I had some 14KT and 18kt gold that I wanted to sell. I had approximately 40 grams of 14kt and 11…read moregrams of 18 KT. He began calculating on his phone. He said the gold was worth $1950 and would give me a check for $1800. I had earlier calculated a value of over $4100 but I thought that it was possible that I fudged the calculations. I received a check for $1,800 and headed out the door. I ran a couple errands and decided to redo the math at today's gold price. It turns out that my calculations were correct. The gold price was $77.99 per gram of 14kt, and $100.74 per gram of 18 KT gold. If you do the math the 14 KT gold is worth $3119.60 and the 18kt is worth $1108.14 for a total of $4,227.74 for the gold. At that point I headed back to the store and told him I was returning his check for $1800 and I wanted the gold back. He asked why and told him the numbers of the worth versus what he gave me is too far apart. He asked what my number was and let him see my calculations. He said "Oh sorry" and returned my gold. That was it "oh sorry ". Did he make a simple mistake in his initial calculations? If the calculations were maybe a 10% apart I could think it was a simple mistake. The fact he was off by $2427 makes me feel it was deliberate and he was attempting to take advantage of me. Beware of this jeweler.
