Upscale-ish grocery store in downtown. Their prices are somewhat accordingly; definitely higher than you'd see in Walmart. However because of this, they do have some nicer things than you can't get at Walmart, such as duck or goose, nice bakery items, prepared meals, craft sodas, etc. You'll pay a bit more on regular items as a result. Personally I was impressed how much stuff they crammed into this little corner store, as they have bath, kitchen, and decor items as well as cards and magazines upstairs. Now for the ugly. The bathroom is quite hidden in the basement, only accessible in the center "seating area" (meant to service the adjoined Caribou Coffee, most likely), and requires a key. The key can only be obtained from the cashier monitoring the self-checkout zone, and of course you will have to make a purchase to do so. Kindly, the employee working it allowed me the key before purchase, and I got some soda on my way out (scout's honor, right?). The bathroom was fairly immense (four stalls, three urinals) for a locked bathroom, lol. It was clean though. Another fair warning, there's a two hour limit in the parking lot, and furthermore you must remain on premises for those two hours or risk being towed (at least, that's what the sign says). So if you're hoping to park here, pop in for a quick purchase, and then spend time at shops elsewhere downtown, this spot isn't an option. I bought bread on March 12. I was not aware that it expired on March 13. This is a common occurrence with this store. And the prices are better even at high end grocers. Best customer service of any grocery store. I am what you might call high maintenance customer. I have interacted with employees of all departments with questions. Staff is so knowledgeable and can always answer my questions. They go out of their way to be helpful. One example (although there are many) is the deli was out of something I wanted and the deli manager ordered the item for me and personally called me when it came in. The manager of the store truly cares. You can feel the respect his staff feels for him. The most inspiring story was there was a customer in front of me who Snap benefits hadn't come in and she couldn't pay for her groceries I offered to pay but the manager insisted on paying..I thought he would just charge it off to the store but he did not. He took his personal credit card out and paid for it. An act of compassion and empathy I won't forget. read more

This is my Shnitz!! I stopped here for sunflowers for my Mom and to see if I could order flowers to send to my Cousins family(she passed away)! I absolutely love this store and go here everytime I'm in town! The area has come up in a 2 block radius by building brand new condos, and businesses. The area is slowly cleaning and rebuilding after riots. This location looks untouched and they have placed a metal fence around it which gives it a rich touch of class. The store was still organized and everything was in its place. The pastries area still looks yummy and the 2 ladies working over there were really nice!! I liked that they support PRIDE and although, I'm straight... I support those whom I know and love ( LGBT ) as well as, others. Your life your choice!!! They goin talk about humans no matter what, so live your best life!!! YOLO My only complaint is that, they need a new security guard, because the one there followed me around and was horrible at it!!! Peek a freaking boo, dude!!! This place has gone way downhill since the pandemic. Must be a management shift or just the pressure of working through that mess on the "frontlines". In my experiences lately, Lunds fronts as a customer-centric somewhat upscale shopping experience but with a dark undercurrent that always manifests in some weird unnecessary way. The produce department is pretty impeccable I will admit. Store selection is decent, not amazing but surely adequate. That's not the problem. Higher prices aren't the problem either but there is that. Everyone knows the prices here aren't going to beat neighboring Cub but that's supposed to pay for this elevated shopping promise. Well let me tell you, folks-- the dream is over. While the majority of the staff are competent and affable and I even know a few by first name, I've had some awkward and even bitter transactions and exchanges here. It just seems like nobody is very happy to work here. Hope the benefits are good. Remember that old saying the customer is always right? I don't actually believe that 100% but if I choose the self-service line, don't nervously pull me aside and tell me I have too many groceries for the "express lane", argue with me about it and make a bunch of shit up. There is no 15 item limit. There never was, there's no sign to inform anyone. Embarrassing and totally not needed intervention. Especially with literally NO LINE. If the ledges are too small for a few items that's a store problem, not my problem. FWIW, the cashier thought there was a 25 item limit. There's no limit... there's just dicks who want to bully customers apparently. There's no way the rude manager could know how many items were in my cart anyway. Turns out there were 20, most of them single cans of soda and energy drinks, and some 12 packs. Oh no call the cops! Another thing at this store is just try asking to bag your own groceries. I dare you! You'll have a very awkward exchange. They're Naz1s about bagging your stuff and you'll have to tell them about 6 times to stop touching the food you just bought. Not everybody wants to waste trees and put more plastic in the oceans, and have 2 sets of hands fondling their purchases. Some thinks it's fancy, more power to them. You may have guessed but I am done here and judging from the low rating this store has, I am not the only one. I love this Lunds & Byerlys and shop here frequently. The location of this grocery market is killer and that is part of the reason I love it - many people are close enough to walk or bike to it. If you do drive, there is also plenty of parking. This particular Lunds location is also always well stocked too. I really dislike driving to the market looking for a particular item or flavor and finding that they are out of stock. I rarely have this problem at this location. The staff here are friendly and helpful which I always appreciate! The Lunds & Byerlys bakery also deserves a special note, the items are always exceptional. I always get birthday treats from this bakery for birthdays and special events - so yummy!! Also, the attached Caribou Coffee is nice and the Bachman's plant selection here is awesome! I don't know about you but when I grocery shop I also tend to do some plant adoption as well... This location usually has lots of options. Horrible needs new staff and selection staff is rude and follows you around even if your a regular

I live about a block from here, and this is my go-to store when I need to get something quick without needing to take a trek in the car or go to far. I believe, originally, this store used to be strictly Lunds, until they merged with Byerlys. It's a decent location, clean, reasonably friendly staff. They have a Caribou Coffee adjacent, which is helpful if you need a pick me up, caffeine style. I thoroughly enjoy getting items from the deli and bakery, as they are always fresh. I also like their daily offerings for Lunds and Byerlys Extras Members, such as $6 sushi on Tuesday, and $6 cluck for a buck (that's rotisserie chicken, to you!) What I don't care for with regard to this particular location is that there seems to be a bit of an air of favoritism toward less melanated customers. I have been in line with someone ahead of me who was greeted with a smile, asked if they were an Extras member, and seemingly treated very well during their interaction. When I come up next, however, with some associates, I am not given much eye contact, not asked whether or not I'm an Extras member, and not given as "cushy," if you will, of a customer service feel. These are just my observations after having shopped here for years. Overall, just OK for me, at this point, mostly for convenience with regard to location and deli/bakery selections. read more

If I'm in this burg on a Friday, I usually meet a friend at this LB for a meeting and coffee. After we are done, I usually drop a $50 or two on odds and ends I fly back to Chicago as taste treats for friends. Sure I can get the same premium brands cheaper in Chicago, but the idea is to bring something home folks will like even if it costs more here on the frontier. Well, Friday, January 11, 2020, I had carried in a paper bag with hard goods I bought elsewhere. The bag was ripping, so when I went into LB, I stopped and grabbed a plastic bag from a register where there was no cashier. The cashier at the next register, stops check out a customer to rudely yell, "You can't do that, those bags are 5-cents." Just because your city council are idiots, doesn't mean your employees have to be. So that day, and in the foreseeable future, I didn't make my usual purchases to take back with me. So, I owe you 5-cents, but I saved $50+ bucks, which I will be spending at Surdyk's on liquors and cheeses from now on. read more

I buy the rest of my groceries somewhere else. Lunds is too expensive for this lil' CM to shop normally, but its acceptable in a pinch, their cheese department is exceptional and they do have more than decent sales. Lund's, sadly has seen far better days. As an aging Yelper, I recall years prior to say around 2010 The delis were fabulous, always fresh and good. The service was impeccable. Lund's advertised on it, and rightfully so. Carry out? Always! Chat with butcher on the best way to cook something? No problem! Sure it cost more, but you were paying for the service, for the best meat and seafood in town, and for the pleasure of just plain being there. Slowly it shifted to the more in and out style of a "regular" grocery. You didn't encounter too many chatty butchers and no one fell all over themselves to ask if you were finding things you needed. Okay, whatever. The quality and the amenities with getting your big ol' bags carried out and not having to fight with a cart in the parking lot still made Lund's worthwhile sometimes to some of us. Maybe too pricy to shop there every week, but as a "treat" or for specialty items or meat/seafood for special occasions, yes. Then things started to get serious. I got expired chicken soup from the Richfield location. I bought Lund's brand "Company Hash browns" and they were hideous. At Uptown, I got a couple of Filet Mignon home to discover they were actually smelly and shiny, tip offs to bad meat. They had to be returned. Well, today the Uptown Lund's got me one last time. A bagger bagged up two heavy bags for me and I also had a bundle of toilet paper, a 12 pack. Clearly not just a hand carry. He then walked away from the counter. I had to get a cart, and bring the bags out myself. Mind you, they don't have any cart racks in the parking lot (because baggers are suppose to be bringing those loads out) so I had to walk back in with the cart. Now, I am not a spoiled Princess who can't bag her own and carry her own. I just figure I pay for more at Lunds. For that, I could have gotten my stuff at Cub today for 15 bucks less. No, I did not ask because I should not have to, anymore than I should have to worry about expired deli and bad meat. Not at Lund's, not for those prices. In the future, I think I'll check out Hy Vee or Kowalski's when I am not at my usual Cub. The old Lunds is history. read more

POLICE here ABUSE THEIR POWER and HARASS CUSTOMERS. DO NOT SHOP HERE !! This was my first and last time here. After landing at the MPS airport and waiting for my hotel check-in, I thought shopping for the essentials was a good idea. Minding my business and ONLY having a water bottle in my hand the police officer comes up to me and says they have me on camera putting something in my bag--I immediately start crying because this is my first time visiting and honestly thought it was a cruel prank at first. When I told him I had nothing and gestured for him to look inside my bag, he became hostile and said he would NOT look inside my back and if I didn't give up the item (again, there was no item. I did not steal a thing) I WOULD GO TO JAIL FOR THE NIGHT. Now I'm crying more and ripping my bag open pulling everything out to prove my innocence... He walked away, came back, and TOLD ME TO LEAVE. No apology, no bullshit excuse either--just said to leave. So I left the store crying. I called the manager and they said that SOMETIMES the police officer runs situations like this by them first and SOMETIMES NOT--seems like a flawed system... How does the police officer choose when to consult the manager and when not? And that's it--again, no sorry or excuse from the manager. Just a "I'll look into this." read more

Even though I roll with #teamkowalskis (since there's one open 24/7 and close to my crib), I can't front and say that this grocery store isn't nice. Every time I step into this place, I feel like I'm one of those ballers that lives on Lake of the Isles. Anyways, here's my take: I. PRODUCE During the times I've visited, the shelves have been stocked to the max with both non-organic and organic fruits and vegetables. They also have this cool wavy shelf to display everything. --Prices fall above average, and they don't really encourage me to shop there instead of a co-op (which is about the same, if not more affordable). II. MEATS This section has pretty standard poultry, beef, and pork selections that lack local options, despite the gigantic sign in the produce section that says "shop local." Most of the meats, too, are light pink and dull. They aren't vibrant red, thus not as fresh as other places. In other words, I wouldn't visit this Lunds to buy meat, unless it was for Boar's Head deli meats (which can be found at other high-end grocery stores). III. DELI Interesting selection of American salads, sandwiches, soups, sushi and the like. They all look like they were made daily, and I would consider trying something from there in the future. Prices are like those one would find at a cafe or restaurant. IV. BAKERY This is what separates Lunds/ Byerlys from other grocery stores in the area. They have a sexy display of cupcakes, cakes, and other sweets near the front-right of the store. If summer wasn't coming up, I would totally stuff my face with some of those treats. V. OTHER TIDBITS -Pretty standard selection of drinks, spices, frozen foods, etc... -Big parking lot, considering it's Uptown. -There's a Caribou connected to it. Overall, some good and not so great. This is my go-to place when I want to pick up a quick, healthy, cheapish lunch in Uptown without having to pay for parking. Their salad bar is always fresh and well stocked (I like to add crab meat, rotisserie chicken, eggs, green and red onions to my spring mix). Additionally, on Wednesdays, they have $4.99 sushi which would be a great addition to the salad if you're looking to share a lunch with someone. Compared to all the other Lunds and Byerlys stores in the state, This particular location sucks. It is much smaller than the other locations, and the people that work here... man, I don't even know. Anyways, I would agree with Sarah P. also, the prices here seem higher than any other Lunds and Byerlys stores. Maybe it's because of the location and they need to make up to pay their store mortgage? I don't know. I used to come here all the time since I lived about a half a block away, but that was when they were 24 hours. My main gripe about these grocery stores is that they are no longer 24 hours. I go into Lunds late Thurs evening after the movies and was craving one of their big frosted sugar cookies. I ususlly have great experiences at Lunds, but this night was different. It was dead in Lunds, it was after 1030pm. I find what I'm craving (their bakery is amazing, btw, and their bakers are so kind). Anyway, i go to the register where two employees are just chatting away. No acknowledgement from either of them. So i say, "Good evening, how are you both?" No response; they keep talking among themselves. (Imagine that) Then i say it again, Ray, the cashier who rung me up, still refuses to speak to me. Digg this... the one whi did was the Supervising Manager! I guess the lack of customer service trickles down from the top. Obviously, she was okay w/his poor service and he was comfortable delivering poor service in front of her. I just shook my head and was in disbelief. Going to this Lund's is like going to Sunday school. I swear. My boyfriend got The Dirty Look when he went into Lund's to find us a nice bottle of wine last Sunday afternoon. The store worker sternly told him that he shouldn't be trying to buy wine because it's Sunday, and then informed him that grocery stores don't carry wine. We just moved into town and recently found out that the alcohol laws in Minnesota/Minneapolis are different. Whatever the laws, I expect at least a little respect -- or at least a benefit of the doubt -- for a customer who asks about alcohol, on Sunday or on Friday. The location of this store has got to be its best feature. I usually find myself stopping by to grab something I forgot or need on my way to a friend's, like flowers. The other day, I stopped in for watermelon. Because The Wedge was completely out of watermelon on Sunday. I was determined to find a good watermelon. So I asked the first produce guy who was stocking fruit about how to pick a good watermelon. He confessed he didn't know. Although I appreciated the honesty I wished he had the knowledge. He approached another produce guy and asked him my question. Same answer, I don't really know. I was beginning to feel disappointed when he said he would be willing to slice one open and let me have a taste. Delighted, I agreed. It ended up that the watermelon looked great but tasted not so great so I ended up not spending $6.99 for it. The offer to taste fruit is something The Wedge regularly offers and I expect it there. But getting this service at Lunds was unexpectedly over the top, and Tim is the produce guy responsible for this very pleasing surprise. I left with a very good, very satisfied feeling. Honestly, I don't even know how to rate a grocery store. I guess as long as they have the items that I'm looking for, I'm good! The store is clean and nicely laid out. They do have an amazing olive bar, cheese counter, and bakery. I keep meaning to try their meals too - the salad bar and sushi looks good. Since this is my go-to store and I use my grocery shopping as a break from work, I am here quite often. And overall, it is always a good experience, however, I have noticed 2 consistently aggrevating things: 1. The Meat counter Experience: I'm like the social outcast that the cool kids don't want to talk to. Seriously - there are almost always a small army of employees around, behind, or next too the counter. They are talking, laughing, and restocking things. They even walk past me. Yet I'm always standing there, basket in hand, waiting patiently for someone to acknowlege me. Often, during that time waiting, i'm no longer deciding on my purchase, i'm deciding if i should speak up or walk away. Vegetarians don't deal with this - another benefit! 2. The Celery sucks. Always. I have no idea how you make celery suck so bad, but my theory is that they have it brought in, frozen. It thaws in the case and then is wimpy and limp. And rarely tastes like celery. Even the organic isn't that great. Maybe that is typical of grocery chains, I'm not sure. Not a total deal breaker, but something to be aware of. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with Lunds. I love grocery shopping, probably because I love cooking and eating food. Go figure. I live about a block away from Lunds, but I only go there if I need something for dinner, I need to use their Wells Fargo ATM, I have looked at the buy one get ones or I don't want to drive to Rainbow and lose my parking spot on the Mall. Lunds is conveniently located and the store is laid out very nicely. I tend to find what I am looking for faster at Lunds than any other grocery store, which I believe this is because they carry fewer brands and their signs at the end of the aisles are more helpful. When I walk into the store I like to grab their free Organic & Natural magazine to get new recipes. (You can find this magazine by the door near the flowers) While a lot of their food is more expensive they do have some good specials. They have buy one get one free offers every week, and if you sign up for their weekly newsletter you get a special offer every week. They also have have $4.99 sushi Wednesdays (this is my favorite). Another nice thing about Lunds is that they bring in local produce and they mark it with a sign to let you know that is local. I also enjoy their cheese selection and the free cheese samples. This is the closest grocery store to my house. I have consistently gone there and received lettuce with bugs on it even though I complained to the management this still seems to be happening. Another time I went I found a hair inside of the deli macaroni. And I have also received expired meat from this establishment. I just really enjoy this place! I love the fact that this store is on the smaller side and not such an overwhelming huge "box store". This is a well laid out and organized store. Being a local company makes me feel good about spending my money here. I would only say that they could improve a bit on customer service, I don't get the feeling this is a major focus for the entire team. I've had some great service experiences but not 100%. Maybe I'm just feeling extra price sensitive today, but after perusing the deli salads and individual quiche slices, I have to say the portions seemed smaller on the quiche for the same price I normally pay and the salads were more dinero. Don't get me wrong...it's a nice grocery store, but I prefer other outlets of it. Having this Lunds in the heart of Uptown was a great business move. It's convenient, has great produce and has an ample selection of other staples. Like all the lunds and byerly's stores, the grocery department is marked up higher than other grocery stores. Their produce is worth the extra costs, so is the deli and bakery, but if you can hold off on buying cereal, chips, etc for somewhere else, I would do it. That said, when they have their Buy 1 get 1 free sales, it's a GREAT deal on grocery items and other items throughout the store. They have a great flower department that greets you upon entering the store, along with a Caribou Coffee location in store. There is a cozy upstairs area with tables and chairs for eating or meeting up with friends. It's also in this area where you'll find all the magazines and books they have for sale, it's kind of set up like a little Barnes and Noble inside a grocery store. Upstairs, there is also a Red Box machine for renting DVD's. I love Lund's! One of my favorite grocery stores in the metro, I usually come here to buy produce and treat myself to pre-made items like pasta salads or drool over the meat and cheese counters. They also offer some really tasty bakery items. They also tend to have a more unique selection of grocery items than other stores (like Rainbow). The store itself is always very clean and well-organized. I get distracted by the beautiful orchids displayed right by the entrance/exit and am always tempted to bring another home with me. What I don't love about Lund's are their prices. If I could afford to shop here at every grocery excursion, I would. Unfortunately Lund's is one of those places I frequent every once in a great while when I have the dough to spare. They do have some pretty good sales, so if you watch them closely you can save a few bucks on quality items. read more

Great urban grocery store that can easily be reached via car, bus, bike, or on foot. They have a wide selection of grocery products, as well as a really nice floral department, bakery, deli, prepared hot foods, and magazine/greeting card section too. There is also an ATM on site for added convenience. The grocery bagging and carry out service is a bonus too. read more
