I was staying at one of the area hotels, and based on the reviews decided to give them a try. Wow, great food and great service. My waiter asked me if I had ever been there before, and recommended their signature steak fajitas. The manager then came over and thanked me for giving them a try and brought me a tiny sample fajita which was great. I ended up going with the house specialty steak fajitas which were very tasty. The steak is marinated and tenderized, very tender and flavorful. The peppers are on the hotter end of the scale, not your typical bell peppers found in your chain restaurant fajitas. They added some kick to the meal which was great for me, but look out if you don't like hot peppers. All of the accompaniments were good also: guacamole, rice, pico, and the salsa/chips. Yes, it is a bit pricy for lunch, ~$20 for the steak fajitas, but it is a dinner sized portion that you could share between 2 smaller appetite people. I think it was a great value given the quality and portions. I am a large man and I left stuffed. read more

Lupe's is always delicious and just an enjoyable time. I wish there was a way to get my hands on the secret recipe as to what seasoning they use to make their fajitas taste so good. We always sit at the bar when we visit Lupe's and enjoy the interaction with the other fellow bar guests and bartenders. Ryan (bartender) is awesome and always knows what we want. Cocktails arrive fast and food always comes out timely, sizzling and delicious. You truly can't go wrong with any menu option at Lupe's. went there for lunch with 2 other people. got no food in 40 minutes then the manager came by and said there was a mixup with our order that he had no explantion why. proceeded to personally take our orders again . waited 20 minutes more...still no food. as we walked out we asked to see him to tell him we were leaving.....proceeded to say we could take it to go as it was ready now....no offer to compensate....nothing....been going there since it originally opened.....never again. too many good restaurants to mess with this incompetence. read more

I am so disappointed and insulted in how my order for over $170 was handled. My order was supposed to feed 8-10 but I only got enough beans for maybe 4 people and only one not quite full pint of salsa!! I called back to inquire about the lesser quantities and was given a hard time about some beans and salsa!!!!! This was my second big order and I've sent business from several friends to Lupe's. They way I was treated was insulting and no longer worthy of my powerful dollars nor those of my sorority and community business friends. Also, plates, cutlery and napkins were NOT initially provided, had to ask for these item when we went back for more beans and salsa. Btw, the so called extra beans had more juice ,tomatoes and bacon fat than beans! Compromising quality for quantity does NOT ensure customer goodwill! read more

This is the place you go when you don't open your eyes and see the clearly superior mexican restaurants in the surrounding area, or if the others are full. I ultimately think the food is decent, but it is definitely not worth the outrageous and insulting prices. I mean c'mon a platter of chicken and beef fajitas that feeds 3 for $59.99? Fantastic, and I mean, FANTASTIC service! They accommodated our Keto diet with menu substitutions. They added brussel sprout, which I don't eat, and I ate every single sprout. Skinny margaritas were fabulous. The manager, John, was very friendly, and was truly concerned with our dining experience. He and our waiter(Josh) were genuinely compassionate about the way they serviced us! Very observant of the table needs and kept our sinks aflowin'. Will go out of our way in the future to dine at this wonderful establishment. I had 3 Pepper Steak and my wife had the Mixed Grill. Outdoor seating was a plus. read more

Worst management ever! We got there at 5:15 on a Saturday night for dinner. Lots of empty tables inside and out, but were told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. Later found out the delay was because "the kitchen was backed up so we can't seat anyone" - wth? Instead of seating people at the empty tables, everyone had to stand in the minuscule waiting area. Being seated, we could have gotten chips and beverages while we waited. Instead, after waiting and seeing tables empty and not being seated, we left mad and don't know if we'll be back. read more

Our family has been coming to Lupes' on Bay Area Blvd since they first opened back in the late 80's, I think, and we've always had real good Tex-Mex at a reasonable cost. It was a great place to take the kids growing up, since they loved the food and the 4 of us could have a good meal at a modest price. The staff is always helpful and attentive. Now about the menu, we love the Fajitas, Chicken Poblano, Tacos Al Carbon, Barbacoa and Quesadillas. Also the Charro beans and Guacamole are to die for. The beans are made with bacon and the Guacamole is fresh and without any tasteless filler. So, I've not reviewed this place before and the main reason that I'm doing it now is that last weekend we went and I had the Fish Tacos. They were fabulous! Believe it or not, that was the first time I've ever had them,...Yes, I see you rolling your eyes, but I'm sorta' old fashioned and don't think of fish and Tex-Mex in the same genre. The best ever. Beans and chopped tomatoes served with chips are amazing!!! Quesadillas with pico inside are so great on homemade jumbo tortillas. Nothing like home made tortillas. Fajitas are my go to and melt in your mouth. Cedar plank salmon is fantastic but I get the sauce on the side because they pile it on. Margaritas are great and I don't like margaritas. I love this restaurant! The managers are so nice, and frequently have greeted me and my friends at our table to ask how the food is. It makes me feel welcome and keeps me coming back. I also have to mention that I LOVE their chips and salsa. I'm a bit picky, but this place hits the spot. Their margaritas are pretty good, but occasionally the mix has tasted a little off. Let me start by saying that the only reason I am writing this review is because I am utterly bedridden and feeling sick (in the good way!) from having eaten waaaay too much of what was possibly the best beef fajitas I have ever had in my life. Seriously, I can't move. All I could do was stand and sag once I got out of the car, stumbled from a belly full of beef, stumble in the door, and collapse on my bed with my laptop to start this review. I found this place thanks to Yelp. After eating here, I have no idea why there aren't hundreds of Yelpers raving about this place, but after careful perusing of surrounding restaurants, there don't seem to be as many Yelpers as you would expect compared to the heart of Houston. Needless to say, eat here, it's totes magotes worth it. Mad shout-out goes to our waiter Luis. He was awesome - warm, genuine, and funny. Some service staff sometimes try to be overly saccharine to work for their tips - I got none of that from Luis. He was a pleasure to dine with. He would take the initiative to provide recommendations/suggestions if we faltered. The decor is fun, but not stifling at all. I thought it was great that they had real sombreros as lampshades hanging from the ceiling. Besides the typical complimentary chips and salsa, they also bring out a bean dip. If you're a first timer, they bring out a small sample of their "world famous" beef fajita. I had already placed my order, but to actually taste a sample of it before getting my entree sealed the deal and I was glancing around excitedly every time a waiter came out of the kitchen, hoping it was my fajita entree. Seriously, if you come here, order the beef fajitas. You can get them by the 1/2 lb or 1 lb. In my case, before I was given the fajita sample, I had placed my order of getting the combo chicken, shrimp, and beef fajita entree. The chicken and shrimp were tasty, but the beef was phenomenal. Only one word can describe the beef: Succulent. Foshizzle. When I asked Luis what kind of tortilla I should get, he recommended the flour tortilla, but without hesitation, told me he'd bring me one corn tortilla too to try out. Later in my fit of gluttony, I spied what I thought to be a grilled plump sweet red pepper amongst my grilled onions. After suspiciously sniffing it, I thought, "I don't smell anything spicy, must be safe!" Boy, was I wrong. Way wrong. Way way way wrong. There are few things I regret doing in life, biting into that pepper was one of them. Luis came by about a minute later to inquire how our meal was when he spied my dilemma. After sympathizing with me that he himself was mostly familiar with green jalapenos, and didn't start dealing with red jalapenos until he got into the food business, he jumped right on it and said he'd bring me some milk! Awwwwwwww.... it was real milk, too, not the watery non-fat, 2% type. My savior. Trust me, I typically can do spicy food, but that jalapeño pepper made me tap out. I visited this location a few days ago. The service was slow. Our waitress was new and came back to the table 3 times to make sure our order was correct, in the end there was still a mix up with the order. My wife is on a raw vegetarian diet and they brought out chicken on her salad. They were very slow to bring out the Queso appetizer that I had ordered. The food was OK, nothing to write home about, but not horrible either. The playground for the kids is a plus, but if you are looking for good Mexican food in the area you can do a LOT better. read more

Waited for service to be seated at 1500. It was a gorgeous day to go out and sit outside. There were about 4 couples on the patio. Service to be seated was about 15 minutes. Another 10 minutes to get a waiter bringing us chips and salsa/Frijoles. The chips were cold and unsalted. We ordered 2 Original Rita during happy hour. They were ok. We should have gone to Pappasitos for the same thing. I know for a fact everything would've been more pleasant from past experience. Anyhow..we ordered entrees of combination seafood enchilada and tamales. I guess had our hopes up of having fresh Mexican food. I feel like why have tamales on the menu if they will not be fresh. The crabmeat enchilada was not good quality for the price. The only thing that I gave a star for is the patio. I don't understand why people love this place. It's extremely noisy, service is awful and for the price the food is mediocre at best. To be fair, the only time I go is when a group of people want to go. Last night, we were party of 8. One person was late arriving, but we were prepared to place her order with ours because she was on the way, just held up in traffic. Chips and salsa and beans came, but no plates. Three times we asked for plates before we got them. After sitting a good 10-15 minutes, our drink orders were taken. In the meantime, my head was pounding because it was so loud in there. There was no way to have a conversation with table mates, because it was too loud. Drinks finally came, I'm fairly certain we had been sitting there at least 30 minutes before we got drinks. I had to ask for refills on iced tea. Soft drinks were never refilled and margaritas were reordered only after flagging down the server and asking. I got the campechana and it was okay, but the chips that came with it were burnt. I had to get chips from the chip basket. One of our table mates had to ask multiple times for fresh jalapenos. Lupe Tortilla is not a place I would go for myself. The only reason that I go, is because someone wants to. but in the future, I will go, having already eaten and take earplugs and plenty of patience. read more

Had lunch here today and the had a very bad experience. To start out, it took 15 minutes for us to even be acknowledged and an additional 5 minutes to get water brought to the table. We had plenty of time to look over the menu and we need what we wanted. The waitress brought our water and walked away! I had to ask her to come back and beg to place our order. If she is that slow on getting us water, then the whole dining experience was going to be long! Very disappointed, as my first visit here was enjoyable. We had to send back an entree, as it was so spicy it was not edible. Nothing was mentioned on the menu of how spicy it was. My entree was so salty I could not eat it. It was terrible. My son and I had lunch one Sunday afternoon. He ordered 3 beef enchiladas with fajita meat. It was fine but when we got the bill, there was a three dollar per enchilada on top of the meal price. The waiter, who was nice, did not tell us it would be an extra charge. Not that the food wasn't good bit over 20 bucks for enchiladas, rice, and beans was a bit steep. Wish I had known. My wife and I absolutely love the fajitas here. The fajitas are among the best we have ever had. Give the fajitas a 10/10. Lupe's also serves a delicious bean dip along with the traditional chips and salsa as you wait for you meal .Great atmosphere, friendly servers( Sadie ,in particular has always been above and beyond with her service), just great everthing !! We heard a lot of good things about Lupe Tortilla. This was our first time eating here. It was a Friday night, they were really busy. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, not too bad. Our waiter was nice, but service was a little slow. We waited a while before he came back to take our order. We weren't too impressed with the salsa and bean dip they bring to the table.
