Strange to find this Latin restaurant way out in the boonies. The food is almost really good. I'm not sure why every Latin restaurant in the area chooses to dumb the food down instead of keeping it authentic. I might go back again if it were closer. Absolutely amazing Mexican food!! Went this past weekend and there was no wait time, service by our server Cat was prompt and friendly, and the wide range of menu items was a "good" problem to have!! Lol Personally, I want to really thank the owner Clay and our server Cat. Both made me at ease with finding allergy "safe" foods my son could eat and were patient with my questions concerning preparation. Loved it and he was able to have several kid friendly foods like fries, tortilla chips fried in canola oil, guacamole,and tortillas with dinner. THANK YOU!!!! Definitely going again and again!! Tried LunaZul for the first time today for dinner. We had the Parrilla Grande. It was amazing! The steak, chicken and shrimp were prepared to perfection. The guacamole was to die for! I don't remember the name of the dessert we had, it was fried dough covered in cinnamon and sugar with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream! YUM! We had the pleasure of meeting not only the owner, but also the executive chef. Our server was helpful and did a great job! We will be back for sure!! read more

I have been here several times and I'm so thankful that Hampstead has a a quality Mexican restaurant like LunaZul. My wife and I have tried many selections from the menu, quesadillas, and the specials. I'm writing this during the COVID-19 crisis (2020) and they now have an abbreviated carryout menu, but when I visited pre-COVID-19, I was very satisfied with everything I tried on their menu. I got to meet the principal-owner and he told me how he had a previous popular Mexican restaurant in Westminster in the Cranberry Mall/Town Mall of Westminster, and when the enclosed-mall started to lose its heavy foot traffic of regular mall shoppers, understandably he had to find another location, and I'm so glad he set up shop in Hampstead. The food is prepared with care and flair, and packed with flavor! I am a regular and will keep supporting this great local restaurant! read more

First time here and new experience as I'm sitting and ordered I notice this is one of the few Mexican styled restaurants that does not serve chips and salsa (kinda one of the reasons we all go to them), not sure if the owners are trying to stay authentic as they do in Mexico. Even most sit down restaurants serve breads butter, or brand and oils etc..... As I'm not a regular but a passing by hungry person on a Sunday. It would be nice to have something like chips and salsa. Which I like to use salsa with my food I ordered. Just one man's opinion. The meal - is was very good except for the taco with the meal. It tastes like ground-beef, cheese, and a taco shell. Usually you have blend of Mexican herbs & spices for a great flavor. I'm trying to be mean here but the taco kits at the grocery store have more flavor added to your beef your browning. I'd change the way I'd flavor the beef for tacos at least. Atmosphere- the music makes it seem more of a Mexican restaurant and a few hanging lamp shades. Other than that it feels like a Bar that serves Mexican food. Not a Mexican restaurant that serves alcohol. Service - young teenagers & adults. They seem to be more worried about being outside or on their phone talking to each other. Than checking on their customers. I was served my meal finished and the manager/owner he had to come take my plate. Then waited another 10-15 minutes for my waitress to bring the bill. The staff isn't quite up to par!! Which seems the manager/owner isn't too in touch with customers or staff. It's a slow Sunday I get it but there's me and 1 couple in here and I count the manager/owner, 1 bar person, and 2-3 waitresses, and I'm not sure cook staff. Unless this place gets slammed in the next few hours or towards dinner time. Way over staffed and they don't interact with customers much. I'm still waiting as I type this for the same waitress to take the check and my credit card. She's decided to sweep the floor and do other things other than notice her customer. There's lots of staff here for such a small place. The manager/owner took my plate yet he sees I'm finished but does he come to take the check or tell he's waitress...... no End result - not my kinda place. Won't be returning if ever back in this small town. To respond to you as an owner that wasn't at your restaurant at that time. I wasn't served chips and salsa I was barley acknowledged the entire time. The male manager even went outside twice to get the "staff" to come in and clean tables and arrange them back in order. The reason I brought up the chips and salsa is because I didn't see anyone including the couple at the bar and the only other couple at a table with zero chips and salsa. Your staff and yourself should review your video security if you have them. Then I say you'd be apologizing for your comments here. The waitress barely came back to see if I needed anything your manager/owner/husband? Had to finally walk by and take my finished plates and had to wait a long time just to get a check to pay. Your wait staff was all outside doing what have no idea. Your manager/owner was seating in a both in front of me close to the bar with his phone and paperwork. He again had to go outside and bring them in. I didn't even get refill on my ice tea. So to be honest your staff lied and I never was served chips and salsa (any video in your restaurant would prove that). I have no reason to misrepresent the truth and have no motives to do so. I don't live in your area nor care one way or the other. I was just stating what took place. So if you have video security which I do believe you do and it holds at least 30 days of video. We had a rough start toward celebrating my daughter's birthday on the weekend before St. Patrick's Day (March 9th). The original plan was O'Lordan's but they were completely booked with no end in sight for a party of 8 adults. Next was Fratelli's where they kept us waiting for an hour and a half and then when we quizzed them on how long it would be, they were annoyed and told us it would be another hour and a half. After searching Yelp, we found LanaZul! We walked in and were immediately greeted and seated in this wonderfully decorated restaurant even though they were quite busy. Everyone was thrilled with their food. No one had even a minor complaint. I wish we'd started here! It was fantastic and I highly recommend that you try it. Really glad LunaZul came to the area. Went there for the first time tonight and tried four things from the Tapas menu: Chili Relleno, Torta, Huarache and Chorizos. Everything was amazing. The Tapas menu is perfect for sharing and trying new things. The Tres Leches cake was delicious for dessert. The service was excellent. Meh. So overpriced for what you get. Chicken was super dry, drinks tasted like they had no alcohol in them, quesadilla was like a half portion. Don't usually leave reviews but wow, pretty disappointing, especially when you can get much better Mexican food pretty much anywhere else for less money. A plate of nachos, 1 order of tacos, 1 quesadilla, and one margarita ran us about $60, and it's not like the portions were big either. I had expectations of having a typical Maryland Mexican restaurant experience when we went to LunaZul. I was blown away! It's ACTUAL Mexican food, guys! They make their own chips (and they're amazing)! The salsa that went with it was just ok, but the chips more than made up for it. We ordered from the tapas menu and everything was really good. We had a stuffed pepper and a chicken tamal which was really good. I had heard that they had horchata on the menu at one point, but they don't serve it any more. I wish they would bring it back because I'd be there all the time haha. Don't hesitate to try this place, it really is a keeper! read more

We love this place! In a town that desperately needs some restaurant diversity, LunaZul provides a fantastic option for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is awesome, and the food is just as good. True, authentic Mexican that tastes delicious every time. They are always trying new salsa recipes, each of which have been delicious. The fajitas are our go-to, but nothing on the menu will disappoint! There is always an open table, and the service has always been good. This is the last place I would go for Mexican food. It is so over-rated. The food is flavorless, the service mediocre at best, and the prices completely too high for the quantity and quality of the food. So disappointing!!!! Read all the great reviews and thought, finally, we'll have a decent Mexican restaurant where we can eat-in on this side of the county. Forget about it. If you want good, authentic Mexican food, go to Del Huerto in Westminster, or Taqueria de Guacamole in Finksburg. Wow what a total disappointment! I have no clue how this restaurant has 4 stars unless the previous reviewers have never eaten Mexican / Tex-Mex before. We ordered takeout, driving 25 minutes due to all the positive reviews and needing to get out of quarantine and what a waste of a trip! We ordered tacos and fajitas with the table side guacamole and queso. The ground beef tacos had NO seasoning. Just beef and salt with boring toppings. 8 tacos for $20 and get this, NO sides. No rice and beans, no cheese, no salsa. Just 8 small tacos for $20. Next up is the chicken fajitas. $18 for these babies and just as boring as the tacos. These however did come with rice and beans. About 2 tablespoons of each... We also ordered queso, which was literally melted Velveeta in a tub for $8. All that with one small bag of chips and NO salsa. Add a couple of drinks and the whopping total was $100. Wishing we had just gone to our local fast food taco establishment instead for a quarter of the price. Big pass on this place! read more

I went in by myself. It was noisy. There is nothing in this place to absorb any sound. Not much décor at all. The booths did not provide much comfort so I opted to sit at the bar. Well that was even less comfortable; it came up to my chest/shoulders & again no comfort on the seat. At this point, it just wasn't going to get a rating of nice & cozy. I was thinking like a Dan Pablos Margharita...big, tall, strong, flavorful & colorful. Ah, nah. It was this slushy with cheap tequila. I had to get a shot of real tequila just to try & bring some life into it. It was 7 bucks w/o the shot, and it wasn't big. I would need a small pitcher of those but that wasn't happening. Kind of looked run by very young kids. Food was relative good, however, I was just not feeling the 'yeee haaa' vibe. Sorry guys...needs a bit of improvements for me. read more

Nice Addition in an area lacking in variety. Went with a rather large group of 6 which included two small children wasn't a problem as the place is relatively loud because it's not that big however the size is perfect in my opinion. Heard Rumblings from folks that were there that night that the place was undersized but to me it was just right intimate and a good time. Has now been a total of 3 times. Twice dining in and once carry out and in my opinion it's only worth going if you're going to dine in. the carryout experience was average at best. read more

I really want to like this place, I do. It's a beautiful restaurant. The servers are friendly. The food is decent. Why can't I like it? It's because it's the slowest service I've ever experienced. Plan on waiting a very long time for any food. Maybe have a snack before coming. The food is more Tex-mex, and doesn't have any spice. Flavors are a bit bland as well. I think if you want Mexican food and don't want to drive to Cinco in Westminster, this place will do. But honestly, as slow as it is you could drive to Westminster and eat at Cinco faster than it would be at this place. I hope they do something to improve, and if not, I hope they're doing enough to cater to the people that like this place. I would hate to see another store in Hampstead close. read more

LunaZul has opened in Hampstead, Maryland today. This beautiful and carefully designed Mexican restaurant is amazing. From the décor to the food you will enjoy the experience while getting an authentic taste of Mexico. This place captivated me from the moment I walked it. It has a rustic contemporary design. Very modern and elegant. Casual attire is accepted so no need to worry. I started with the Elote Asado (Grilled Corn) absolutely beautiful presentation (please see photos I uploaded) the flavor was amazing. Great combination of spices that leaves your taste buds wanting more. For my main course I tried the "Milpa Soup" for those of you who love beans this option is the way to go. It's combined with Chicharrón de Puerco (Pork rind) and Queso Fresco (Fresh Cheese) To give it that smooth savory taste in every bite a sliced up Jalapeño is added to the bowl . To finish I had a traditional Flan (Caramel Custard) that I know you will enjoy (I will be leaving my Flan review on my website: MyFlan.com) My experience has been wonderful at LunaZul with the great customer service from the staff. My server "Cat" went beyond expectations to make sure my dining experience was memorable at LunaZul. The Executive Chef "Jorge" personally came out to make sure everything was 100% satisfying which was a great feeling as many restaurants you don't always get to meet the Chef behind the food. Coming from a family that has spent over 30 years in the restaurant business and having many friends who own restaurants I had my share of food experiences. We visited the restaurant last night. The food is very good, the service was good though they seemed a little understaffed. The waitress was very nice. They keep the place very clean. The fried plantains were as good as the ones from Costa Rica! The main downside was the place is very loud and noisy. Not a place to go for a quiet relaxing night out with the family or a date. I could hardly hear my self think. Next time I will consider carry out. They however had no carry out menus when asked. Lastly, the bathrooms are limited. First, I have to say the food is very delicious. However, for the food and portions that you get, it is very overpriced and I'm a little worried that it won't last in Hampstead. We have eaten here twice and the food and dessert was excellent, the plates however are too small. My husband could not cut his steak in the tiny little bowl his food was served in. They also had one booster seat for the whole restaurant and the high chairs are so low that the kids can't reach the table to eat. Our male server was excellent however when I asked for limes for my tacos, a female server brought me one single slice of lime in her hand! No plate, no bowl, just handed me a slice of lime! There are a lot of good things here but they need to work on a lot too. I'm hoping they last in town but I can go to Westminster for better service and cheaper prices. read more

Great surprise in our little town. Driven by the place for months and finally decided to check it out. Thought it was a carry out place, but full restaurant with good vibe and apparently they have live music on occasions. Service was very attentive and food was fantastic. Lots of unique flavors, never thought pomegranate and poblano peppers would pair well but I am now a believer. Been waiting for a quality Latin restaurant around here.
