit ha shrug of the shoulders and a meaningless "sorry" Poor poor, very poor service - definitely wouldn't consider a return!
