Because I was trying to keep to a budget, I wanted to select one color that worked in every room regardless of the different lighting. Florence arrived early, with large samples and knew exactly what I would like based on the inspiration pictures on my phone. I also happened to have a painter at the apartment at the same time who was pricing out the job and she briefed him on everything I needed so that I wouldn't have to. Not only that, but she made sure that I was getting a fair price for the labor and paint, which was not something she had to do. We engaged Florence to help us pick all of our interior colors for a house we are remodeling in Novato. We have taken the house down to the studs and are building it up again, but the light in the rooms is variable because of the orientation of the house and the overhanging trees. I thought choosing color would be the easiest part of updating my house. So I just flipped through the color decks and chose a favorite for every room. Then I bought samples, painted swatches and it all went terribly wrong. Everything was infinitely darker on the wall than on paper. Florence saved me. She can somehow magically divine from her fandeck colors that worked perfectly not just in the room, but from room to room and in any light. Choosing color is an art and Florence is indeed an artist. Florence was amazing! We just completed a full exterior repaint on our Victorian house in San Francisco and Florence helped us choose the perfect colors for the exterior. We had a particular challenge in that we were locked into our existing trim color as the prior owners installed new aluminum clad windows to match their trim choice - so we had to work with the existing light ivory trim. For the body color we knew that we wanted to move towards some shade of gray with either blue or green tones, but we kept getting thrown off by how everything we tested changed dramatically once it was tested against the ivory trim. The small paint chips from the paint store can be very deceiving - often times colors change once up on a wall, especially in direct light or shade. We enlisted Florence to help and she absolutely nailed the perfect gray for the body color of our home! It had just enough yellow in the gray to stand up to and compliment the ivory. The final result was spectacular, and after wasting my own time with over six or seven shades of gray I am convinced we would not have found her color choice on our own, and it was well worth engaging with Florence. She also found a dramatic yet tasteful dark navy paint that we used for the front door and garage door that complimented the body and trim beautifully. Florence was a great communicator throughout the course of the project and visited onsite several times to help review and verify our colors. Her process is impressive and she has great knowledge of color as well as paint brands, sheens, etc. I liked that before her first cut at color ideas she first walked the neighborhood and evaluated our existing interior colors to ensure the right suitability and continuity. I also liked that our painting contractor had worked with Florence on several past projects and had great things to say. In short, the accolades for Florence are well deserved. In the end given the price of repainting a full exterior I cannot imagine doing this without working with a pro like Florence beforehand. I had high expectations of Florence and I'm happy to say that she met them. The paint colors look absolutely stunning and we've been pleased by the number of unsolicited compliments we've received since the work was done - neighbors and friends love it! Warning! It's not as easy to pick a color for the exterior of your house as you might think it is! If you have any doubts about what color to choose, don't wing it - call Florence from Eye for Color. I am a first time home owner who thought it would be fun to paint my house blue. Once my house was half painted, I realized the blue I picked was awful and my house now looked like a Fisher-Price playhouse. I realized I needed help, but was nervous to call a color consultant who might be too fancy for me or might judge me for picking such an awful color. But I am so glad I called Florence. She was very down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and not judgmental at all about my laughable attempt to paint my house blue. Florence is a great listener, clearly has very good taste, and knows what she's talking about. She studies every part of your house and its surroundings from all different angles to come up with what she thinks will look best on your home. "I can make suggestions, but the most important thing is that YOU like it." To me, this is what sets Florence apart. Sometimes Designers recommend colors that are "current," or colors they themselves would choose. But not Florence. She really listens. I met Florence in the local paint store when I was attempting to pick out a gray to compliment my new bathroom "silver" tumbled travertine. She gave me some chip samples to take home and told me she would be happy to come to my house to see the actual bathroom and bring all her fandecks. Now I need to preface all this with the fact that I am not color blind. I do, in fact, have an eye for color. Just not Florence's eye. So why was this tiny bathroom in such a challenge? Because gray, I learned is a challenge. Gray can have blue, green, brown, purple, and even red undertones. And because my "silver" travertine consisted of not only grays, but also warm browns, a bit of white, and, according to Florence, traces of red. We held up sample after sample. "Too blue," she would say. Or "too light, no contrast with the tile." It was wonderful. It was educational. It was fun. We decided on a color for the walls and a color for the ceiling (colors #1). My painter then painted samples on both the walls and ceiling. "Don't skip this step," warned Florence. Great advice. When I saw the paint on the wall, it looked very different from the chips. I hated it. So I phoned Florence. And she came out again. And on the same day, as my painter was getting anxious. We decided on 2 more colors, one for the ceiling, and one for the walls (colors #2). The painter put them on. Much better, but not perfect. Round three: "Florence, can you come one more time?" She came. We decided the ceiling color was good, but the wall color had little contrast with the tile. So I asked her to suggest a color she would use. She chose a dark color with brown undertones. I decided to give it a try. (wall color #3) The last thing she said was, "Remember, YOU have to like it. It's your bathroom." Well, I didn't like it. While it really complimented the tile, I wanted to bring out the gray and not the brown, and it just felt too dark for me. So I phoned Florence yet again. She suggested trying a slightly darker shade of wall color #2. I went back to the paint store and bought the sample. I totally trusted her. My husband put it on the wall. Nailed it. Moral of the story? You may think you have an eye for color, but you don't have Florence's eye. Trust her. Hire you. You will be glad you did. read more

My wife and I have gotten to know Florence through several sessions selecting paint for our whole house renovation. She has an almost supernatural ability to work from very limited data - like pix from our iPhones - and come up with colors that work great on our walls. She never pushes us toward trending colors unless they happen to line up with what we really want and will work in our home. Florence listens very carefully to what we're trying to create, but also does not hesitate to offer guidance when that's what we really need. Obviously this is a fine line but Florence has a fine mind and fine eye, so she really delivers.
