The Man on the Moon is a pub I visit occasionally which is fairly bog standard in every way. A few years ago it had a refurb and looks much fresher now, but it's one of those places which doesn't really make the most of itself.
It serves food but nothing special in my opinion, this is more the kind of pub where people will pop in for a quick drink on the way to somewhere better.
The menu is one of those 'chips with everything' affairs and to be honest the food isn't all that good and I wouldn't say that much care has gone into its preparation. It's quite cheap, I think most meals cost around £4.99 which is about right considering the poor quality of the food. I don't mean to imply that the food is awful, it's just that there are pubs round here which serve much better meals and have a wider selection. The Man on the Moon just can't compete really.
This pub has a nice lively crowd which is a plus point, especially at night when everyone is letting their hair down and having a laugh. There's usually a mass emptying at around 9.30pm when people who are heading into Town leave, then it seems to go a bit dead but it's not one of those places which is ever really quiet.
Sometimes the music is unbearably loud, I love clubbing and the pounding of the music in Town but not when I've just popped in for a quick glass of something nice after a long day! I think the thing that annoys me more than the volume is the fact that the music in here is so repetitive and boring, if you want to listen to Girls Aloud at 100 decibles over and over again then this is the pub for you!
The drinks, as everything else, are as standard as standard can be! This is obviously a good thing because they have the same basic choices as other pubs, but that's where they stop. They stock the basics and little else, I asked for Tia Maria recently and the guy behind the bar had never heard of it! Prices on the drinks are good and there were several promotions going on when I last visited, I think they have a regular 'double for a single' offer on vodka which can only be a good thing! read more
