Once the stomping grounds of such intellectuals as Kerouac, Whistler and even Poe, for a time, the library is now mostly a tomb and a shrine to days gone by. This library is so spectacular though, it's part of the reason we moved here to begin with. The service is so-so by library standards (my mom was a librarian for 10 years, so I'm picky), and the computer search system is AWful, but you can just wander around in it like it's a giant old mansion and let the books find you. There are HUGE historical paintings on the main floor of old revolutionary stuff, plus a few artifacts from the bygone era. The library is also a memorial to fallen soldiers, and their hallowed names grace the walls and halls of the buiding and stairwells, casting a ghostly reverence on passers-by. Outside, it looks like some sort of gothic cathedral, complete with relief scuplture and some old cannons from our bloodied past. Inside, there are 5 floors of books, books and more books, plus the ghost of Jack Kerouac wandering around. Say hi if you see him. As libraries go, the audiovisual section is rather poor, but they have a huge children's section. Great place to take your kid on any rainy afternoon and let them delve into the depths of their own imagination. Here are some stats and info tidbits from their website: From its first collection of 3,500 volumes, the Pollard Memorial Library today houses a collection of approximately 236,000 volumes, plus videos, CDs, DVDs, microfilm collections and museum passes. Membership in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium gives Lowell residents direct access to the holdings of 35 libraries in the region. Circulation of materials amounts to almost 250,000 annually, with approximately one-third of this activity occurring in the children's collection. Although the library as an institution was established in 1844, this building dates back to 1893, and it's still in great shape. The attention to detail regarding the interior (and exterior) ornamentation is breathtaking. Plus, they have on display the largest piece of porcelain to ever come out of Japan, in the form of a huge vase on the main stairwell. Park downtown or in a garage and walk, though, since the parking situation is pretty non-existent. There's a bus stop right in front, but don't be put-off. The main entrance is around the side for nwo, since the front doors are closed off for some reason. Also, they have weird hours, closing at 9 M-Th, but then at 5pm on Fri and Sat. I have young grandchildren who visit and plead for me to take them to the library and are upset with me when I tell them it is a day or time that the library is closed!! I noted that a previous person referred to Tewksbury as a Blue Collar town. I am puzzled how a town with homes selling for One Million Plus Dollars can be called Blue Collar?? As an aside, I have never had a problem having access to any book. The staff has always found a way to locate a copy. Tewksbury Library and staff are an asset to our Town.

The young adult section is next to a computer room and it's perfect for studying. I went with my friends and we had lunch and I took out a book. It's seriously so quiet and relaxing in there. The only thing i had an issue with was the hours. They are not accurate to the ones shown online. Hours are Monday-Wednesday: 8:30am-8:30pm Thursday-Saturday: 8:30am- 4:30pm Sunday: Closed Most of the time they're closed on holidays. Very nice library located in downtown Andover. Clean and quiet so I like to come here to do school…read morework. There are plenty of computers available for use as well as tables and chairs on each floor. Great selection of books and other media. Staff members are friendly and helpful. If you have a library card, you can easily request items from anywhere in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium. Only (minor) downside is with its location downtown, you may have to pay for parking if you park in the lot. It's 50 cents per hour until 6pm each day except Sundays and holidays. However there is plenty of free two-hour parking on the streets.

They are small but are quick to transfer materials between libraries. They help the community is many ways including a free pantry in their lobby. The Wilmington Library is such a wonderful community space! It has a nice selection of books,…read moregames, and resources. The staff are always welcoming and helpful, and they host a wide variety of events for both kids and adults. One of the biggest highlights for us has to be the baby storytime that Nicole runs. It's honestly the best storytime for kids under 2 that I have been to(and trust me I have attended so many at the neighboring libraries). Nicole has such a warm, engaging presence and knows exactly how to capture little ones' attention -- with songs, movement, puppets, and stories at just the right pace for toddlers and babies. It's such a special program that not only the kids enjoy, but parents and caregivers really look forward to as well. It feels like the perfect mix of fun, early learning, and community connection.

This worked well as I was able to find a very quiet corner of the library with study carrels that had power and a bit of privacy. No one seemed to notice that I was taking work calls and the wifi worked quite well. Clean restrooms, speedy wifi and free power for my electronics. This is great!
