Delightful bakery!! So many choices for a special occasion or just a sweet quick fix. The baker who assisted me was very sweet :) and answered all of my questions happily. Looking forward to having a cold glass of milk and the confections I picked out. read more

Always service with a smile. Eating here makes me happy. I recommend trying the Perfect Fuel Chocolate Latte.

I went in here yesterday and ordered 4 "large" pasties, 2 cannolis, 1 lobster tail and 1 bismark. I got home and went to eat a cannoli and the cannoli shell was soft, the cream had a bit of a "crunchy" top layer to it, it was old. The Lobster Tail was the same, at that point, I just threw the bismark in the trash. The cost was a bit pricey but, if it is worth it, I have no issues paying it, this one was not worth it. I would never go back to this Bakery and I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

This was my second year of ordering a cake for my daughter's birthday. I spoke via email with the orderer about the design and they agreed to make a 1/2 chocolate & 1/2 vanilla sheet cake with a special design for $95. It is a lot for a cake but I expected it to be good. What a disappointment! I arrived to pick it up and the decoration was not at all what I asked for. They said the email system was mixed up and didn't get the image --- should have called me. The cake was also dry and way too sweet. I won't be going back there. Luckily my daughter was easy going about it and happy with the cake. Me, not so much. read more

By far the best tasting goodies I've had in Boston yet. The eclairs and turtle cheesecake are to die for. Definitely worth an out of the way visit. read more

Best chocolate cake with chocolate frosting I've ever eaten. Loved the sprinkle cookies too.

Their chocolate frosting just really stands out to me for some reason. So good and rich and chocolaty, none of that light brown is-there-even-any-cocoa-in-this stuff you find at crummy bakeries. I usually get it via one of their cupcake or their delicious moon cakes, but all their pastries are pretty good. read more

Amazing bakery, the staff is great and the treats are incredible! Try the half moons or the Danishes!

My first time here with my daughter and everything loved it. Bought a couple cupcakes which that's what we came for but we also left with mopnpies. Everything is so good and the prices are really cheap. Definitely will come back again read more

Lyndell's is wonderful. I love that they have been around for over 100 years. Their service is great and their product is fantastic, they've got it right! My favorites are their variety of half moons and the Bismarck's. It's probably a good thing I don't live within walking distance or I'd just have to stop by on my way home every evening. Their prices are reasonable too! read more

First time trying here and OMG their frosting is delicious and the cake is so moist! Hands down best cake I've had in boston ... will def be back !! I highly recommend :) read more

Growing up in Somerville, Lyndells was our local bakery but it continues to be our favorite bakery even though I moved several years ago. Everything there is so fresh and delicious. The employees are always pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend their specialty cakes. We have never been disappointed. Thank you Lyndells! read more

How many ways can I say how much I love this bakery? My brother-in-law brought us here once and we fell in love. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we immediately looked to Lyndell's for our cake. They were easy to work with and very helpful and understanding of the fact that we live in California. Their cakes are so moist and delicious, and we ordered 100 cannolis for our Chinese tea ceremony, which was yummy as well. I could not have been happier with Lyndell's, with kind and generous people who make amazing cakes and pastries. read more

I am REALLY disappointed with the bakery. I have been going there since the seventy and my parents before us. 2 years I noticed a difference in there bread that we loved it was day old bread and you could tell the different, the bags they used for the bread would break before you got home. Yes I complain and the owner stated they don't make the bread every day and the bags she changed dealer. The cakes have more frosting then cake. Eclairs I brought a dozen for Christmas party and some of them the cream was bad. When went to the bakery the person behind the counter stated that happen to her mother too. The reason rating today is I went to lyndell's this week to get bread ,butter rolls and a box of sugar cookies. Butter rolls were day old and sugar cookies were old to. Bread ok. I really believed the owner should really listen to her customers read more

I have to say this is a GREAT bakery. I went there to get a few cup cakes the day before Thanksgiving not knowing what a popular neighborhood place this was. WOW! I had to wait 30 minutes just for a few cupcakes the neighborhood was getting there pies. I had no idea what a GREAT place this was. I just knew about their cupcakes. You dont find places like this any more. The cakes look great if I was a kid again. Just it out. read more

My family has been going to Lyndells for the last 30 years, and with good reason-- they are the best! They have the BEST half moon cookies (black and white cookies) on the planet! They make them almost like mini-cakes! They are delicious! Also, try the banana cream pie. They don't skimp on anything, and it is huge! This is a slice of heaven, people! read more

Lyndell's just did the wedding cake for our May 2010 wedding. I did a bunch of research and once you add the word "wedding" to "cake" it seems like there's nothing available for under $500. But Lyndell's is just an authentic, delicious, no-frills bakery that did our gorgeous two-tiered wedding cake to serve 80 for $350 including delivery to Peabody. We wandered in without an appointment and they sent us home with two boxes full of cake samples on the house. I called the next day to confirm our order and they were just kind, efficient and delivered exactly what we wanted, when we wanted it. read more

Best cupcake I EVER ate! (and I consider myself a cupcake connoisseur. The raspberry tarts were also excellent. read more

Oh Lyndell's Bakery, how I love the sweetness of your your frosting and the moistness of your cakes...no birthday or celebration would ever be the same without your cupcakes!! Yum!!!!!!!!!! read more

Lyndell's screwed up my granddaughter's birthday cake. I complained and the owner called me to apologize and offer me a refund. Wow. That doesn't happen a lot. I am totally impressed. It has preserved my 33-year relationship with this establishment. Not that I need to have so much of a continuing relationship with their amazing baked goods. One apple tart with pastry cream is probably my year's supply of sugar. Ain't it scrumptious, though. read more

The donuts here are to die for. I rely on Lyndell's donuts for moments of sugar craving! But go early -- they are better and fresher the earlier you go and sometimes there isn't as much selection available later in the day. read more

That's all I can say is Thank God I don't live really close to this bakery! I buy the Custard Pie and it is to die for. My husband loves the Blueberry pie. I buy these pies for the holidays. I literally can not stop eating their custard pie. If you like this type of pie, it is to die for. I am considering driving down for the Boston Cream Pie. My granddaughter told me she loves this kind of pie. I will try Lyndell's.Even if Blueberry pie isn't your favorite, you will love their 's. OMG I won't be able to go in there and not buy a Custard. Why can't all this stuff be good for you! Life's Unfair! But, I'll eat it anyway! J.T. read more

I had a fantastic experience with Lyndell's. For a company event I needed to get 4 dozen custom colored donuts on very short notice. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, showing me the donuts and the frosting they could use to custom color and match my swatch (a bright blue). Despite being last minute and custom made, they were only $10 per dozen! I picked them up the next morning, they looked great and tasted phenomenal - a huge hit in the office. Great service, great price, and delicious product! Can't wait to go back and try some of their other baked goods. Thank you Lyndell's! read more

I was there yesterday to buy a shadow cake for my aunt's 81st birthday. This was my 1st. time there, I did have that cake for a friends 74th birthday 2 weeks ago. I loved it!!! The only thing I thought was odd there was nothing on the box, just a plain white box. I think it would have been better looking if it have your name and address on it. Why is it just a plain box, It could have come from any other bakery. You should advertise on your boxes and bags and be proud of your baking skills. read more

Do you want some local goodies? Look no further. I was looking for some treats for my Tufts student and pals.. The Linzer and other cookies are fantastic, the -black and white "moon" cookies are famous around here.. more like a flat cupcake.. canollis sure to please the cannoli fan.. As an out of towner I was shocked at the long lines at the bakeries on the North end.. Bostonians take their bakeries seriously.. no long lines here, just good service and good treats. Now I'm going to order from Lindell's from now on! read more

I like going there for half moon cookies as hearing about others multi-generational cravings for them got me appreciating them and in particular getting them from Lyndell's. The bakery is good, service fine, better than many of their Italian pastry competition (everyone else in Somerville give 1 or 2 stars) but I far prefer going to Medford for Sfogliatella at Modern or North End for experience at Modern/Mike's, more 5 star there. read more

The best black and whites. Period. My preference is with white cake. Never had any negatives in food service or temperament of staff. In fact, I'm stopping by on my way back to the cape. Any complaint of any bakery running out of an item is a good sign of the items made. read more

I've legit never had a better half moon! I always look forward to stopping here when I'm in somerville! Also, it's convenient that you can use cards here as some small shops you cannot. The people are never too friendly otherwise I would have gone with 5 stars. read more

Tried a half moon the other day and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. So much variety too, in case you're not in the mood for a half moon (which is silly because you should always be in the mood for a half moon). read more

I absolutely love this bakery! Their chocolate frosting is to die for. It is very rich and they certainly don't skimp on it either. My favorite are the cupcakes and the loaf cakes. The donuts are awesome, the Danish are delish, cookies are yummy, cannolis are always fresh (as is everything I get there). Can't say I've tried anything other than what I listed here but I'm sure the rest is amazing too. My family has gone here for years. We got their cupcakes for my baby shower. Also their strawberry and the Orange/pineapple frosting is very good too. I really hope they stay in business for many years to come. There's not a lot of GOOD bakeries left. read more

Great family friendly neighborhood bakery. Delicious pastries and goodies. Ham and cheese croissant. Service is always good/efficient.

Great cakes, mediocre service. They advertise that they do custom cakes, but cannot prepare with a week's notice. Another time I asked for a special request and the clerk clearly didn't want to think about it, laughed at the request. read more

Old-school, 20th Century style bakery that makes the sweets that I want. Cupcakes are good quality cake with an equal volume of frosting. They're not overpriced, gigantic or topped with silly candies or overly-complicated flavors. . .just right. Doughnuts are super. Other products are what you would expect if you went to bakeries between 1955 and 1990. The staff are very friendly and helpful with questions, especially for those of us who are vegetarian. read more

If you don't want to get ripped off stay away from Lyndell's Twice this week we were overcharged and when I called and spoke to a very rude and arrogant Guillermo I received No help. The quality of their products also has been going downhill. The frosted raisin bread is almost never fresh and the chocolate drops which cost $22 a dozen are half the size. Needless to say after over 40years I will be going elsewhere. read more

They use to give free cookies to kids. Now they charge you 60 cents. Why not make less expensive cookies, small in size for a cookie jar the kids can see. It's all about the customer and one day they will be paying customers. read more

This past weekend I ordered a cake for my boyfriend's birthday. I went into Lyndell's expecting something heavenly, based on all the reviews I've read and the one cake I did eat from there a couple of years ago. I found it very hard to work with the person at the counter--a young woman in her 20s. She didn't offer any ideas or options, just said "golden cake or chocolate." I didn't know what kind of icing I could get, or what decorations they do. Nothing. Anyway, I wound up ordering a chocolate cake with mocha frosting ($2 extra for mocha) with a little happy birthday message on the top and some balloon decorations. The cake looked like a hack job, like something you'd get at a supermarket, maybe worse. Red, white, and blue decoration on a mocha frosting--ugly. And the whole thing was comprised of 3/4 frosting and 1/4 cake. I was seriously disappointed. It was $18, which, before I got the cake, seemed reasonable. Note: The cake I liked a few years ago at someone else's bday party was a shadow cake. So, I do recommend that variety. read more

This review is based solely on the service at Lyndell's. There is no doubt that they have the most delicious and beautiful cakes anywhere in the Boston area. This can not be disputed. Unfortunately they seem to be extremely unaccommodating and clearly do not make any efforts to please their customers. I went in one Saturday morning to pick up my mom's 85th BD cake, a full sheet cake costing over $100 and more than we needed. I had been there the previous week for another $80 cake. When I asked if I could a few extra boxes for the left over cake I was told that they were expecting a very busy weekend and could not spare any! I explained that there was going to be too much cake and that I had just ordered one the week before and any extra boxes would really be helpful no matter what the size. Still they said no! Just this past weekend I called early Saturday morning to order a BD cake for Sunday(I usually order at least a few days in advance) I knew it might be a bit short notice but I thought they could accommodate. I was told I could not have a cake until Sunday afternoon. I asked if they had any pre made cakes that I could have a birthday greeting placed on and I was told yes. I arrived before 8am on Sunday and found that they had NO birthday cakes available, only a plain cake with some sprinkles on it. The girl told me if I wanted a BD cake I should have ordered it in advance! When I asked if I could have the plain cake "fancied" up a bit maybe with a few flowers and a Happy Birthday I was told "No we are very busy today and have 30 cakes going out" I was the only customer in the bakery at the time and there were at least 4 girls standing around. I find it hard to believe someone could not not have honored my simple request. Like I said Lyndell's cakes are both beautiful and very tasty....I just wish they could be a bit more accommodating to their loyal customers. I may have to explore another option for my special occasion cakes read more

Lyndell's is a real gem. I don't like chocolate so I love that they offer a chocolate free version of the half moons, they are the BEST! It does make me a little uneasy that that one guy in the apron is ALWAYS out back smoking but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he washes his hands after each butt before he touches those delicious baked goods. read more

I love there brown graham honey bread. Theres nothing like it.
