Unfortunately, I cannot speak for the services; this review solely relates to the scheduling process. I have never written a negative review but thought that my experience might be beneficial for others to read as they are deciding where to book an appointment for spa services. I had an appointment scheduled for a Saturday at 9:45am. At 9:17am, while I was en route to my appointment, I received a call from the owner that she was having car troubles and that she was waiting for AAA and would be in late but expected to be there soon. I had brunch plans later that day and did not want to go to the appointment and wait, given that the timing of the resolution of the car issues was uncertain. I was unable to come in later that day and the owner did not have her appointment book with her at that time, so we couldn't confirm an appointment for the following week. We agreed that we would reschedule the appointment for another time. It was an inconvenience for me, but I understand that people have car troubles, particularly in the winter in New England. I called a few times the following week; no one picked up, and I was unable to leave a message, as the mailbox was full. After ultimately getting through on the phone, the owner, Rosana, disputed that she called me the day of the appointment, and is saying that she was there that day and that no one in the spa had car issues. This is clearly contrary to my experience, not to mention my phone log (the call was coming from them to me, not the other way around). She indicated that because I had called them and I had been running late on the day of the appointment (again, it was the other way around), I could reschedule for a $25 rescheduling fee. I was honestly shocked by this, given the inconvenience that they initially caused me and that they were then turning around and saying that I had been the one who had called in. I had hoped that my calls with the owner would have resolved the situation, but alas, that is not the case. I am not out any money, but was just inconvenienced and then made to feel like a liar. Again, this is very surprising to me. I hope that others have better luck with their scheduling. The other reviews on here speak for Lumiere's services themselves, which I cannot attest to, due to their car issues that they are saying never happened. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!! If you got a deal from Groupon then you really get what you paid for, which is a dingy building, terrible and unprofessional service. I found a good deal on Groupon for a couples massage for $72. I made an appointment a week ago. When that day came, I drove 35 mins in the snow for my appointment. When I got there, this old lady told me that I did not confirm my appointment within 24 hours so she cannot massage us. Wtf???! I told them where in the website does it say you must confirm? She then says it cost $25 to reschedule and I'm like that's BS!! She said it was company policy and tells us to leave. Wasted my time and gas. Bottom line, do not come here. I can't say enough about the service I received! I had a chemical peel at a Newbury St salon a week prior to going to Lumiere with absolutely no changes to my skin. No peeling or flaking! I learned about Lumiere from a Groupon & spoke to Rosanna about my skin. She recommended microdermabrasion to remove what the chemical peel had started. Rita performed the microdermabrasion & also performed a miracle for a fraction of what I paid for nothing at the Newbury St salon!! She spent so much time, pampering me for hours (it was 1 hour, but felt like much more!) My skin feels fantastic & I love how it looks & feels! I can't wait to return for more services. Don't waste your $ on overpriced Boston spas... Lumiere is a gem!! I have to add to my rave review!!! I've now been back 2 more times, have had 2 eyebrow tintings & another microdermabrasion. Go if you Can! Had the best massage ever. I had an appointment this morning, and was met with Rosana. She was great. Upon arrival i was offered tea and water. Took the tea. It was cold, hot tea totally helped. I was led into the massage room, it was the perfect ambiance. Dimly lit, soft music, great scent. The massage was AMAZING!!. Just the perfect touch and pressure. Got rid of my many knots on my back, and legs. I highly recommend this place if you looking for a great massage. read more

Poor communication. I love finding things that is dealing to do with my husband. My husband and I went for the couples massage. We never been to this spa before. Our massage was supposed to be 75 minutes and the lady told us to arrive at 3:45. When we went in the room to begin our massage the massage therapist asked how long is your massage supposed to be, which was weird. Then, they didn't even do a massage for 75 minutes and expect us to pay it was 45 minutes and then when I asked the manager why the massage was short and she said that we didn't arrive on time nor did she say that we should've come earlier and it was our first time get a massage. They should have communicated to us the produce and even out of courtesy that it would be shortened. The manager was rude and completely not understanding. read more

As some who works in the hospitality industry, I understand 100% that things always happen that are beyond your control (clients are late, therefore you are running behind for your next appointment). When Lumiere Day Spa called to cancel my appointment, not once, not twice but three times (all within an hour to my appointment) I was not upset, I was annoyed because I kept looking forward to my massage but I was not upset. The last time they called to cancel "postpone" my appointment, they were kind enough to offer me an extra service (pedicure, extra time for my massage), of my choice as an apology to cancelling my appointment for the third time. I was thrilled to see that they were really trying to make things better. Once I showed up, the lady who greeted me (based on her accent I will say that her first language was Portuguese), she started of very nice until I mentioned how I was also getting a complimentary service .... She went on to tell me that I was not going to get any complimentary service because they were just too busy & they wouldn't honor this any other day. She said that they were very popular & they always had plenty of clients & this is why they cancelled me the previous times. I was made feel like such a jerk for asking about the complimentary service, they had offered me in the first place (it was like I was in an episode of the twilight zone)!! The place is extremely clean (and that's #1, in my book) the service is wonderful - Rosa is very knowledgeable about skin care and the price is perfect! STAY AWAY. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. The woman who runs this place has NO idea what she is doing. Very hard to schedule the appointment, they never answer the phone or e-mails. I got a Groupon for a Couple's Massage, which I thought would be nice for my boyfriend and I. Total waste of our time. Took forever to book and then I got screwed over in the end. So, here's what happened.. I tried and tried to get a hold of someone so I could book an appointment, via phone and e-mails.. for weeks. I finally get a response via e-mail. I asked if I could schedule for that Saturday. She said "Do you want to come this Saturday?". I asked if she had a 3:00? She responded a day later with "For this Saturday?" Then when I responded with "Yes, this Saturday. Do you have 3:00 for this Saturday?", and she wrote back another day later "Please call 781 3540750" What a waste of time. So I was back to square one again. Trying to call and getting no answers. Finally got an answer the following week. Tried to make an appointment for that Saturday.. she said they are not open Saturdays..? Oooookay. (Why would she even ask in the e-mail? It also clearly says Saturdays 8:00-5:00 everywhere for their hours). So I asked her what the latest appointment was on a Friday that I could take. She booked me for a 7:00 a few months later. So my boyfriend and I were really looking forward to getting a massage together. That Friday finally comes along, I'm at work, and I see a couple voicemails from Lumiere in the morning. The voicemails saying that I was LATE for my 10:00 appointment. (????) I called her back saying I had no idea what she was talking about, and explained that I had an appointment for 7:00 that night, not 10:00am?? She said she had me down for 10am, and they waited ALL morning for me to show up and that I owed her a cancellation fee now. WHAT!! I said that there was no way I would schedule something during my work hours, and she refused to believe me. She said that they would've never scheduled a 7:00 because they aren't here that late. SERIOUSLY?? Their hours clearly say Friday 8:30am-9:00pm, and she TOLD ME ON THE PHONE that was the latest appointment I could book for!! ALSO.. I thought normal businesses call and confirm with customers the day before, to avoid mistakes like this from happening? I got nothing. So.. what they do at Lumiere is they mess up scheduling on their end and then say you owe them a cancellation fee. How ridiculous is that? What a total waste of months of my time. Anyway, I refused. I received the Reflexology, which including oil and gorgeous Hot Rocks! Rosanna is incredibly talented and got me to my own peaceful island with tropical breezes of colorful ribbons of every perfect shade, which enveloped me, taking out the buildup of stress induced anxiety! I purchased a set of 3 microderm facials and received my first about 2 months ago. It was truly one of the worst facials I have ever received. My skin broke out non stop for 2 weeks after the service. I chalked this up to the inexperience of the facialist (I could do a better facial at home) and the sub par products they used on my face (these are not spa quality products, rather the same cheap junk you can buy at homegoods). I decided to give them another chance, this time requesting a different facialist and bringing my own products (organic, non-toxic, and not full of chemical fillers). When making the reservation I specified that I would be brining my own products, which I was told was fine. When I showed up today and provided the new facialist with my products I was rudely told said that she would not use my products and not perform the facial. I was asked to leave and told I was I not welcome back for the 2 remaining facials I had purchased. If you've never had facials or been to high end spas, you will likely think this place is fine. For anyone who is used to proper customer service, skilled staff, and quality products, this is not the place for you. Avoid and save yourself the headache and shitty skin! read more

I found this place via Groupon to get lash extensions done. I had done some research prior to going, and didn't ask them ahead of time if they used individual or cluster lashes because on the Groupon highlight is said "Stylists apply individual lashes..." However was very disappointed when the stylist had already started and said it would take less than an hour. I knew then that she'd be using cluster. But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised since it was only $60. My lashes were somewhat uneven, height and fullness wise. They definitely look more like strip lashes too. The first day after my cluster extensions were applied, I had one cluster fall out. I decided to invest in some Ardell glue since I was traveling and didn't want there to be bald spots. Booking was also a let down. I called booked it easily, then they called e back saying they had to move it 1/2 hour earlier. So I get to the place, there is no receptionist. I see someone walk into a room and no one comes out for 10 minutes. I get up look at the desk for maybe a bell to ring or something and see a clip board with hand written appointments. They wrote down my appointment for 1/2 hour later than my original so now I'm an hour early! I should have just walked out right then and there. BUT I waited, thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it had just been a miscommunication on my part. I would be honest to admit that but after hearing and repeating the time back on the phone, I would have the time correct. Once someone saw me waiting, she looked confused and called the woman who was going to do my lashes, who walked in the door 5 minutes later. At this point I really should have just left, but c'est la vie. One last disclaimer, this is not a lash salon strictly, they are mainly a massage spa. According to all the research done, this was not the way I should have gone about this process. Individual lashes look way better and had a real technician do it. But I tried it and would just go to a real lash place and pay more for better results and better booking. But I also didn't give them this feedback face-to-face, so take this passive-aggressive review with a grain of salt because to each their own. read more

Nice ladies working there, the facial was very relaxing (except for the nose pores squeezing part, I had a lot of dirt to be removed from there I fear) and the brief hand massage while having nice smelling lotion left on my face for a bit was a nice little extra touch. I purchased a groupon for a facial with microdermabrasion and have been calling this spa nonstop (during the day and evening) to book an appointment but no one answers the phone. I also left an email early in the week and still no response. On my day off I decided to go to the spa and see if they had any availability but the doors were locked and it didn't look like anyone was there even though their hours are 8:30am to 9pm. It's disappointing as I was really looking forward to it but I feel like I just got scammed out of my money. Customer service needs to be highly improved. Don't recommend. read more

I came to Lumiere Day Spa in Lynn, MA for a full set of eyelash extensions. I looked up the salon, read the reviews (could not find any reviews for eyelashes though), but nonetheless, trusted that I'd be in good, professional hands. I called the salon owner, Rosanna while I was on my way there and asked if she'd honor the Groupon price for eyelash extensions if I paid her directly in the salon, and she said yes. I arrived at Lumiere, and I asked botth Rosabna and her "eyelash technician" if they have any photos of previous clients or past work that I could look at. She and her technician both respond, "oh no no no, we don't take or show pictures of our clients." So, I said, "Oh, okay, can I show you a picture on Google of the look I'm trying to achieve then?" And they both told me that they don't like to look at pictures because they'll never be able to accomplish the same thing as what you see in the picture. This immediately raised a red flag for me...I probably should've walked out the door right there and then. I asked which brand lashes they use, are they synthetic vs. mink, etc. They wouldn't tell me. So I ultimately decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I go into this very small, humid and hot room and lay on a bed with this technician who barely speaks English. She tells me it's going to take about four hours for the application, and that I should relax. She starts the application, and I kid you not, I can feel her tweezing my natural eyelashes out and inserting the individual extensions DIRECTLY onto my eyelid, not 1/4 of the way down the natural lash like any trained, knowledgeable lash artist would do. Even I know that this is improper technique! I told the technician that she was hurting me and that the glue was burning but she kept telling me that was normal, and that the glue was very powerful. Tears were rolling down my face because of the plucking and glue fumes. Every lash she put on was glued to the inner part of my eyelid. When she finished about 3 hours later, she had to use some sort of metal tool, I think they were tweezers, to open my eye because my eye had literally been glued shut!!!!! The owner came in and took a look and said how beautiful and natural my eyelash extensions looked. I finally looked in the mirror and was absolutely mortified. She used 14mm length lashes ALL THE WAY across my eyelid instead of staggering different lengths to create a natural looking lash line. There were globs of glue on my skin and natural lashes, and the lashes had NO movement at all. The lashes were extremely heavy. I could not blink all the way because the false lashes would poke the inside of my eyes. Rosanna, the owner, assured me repeatedly that what I was experiencing was completely normal, to which I responded that I definitely should NOT be in pain right now. My eyes were becoming more red and swollen by the minute. At the register, she refused to honor the Groupon price like she originally agreed to. Then when I asked for a receipt, she refused to give me one. Lumiere uses "Square" for their transactions, which I am familiar with. Luckily I was able to instruct her how to send myself a receipt, which she was very angry about. I got in my car, and my eyes hurt so badly that I had to pull over on the side of the road so that I could dab up the tears and try to distract myself from the pain. I called the salon repeatedly, they didn't pick up, and they disconnected their phone after the third time I called. This morning she called back, I explained my concerns, asked for my money back, and she flat out refused. She told me many of her new clients have the same thing happen to her, but that it's not her fault. She told me I should research lash extensions next time so that I "know what I'm getting myself into." I went back to the salon this morning to show her the damage she caused to my lashes and eyes, and she walked away carelessly. She told me to sue her and bring her to court if I really cared that much, but she still would not give me my money back. My advice, do not come here for her services. None of her employees are certified or licensed lash technicians, which I discovered this morning when I asked her to show me her licenses. She does not care about her clients, new or old. She just wants her money, then she wants you out her door. I will keep Yelp updated on any further interactions with this salon, as it has been reported and a legal case is underway. read more
