Karma is a great host and I am always impressed with the dinner specials and beer selection. Full bar too!

BEAUTIFUL VIEW from the dining area, year around, but especially fall and winter. Food Is good, reasonably priced. I would recommend it.

The second time was pretty good; not too memorable honestly. This third time, there were good and less good parts. The service was pretty good; the waitress was attentive and calm, but it did take awhile to get our red wine glasses for dinner. We wanted a side of "fresh seasonal vegetables" which was $6 for 5-6 small pieces of asparagus; even our waitress admitted that was a bit weak and that she'd take it off our receipt, but she never did and I felt weird asking about it. Two entrees were the filet mignon which were pretty good and well-cooked, but very small in size (no more than 4 oz). I ordered the beef wellington special, which I had to send back the first time because it was clearly undercooked; the second one was slightly better and I think letting it rest longer helped. The service was just not particularly nice about me sending back the first wellington, even though it was clearly undercooked. The dessert was really good - mixed berry crumbled with delicious vanilla ice cream. I'm not sure that I will feel as inclined to come back again after 2 subpar experiences now.

On the good side, service was good, servers were friendly, tried to be helpful, food came out quickly. I found their system confusing though, as you didn't have one server, they all stopped at the table at various times. Food was disappointing. Wife had the Reuben sandwich. Reuben should be corned beef, what she had was NOT corned beef, it looked like roast beef, she said it tasted like leftover prime rib from last night. The fries were good though. I had angel hair pasta shrimp scampi. The shrimp was good, properly cooked without being rubbery, good flavor. The angel hair was badly overcooked, clumpy, mushy. Angel hair is easy to overcook, because it's so thin, but if you are going to offer it on the menu, the cooks need to know how to keep an eye on it. The worst part was the noise/music/DJ. It was so horribly loud, we could not talk. The next table were screaming at each other to be heard. We asked the servers, twice, to turn it down. The first said it was some sort of event, the DJ was running it, and they couldn't change it. The second said she would ask the manager, and I saw her walk up the the manager, talk to him, and saw him shake his head. I opened up the decibel meter on my phone, and it recorded an average of 87 decibels, with a peak of 90 decibels. Equivalent to a large lawn mower. Hearing protection recommended for extended exposure. In retrospect, we should have left when they first said no. We did see another couple who did leave. I would have given 1 star, but because we've had good experience in the past, I'll average it as a 2 star.

Last night was my first visit to Fiddler's Hearth, despite wanting to check this place out ever since I started dating my boyfriend, who lives in South Bend, a year and a half ago! Their regular menu looks sooooo good and their restaurant week menu also looked good! Just a note - only 2 of the items on their restaurant week menu appear on the regular menu, so get these unique dishes while you can these next two weeks! Like I said, I have been wanting to check out this SB institution for ages! Inside is adorable and absolutely maximalist. My minimalist mom would have a heart attack coming in here. So despite it being -5 degrees out, Fiddler's Hearth was packed and we were glad we made reservations. It was the first day they had the special restaurant week so it did take 2 hours for us to get through and finish everything because the kitchen had to make all these new items but I won't fault the restaurant for that in my review today. I am sure it is normally a well-oiled machine. My bf and I both got different things off of the menu but ended up splitting so we could try lots of different Irish foods. We started off sipping in some unique alcoholic drinks. I got the shamrock coffee which had Baileys and mocha. He got the restaurant week special of a pear and allspice old fashioned. His drink was very strong. Mine was delightful and I was a happy camper sipping mine. Round one goes to me for choosing the best drink. The drinks were about $9 for the old fashioned and $7 for the spiked coffee. Next round was our first course, the appetizer. He got the steak pie (a mini version of the Guiness Steak Pie on the normal menu) for the appetizer which was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and seasoned to perfection with lots of onions. I got the potato and leek colcannon cakes for the appetizer which were very leek heavy on the taste. I liked it but agreed his appetizer was the winner. Next up to the plate were our entrees. He paid $3 additional dollars for their take on a salmon wellington. It came with a side of brussel sprouts and potatoes. I chose to be a fatty and get the patty melt with medium rare prime rib, stone ground mustard, grilled onions, and a side of pretty yummy chips (ie French fries). It was a very wet sandwich haha. I personally think mine was the better one, while my bf thought his was the best. Sometimes, you just need a really wet and juicy sandwich!! Haha! Last but not least was our desserts. He was the winner here but just barely. His bread pudding was a calorie heavy delight, smothered in a white chocolate sauce. Mine was a cute little classic Irish dessert, a cranachan, which was sort of like a trifle. On top was a moist and chewy gingerbread cookie. In total, our bill was a little over $100 for tax and tip. A little expensive, sure, but we had a great time and came home very full! I will be back!

You drive up to the awning and a valet opens the gates for you to park. We had reservations. It was very crowded. I am told it's not typically that crowded. It was hard to hear it was so loud. Menu is large. Prices are higher. Be ready. I got the large chopped salad. It wasn't that large for $18. I changed out the dressing to ranch because I did not want the garlic salad dressing. Glad I did. The salad was ok. The salami was smokey it added to the veggies. But for the price it was small and disappointing. 2 people got the prime rib sandwich and it was pretty sloppy. It's better to eat with a knife and fork. I was told it was good. The sweet potato fries have cayenne pepper on them. The chopped salad with tofu was also disappointing. The tofu had a weird bbq type sauce. The server was nice and she was fine. The atmosphere is more high scale. Just disappointed in the taste of the food and portion to cost. Cool experience being on campus but you're paying for it.
