I usually go to the other location, but after a long work week of being short staffed & adjusting to the time change, my body was so achy, sore, and exhausted. I try to schedule my massages monthly with the subscription. I love how Luminous has a text line with same day responses. I texted them Friday to see if they possibly had any appointments this weekend; just my luck- they did! However, it wasn't at the original location with my go to masseuse, but I took the chance at this one. I'm so happy I did! I hadn't checked the yelp reviews for this location until now... after I just got home from my massage with Stephanie. My instant reaction was to leave a big tip & 5 star review. Wow...they really fixed me! Alicia had the perfect pressure but also considerate of my pain level. She was super friendly and I naturally felt at ease with her. I booked a couples massage at this location since their main location did not have availability on the date and time I wanted. Parking lot was full so I parked a block away on a residential street. We were offered mimosas before the massage. The tables are on opposite sides of the room so you and your partner are not that close to each other, although it's not a big deal since you're not looking or communicating with your partner during the massage anyways. I was asked how much pressure and if there were any areas they should focus on. They did a great job on my knots. Our session was exactly one hour. I felt sore the next morning but my back feels less stiff. You can't beat the prices here. I got the Lumi Blend treatment which is a 1 hour facial and 1 hour massage for $199. They have $10 add-ons like an upgrade to deep tissue, hot stones, CBD oil, etc. The only drawback is the ambiance at the original Luminous was much nicer. Lumi 2 was no frills, just a few seats, water and tea and the lockers were in the restrooms. But what it lacks in luxury, it more than makes up in value! read more

I had such a wonderful time at Luminous 2! The location was very clean, aesthetic, and quiet. They have a small parking lot right outside of the store. You will be greeted by their front desk on the first floor and then you take an elevator to the massage floor. They offered complimentary water, tea, and peach bellinis! It was such a nice detail and it made me feel extra pampered. We booked a couples massage, so we got a larger room. It was spacious and very tastefully decorated. The temperature was nice and I felt relaxed. The deep tissue massage was a little different from what I am used to, the massage therapist used her finger strength more throughout the session. I liked it for the arm and leg massage, but not so much for the back and shoulder portion. I was thankful that she was so nice and took my feedback into account and modified accordingly. My husband and I came in for a couples massage and we walked out feeling absolutely AMAZING. Tao was my masseuse and she was an expert in applying just the right amount of pressure to the areas that I had the most pain - should blades, neck, and lower back. She spent most of the time on my back as I had requested but still made sure to get in a scalp and face massage - my favorite! My husband is usually pretty jaded when it comes to getting massages - he either gets people who don't apply enough pressure or that apply so much pressure he walks away bruised. However, the masseuse that he got (can't remember her name unfortunately) was great and exerted just the right amount of pressure in the areas that he needed it most. He had opted into getting CBD cream as part of his massage which seemed to also help with some muscle aches he had been experiencing. I've seen a couple of the other people here but prefer Elaine, she's amazing. Luminous 2 is upstairs, elevator or stairs. It's a tight space but pretty, and feels spacious enough that it's not claustrophobic. Rooms are nice, it's off Grand but not too noisy, just slightly. Tables comfortable, nice music. Again, I prefer Elaine because she is the master (mistress?) of deep tissue. Though she can also give a soft massage if that's really what you want. (She will let you know where your knots are regardless). Tip her well, I usually do $40 for the hour but that's me. read more

I was recommended this place by a friend, and I can see why. Upon first impression, I didn't think it was located in the best part of SSF, however upon entering, the interior and layout more than made up for that. The counter is located on the bottom floor and there is an elevator (or stairs take your pick) that leads you up to the massage rooms, restrooms and lounge where there is water and tea in a room with dimmed lighting to help change the senses and allow you relax while you wait for your treatment. Though small, this ambiance made it feel like Burke Williams spa without the huge space and amenities, which is pretty impressive for a small business. Elaine was my masseuse and it was such a delight to have her. She told me that I had knots in my back for years and where I have previously been going to didn't take care to roll them out. While I signed up for the Swedish massage, I complained that there wasn't enough pressure and she switched me to a deep tissue massage without extra charge. I definitely felt refreshed after the massage and that she had done real work on my tense back. She said upon return to request for her (I certainly will given this experience). In my opinion, small business done right; they leave you wanting more. I can see why they opened up this second location. I will be back and hope to have the opportunity to experience the first location for comparison. Lastly, though I thought their rates were steep compared to SoCal, they do provide employee discounts, referral discounts and a plethora of other options to make this more affordable. read more

I came in with a little bit of a standard and when I left, this place exceeded my expectations. :D Shelly, the front lady was super nice and friendly when I booked my couples appointment massage. I wasn't sure if I was going to come in time for my 4pm appointment so I called in and said I might be 5-10 minutes late (fortunately we weren't), and she was very understanding about it. It's kind of fancy that they have an elevator to bring us up to the 2nd floor where the rooms are, and immediately we were greeted with a really relaxing site of the waiting room and complimentary tea and water. I called Luminous 2 and they were able to book me t that same afternoon. When you walk in, you are immediately greeted with a calming spa atmosphere. It is very quiet and peaceful, with the smell of essential oils gently floating through the air. Check in downstairs then head upstairs for your massage. I told my masseuse to focus on my lower back and explained that I was having cramps and soreness. She was amazing! She started with my lower back, then applied a heated pad to my back as she performed work on the rest of my body, then finished up with my lower back again. Once the San Mateo County SIP order was rescinded, I was truly needing some relief! This was my first time visiting Luminous after reading good reviews for this and their other spa. I decided to book an hour massage and hour facial special. I was only able to get the massage on this visit but I have scheduled my facial for later. This place is casual and relaxed, no glitz and glamour. They have good precautions like temperature scan, washing hands before and after treatment, and everyone must wear a mask (you will need to wear one while facing up, then can remove it). My therapist was Samantha. She was amazing! She asked me if I had focus areas and told her my neck, shoulders, and lower back, but it was a full body massage. The massage was a good combination of Swedish and deep tissue. There were moments I tensed up but no pain, no gain! She really worked out those knots, and I knew my body "kneaded" it, haha! My back is sore right now but it feels good! With that being said, I highly recommend Sam! She has a chill vibe and knows what she's doing, and I'll definitely be booking her moving forward. I had multiple spa places but this place reasonably priced. I had originally booked a mingle event and massage for 4 people without a hitch but then we had to add another person. Dee and Bruna were working with me to find options for this fifth person. They were very cooperative and understanding that I wanted to include everyone. We ended up getting the fifth person a different kind of service. Dee was in contact with me until the day of the event. We were greeted with romantically dimmed room with a happy birthday sign, drinks, and pastries. They took the time to personalize the room. My friends instantly were in awe. The whole Luminous crew took care of all 5 of us. I felt pretty VIP. Everyone was super nice and all my friends had nice things to say about their masseuse. All in all we had a great time. I grabbed 2 slots for my friend and I on a Sunday and we had a very pleasant experience. I've been fortunate enough to have been to quite a few spas before and sometimes facilities are very nice but the quality of the massage is lacking. In this case, once you are transported into the room it was an amazing, relaxing, restorative experience. My masseuse (Stephanie) did some of the best work I've experienced and I left feeling so much better! I, like many others, work at a desk all day and it really takes a toll on your back and neck. Literally just had the best massage of my life with Stephanie and here's the reasons why: 1. She asked me what bothered me and what I'd like to focus on.
