I had only been to Chuy's one other time and the last time, I didn't remember whether the food was good or not but I can say that it was this time. Since it was happy hour, I was looking forward to getting some good deals on drinks but honestly, the menu was not even worth it. Chuy's is always a consistent place for me to get my Tex-Mex fix. Good quality for a casual chain restaurant, and service is usually good as well. The value you're getting is good compared many of the other fancier Mexican restaurants. My go-to is usually the steak burrito. Filled to the brim with steak and comes with the usual rice and beans. I also do like their many sauce options, which were free every time I asked to try a new one on the side. If I could give this place zero stars, trust me, I would. One star is being generous. This happened on 11/25 around 9:30 PM, the night before Thanksgiving. And i get that it's a long week, people are tired, whatever. But the store is open until 10 PM, and I was only ordering chips and salsa... literally the easiest thing on the menu. Before I even got there, I called at 9:28 PM--when I was already down the street because I wanted to be courteous. I knew it was the night before a holiday, and I didn't want to place an order last-second and make anyone scramble. I literally just wanted the salsa ready so I could grab it and go. Joseph answers the phone and the FIRST thing out of his mouth is: "We close in 32 minutes." No "hello," no "what can I get for you," nothing. Just pure attitude. So i go in to pick it up since i already felt like a bother, the older gentleman at the front was actually very nice. He greeted me warmly when I walked in. But the second Joseph P came out with my to-go order, everything went downhill. When I arrived, he didn't greet me, didn't acknowledge me, didn't say a single word. He just pushed the bag across the counter like he couldn't be bothered to lift his arm. No eye contact, no basic manners, nothing. And to top it off -- I still tipped $8 on an $11 order (because I always tip well), and he looked at the amount and still didn't manage even a half-smile or a simple "thank you." I don't know what happened to Chuy's, but it has definitely changed since I came here last. I wanted to introduce my family from out of the country to some good ole Tex Mex. My niece specifically wanted to try a taco since they don't have that in the part of the world they are from. Chuy's was the choice we landed on and I didn't even think twice about doing any extra research since I've loved it in the past. We came on a Sunday at lunch and the place was nearly empty. That should've been my sign to go somewhere else. Customer service was good though and for that I added a star. The menu seemed to have gotten a lot smaller. They have a variety of categories with a few selections to choose from within that category. One thing they always asked in the past if it was our first time and they would bring a sample flight of all their sauces so you could make the right choice in an entree. Not this time. Chips came out first. It came with a green sauce that was decent, but the "salsa" was just a bowl of diced tomatoes. It wasn't even pico. Another sign I should've got up and left. We ordered a variety of items for entrees . I made sure my cousin and her kids got something they couldn't get in India like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas. The kiddos got kids meals. I ordered the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo which I'm not sure why it's even called that. It came with three different enchilada in different sauces, one hard taco and one cheesy tostada. The food was an epic fail all around other than the cheeseburger kids meal my nephew tore up. First off, the plates were messy. Everything was lacking flavor. The tortillas in all the enchiladas seemed stale and hard. There was hardly any meat in the items that was supposed to have meat. The beans and rice might as well have come from a can (and maybe they did?), the chicken flautas were essentially Deli-Mex taquitos, and the presentation was slop. Chuy's is consistent with their food no matter what location you go to. This day we sat at the bar at the Webster location. The bartender was super friendly and attentive. Very laid back. I ordered a Ruby Red frozen margarita which was delicious, and my dining companion had a Paloma. I also had a mango swirl margarita which was delicious. We both got burritos, and I have to say steak fajita with ultimate tomatillo sauce and beans on the side is THE way to go! We also got one with ground beef and red sauce which was also so good. The burritos are huge so I hope you are hungry! The queso was a little runny and bland this day but that didn't stop us from eating the entire thing, so it wasn't that bad :p And I could eat buckets of the green sauce. When I pointed this out to my server, she returned it to the bar, returned with the correct rank and stated that the bartender did not understand Anejo. I had the Chicka chicka Boom boom, its spicy and I don't remember it being as spicy, but I also think that my taste buds for spiciness has changed. Nonetheless, it was delicious, hot and fresh! I've been a loyal Chuy's customer since last summer, visiting at least twice a month, but lately my experiences have been really disappointing. The food has become inconsistent, especially the queso, which has been grainy, cold, or even watery on multiple visits. The drinks are hit or miss, but that alone wouldn't stop me from coming back. What truly made this my last visit was the service. I've never had a bad server experience at Chuy's until now. My husband left an $8 cash tip on a $50 tab, which matched the level of service we received, especially since our server didn't even bring out our food and another staff member did. Despite this, she charged an additional $10 tip to the card under her name, which felt extremely entitled and inappropriate. We were nothing but kind, patient, and appreciative during our visit. When we arrived, she was standing near the host stand and had to be asked if she was "ready" for a table, and the restaurant wasn't even busy at the time. I was feeling under the weather and figured some chicken tortilla soup would help me to feel better. I ordered the soup plus a nacho kit, and a dozen flautas for the rest of the family. All of that was less than $50 including tip. I placed my order online and got to choose my pickup time. Even though I arrived about fifteen minutes early, I only had a short wait and received my food before the time I'd selected. It had been years since I'd had Chuy's but I remembered the soup being fantastic. Unfortunately my soup was lukewarm and not very appetizing. I didn't finish it. None of the food was piping hot. It was almost like everything had been bagged and was waiting for me to arrive and pick it up. The nachos were pretty good but the amount of toppings were pretty small to supposedly serve 4-6 people. It definitely wouldn't have served 4-6 adults. Also, the chips were so brittle that they broke apart just trying to scoop up leftover queso from my plate. They were breaking as I tried to take them out of the bag. Thankfully they gave us two bags of chips, which are probably fried in-house. The flautas were delicious. Excellent service, Saturday night, very busy. We were greeted right away, no wait for a table, and were placed in a booth per request. My boyfriend is a bit impatient so he went to bar to get drinks (we had the Ruby Ritas,yummy). The food was excellent, we highly recommend the quesadillas with the ranch dressing. They served the ranch with the salsa and homemade chips and it was so amazing, we took some home. I'm big on condiments and their ranch was by far, one of the best I've ever tasted and I never would have tried ranch on tortilla chips, but it was incredible! I am not sure why some of these reviews are awful and particularly rude like the guy expecting authentic Mexican food from a Tex Mex restaurant but hey, to each their own right?
