Cabin 8

This State Park could easily be 5*, but the cabin we rented was very dirty. The Park in itself offer several nice uphill hiking trails. Each are short and doing all three equals a nice hike. We also walked the 3.5 miles roundtrip to Rattle Snake Point to look at the ruins. You can also drive on a gravel road. Wild horses were abundant. It is a good place to camp near the Petrified Forrest. The water table is very low. Not sure if this is permanent. Several wind farm workers use the park as a hotel either sleeping in cars or several to a cabin. Showers worked well.

Liked the site but Unable to use the Ramada due to lots of bird nests and birds. Lots of bird feces that should have been cleaned up, it had been there a while so there was no reason for it. Showers were disgusting glad we had a shower in the camper. This was first State Park that I was not impressed with. Great view of the lake from our site.

Just spent two nights here. This is number three of four state parks we are planning to rent cabins this year. Out of the three visits, this is number three. But thats not bad. This location offers fishing, boating, swimming, camping, and hiking. Plenty things to do here. I just prefer more of a mountains and trees atmosphere. Park Rangers are very nice and willing to answer all questions. There are plenty of room and roads to go explore. The lake is not clear. It makes you think there's nothing in there and it's dirty. It's just the soot from the runoff so don't be alarm. Overall I thinks its a great place to go camping.

Beautiful view from our campsite at Lyman lake

We just spent two nights at Lyman Lake State Park. The Rangers were awesome! Very helpful, full of information. The weekend was mostly quiet even with a wedding going on. The views were beautiful. Temps were about 20 degrees cooler than down in Phoenix and the water was just a little colder than we wanted to get in. There was still a lot of people on personal watercraft on the water though.

I did videos and still shots of Petroglyphs, the trails were easy to navigate as steps were placed for the climb.

They have good sized clean restrooms throughout with flush toilets and showers offer. The campground is in nature. There was reported a bear that was coming through the campground. I didn't get to see it because it was totally dark out but we heard rustling it the forest that surrounded our trailer. The campground sits at an elevation of 9,100 ft. in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. It is a very scenic area, surrounded with ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce and quaking aspen. We stayed for 4 days and really enjoyed staying here. It is close (they say walking distance but it's a short drive for me) to Big Lake, one of Arizona's top fishing lakes. Big Lake is known for its trout fishing, with rainbow, brown, cutthroat, brook and, even, the critically endangered Apache trout. The recreation area also has great places for hiking, mountain biking, ATV trails, bird watching and wildlife viewing. Amenities include: Dump Station Flush Toilets Showers Water Hookups Picnic Table Grills/Fire Ring Accessibility Accessible Occupant Message Sewer Hookup Full Hookup Electricity Hookup Water Hookup The best thing this campground offers is dark skies and quiet. The trees were hypnotizing. The campground is amazingly clean. I always pick up trash at any area I visit and this is the one place I had to work to find one inch pieces of trash. I highly recommend Apache Trout Campground. It is tough to find days together to reserve because sites get filled fast. Even if you can visit or stay in another campground nearby. It is worth enjoying nature in its best.

We have made so many memories so far this summer just coming here the last 2.5 weeks (2 separate camping trips). Met so many nice folks around here and my boys love it here too and the lake. It's just a shame there are some sad activities happening- like Kayaks getting stolen and some rando showed up last night and popped up his camp on a reserved space- and there was a guy who had a fire pit going and was being crazy about that and Fire dept had to be called. These Hosts def do their job but I'm glad they have city support when people are crazy around here.

High in and out traffic all day and night. Picnic table was unsafe very wobbly. The bath room was DIRTY. The toilet seat had dried urine on the seat, the floor was very dirty. The check sheet for cleaning indicated last cleaned 6/28/25 and when I checked out 2 days later still had not been cleaned. Plus was the lake and staff were nice. Resturants highly recommend The North and Monica's for breakfast. My favorite was the Brewery 10 minutes away Pinetop Brewing company. All 3 are dog friendly. I will definitely go.back to the area, but will stay elsewhere.
