Rented the cabin here for 2 nights and it was a very nice. They have regular camping areas too but I needed a place with a bed for an elderly person. They have ruining water, clean restrooms, and showers. I would recommend bringing a canopy or something for shade. The lake is bigger than I expected and I happily jumped on my boat to fish. I stayed 1 Day & Night to review and find a larger lake than I had thought. I did videos and still shots of Petroglyphs, the trails were easy to navigate as steps were placed for the climb. I ended up with two reviews by accident. As I traveled my first day to Rattlesnake Point, there was a large crew CDC and Rangers working on the parking area, so I turned around and left to return before checkout the next day. I found shade and started uploading these for a review but was nicely interrupted by an equipment operator, asking me to move into shade across from where I was. I like the repositioning in shade better than where I had parked. He explained that they would be coming through that area later. Brandon mentioned Marcus who would be there to let me know if it was past 5pm when he closed the gate to that area. Very nice Rangers or Operators! read more

Really nice State Park, fairly large lake, great views from camping spots. Both hookup and non hookup RV spots plus tent spots. Shower / bathroom blocks, trash disposal. On site store with the basics and some memorabilia stuff. Friendly and helpful staff. RV sites come with a BBQ, picnic table and fire ring. Highly recommended. read more

The most important thing you should know is that the four cabins by the lake are the only places that you can have a cabin and a camper hooked up. The other cabins, the newer ones do not have RV hook ups. The showers are hot, the bathrooms are clean, the water is brown, and there is no drinking water. Lots of fun for paddle boarding. read more

Nice state park, lots of open areas for walking/hiking, bird watching, and a pretty big lake for kayaks etc. We stayed in a cabin near the lake, beautiful view out our front door. Restrooms and showers were clean, cabin was nice. My husband went to do night photography, as the skies were very dark, except for the outdoor light at the restroom. Small store for essentials. This State Park could easily be 5*, but the cabin we rented was very dirty. The Park in itself offer several nice uphill hiking trails. Each are short and doing all three equals a nice hike. We also walked the 3.5 miles roundtrip to Rattle Snake Point to look at the ruins. You can also drive on a gravel road. Wild horses were abundant. It is a good place to camp near the Petrified Forrest. The water table is very low. Not sure if this is permanent. Several wind farm workers use the park as a hotel either sleeping in cars or several to a cabin. Showers worked well. read more

Never having been here before, showed up early before check in time. Charged $10 to sit in the store parking lot until check in time. Even though our site was vacant and cleaned. Many other sites were open and never used during our stay of 3 days. Park is clean, as well as the bathrooms. People skills are lacking, with the ranger we dealt with. Hope this changes soon. read more

Liked the site but Unable to use the Ramada due to lots of bird nests and birds. Lots of bird feces that should have been cleaned up, it had been there a while so there was no reason for it. Showers were disgusting glad we had a shower in the camper. This was first State Park that I was not impressed with. Great view of the lake from our site. read more

I rode my motorcycle in here about 3 weeks ago. I called ahead of time to see if they had a spot of r a hammock and I was told yes. When I got here there is not spot for a hammock anywhere. When I questioned the park ranger about this she..... kinda looked at me like that it's my problem not her's.. The site itself isn't the worst place I've stayed but it's nothing to get excited about either. read more

Just spent two nights here. This is number three of four state parks we are planning to rent cabins this year. Out of the three visits, this is number three. But thats not bad. This location offers fishing, boating, swimming, camping, and hiking. Plenty things to do here. I just prefer more of a mountains and trees atmosphere. Park Rangers are very nice and willing to answer all questions. There are plenty of room and roads to go explore. The lake is not clear. It makes you think there's nothing in there and it's dirty. It's just the soot from the runoff so don't be alarm. Overall I thinks its a great place to go camping. read more

We just spent two nights at Lyman Lake State Park. The Rangers were awesome! Very helpful, full of information. The weekend was mostly quiet even with a wedding going on. The views were beautiful. Temps were about 20 degrees cooler than down in Phoenix and the water was just a little colder than we wanted to get in. There was still a lot of people on personal watercraft on the water though. read more

This was a nice out of the way place. Our pull through campsite had all hookups, a bbq, a fire ring and a Ramada with table. The water was low in October so it was quite a walk down to it. The hike to the petroglyphs was very nice and worth the short hike. Bathrooms and showers were clean. We got lucky and had a beautiful rainbow while there. read more

This was our first experience staying in cabins in a state park. And it was AWESOME! We are city slickers and don't own a camper/RV and I've never even been camping before. So this was a great way to experience the outdoors without necessarily owning all the gear required for camping. We weren't sure what to expect, but this place was spotless. It was perfect for our family of 5 and our dog too! We packed a giant cooler of food and stuff to BBQ.. I'd recommend bringing lots of coal or wood to burn on the campfire and bbq grills. (They do have a little shop there to buy essentials in case you run out.) The rangers were all so friendly and every morning we saw them doing their rounds.. cleaning the cabins. They are definitely on top of things. We were also able to go to the "haunted cabin" while we were there. The rangers did a great job transforming their lake house and my kids and I screamed our asses off. It was great! Highly recommend for a weekend getaway. read more

Breezy cool evenings and cold lake water. Just what someone needs most on a weekend coming from the desert. I really loved it here. This is July, probably its busiest time and it's quiet and manageable and friendly. Why would you come to Lyman? The open space, the petroglyph hikes, the beautiful cool evenings, and getting on the lake in the afternoons when the monsoons blow in. This is a mystical place and I think many fail to see that. The red rocks, the rim, the ruins, the rock squirrels, the ravishing monsoon clouds-can't think of any more R-words. Most summer lakes people go to in Arizona are trashed by party people. Sure Lyman is brown from the mud-base but there is no floating dead fish, kiddie poo, beer cans , raging country music or women on boats with pasties. Trails are clean, campsites are clean. Rangers are clean. Ok, yes there is a caveat... you have to come prepared-your out here, man-you got to come with your favorite wine or craft beer..lots of food, reading, kayak, dog food. Things are sparse. Let's be honest the Dollar General in St. John's is basically a grocery store. So that's what we are working with people. Fun parts-well, inmates clean the bathrooms and do maintenance, look for the orange jump suits. I don't know if they are open to selfies. Bathrooms have no fans-limited ventilation means good times. There is limited shade for campers, call ahead to book a spot that will have covered picnic tables. read more

My family and I arrived at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon and attempted to check in with the ranger. As my hand touched the doorknob, the door burst open and the ranger jumped out yelling "We're closing, we're closing!" (their site says they're open until 5pm every day May through September). I asked her for 2 Jr Ranger booklets (available at every state park). She told me, "We don't have any of those. We're poor." Then she handed me an envelope to fill out to self pay for our campsite and threatened that she'd be out patrolling first thing in the morning to throw out anyone who hadn't paid because she was sick of them. I insisted that she check on the Jr Ranger Packets and she finally did, and returned with two of them. To her credit, many park rangers seem to think that they're out of booklets until you ask them to check. We weren't sure which sites we were allowed to camp at, so we needed to return to the dreaded visitor center for directions. I sent my husband in this time. Again, the ranger I had run into was defending the door, but thankfully another ranger inside waved my husband in. They wrote down the campsite numbers and we were off. The campsite was clean and well equipped. The park has 4 cabins and 4 yurts. Other campers were inconsiderate, playing loud music until the park enforced 10pm quiet time. The lake itself is brown from silt and very barren looking. The gift shop we were relying on for firewood never opened. Our original plan was to stay for two nights, but we left after one and don't plan on returning. read more

I am so disappointed with this park. This is the worst park I have ever been to. Got there and checked in. Asked the lady if she could give us suggestions on what to do. She had no answer. We continued on into the park. The water looked mucky and nasty. So we went to our site. Not nice. I always try to make the best of something so we set up camp. Decided to take the kids to the beach that was mentioned on their web site. Had to walk quite a ways to get there. As we reached the beach we notice the sandy beach was hard almost up to the water. The water is so nasty and when you step in it is like slimy quicksand. I stood there for about ten minute just thinking on what to do. We packed up the kids and left. Also the old people next to us didn't have much on and was grossing the kid out. We were seeing the moon during the day. Not what little ones need to see. Needless to say we will NEVER go back there. read more
