Corned Beef Hash and cheese grits
    Felicia D.

This is a beautiful restaurant and right in my neighborhood. My father used to bring me here in the 90s when they opened and I remember really enjoying the food. However, my experience today let me know I shouldn't patronize this business any more. Each time I've come here over the past few years, I've been unimpressed. Today this became increasingly clear. I ordered a corned beef hash meal with cheesy grits. As you can see from my photos, the grits came with a couple of slices of cheese over top, and not mixed in. Neither the grits nor the eggs had a lick of seasoning on them - no salt and no pepper. I added this myself at home. The pancakes were fairly tasty. I asked for blueberries to be added into the mix, for which I paid an additional $3. Overall, my experience was lackluster. My breakfast, with me adding cheese and blueberries, came to $22.23, which was way too expensive for the food I received. I just can't recommend Lumes, and I won't return.

Came in during the week at brunch hours between 10-1. Very quiet, not crowded, excellent customer service. I had an omelette, it was huge, you're definitely not going to eat much else with that. I wished I would've glanced at the specials before predictably ordering the same thing. They don't serve alcohol so you will be drinking juice lol.. the prices were reasonable and everything was served hot. I'd definitely come back. No complaints

Stopped here for a quick breakfast and was pleasantly surprised that I never dined here due to its proximity to my neighborhood. The place was full and there was still plenty of seating. I was promptly greeted and sat in a booth with a menu and a few specials. Decided to try the shrimp and grits since I hadn't eaten them outside the southeast. They exceeded my expectations. Service was fast and friendly, food hot and delicious. Definitely will return!

I tried this place (116th & Western location) for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I had no idea that it was a chain, until I went to write this review. Nice place: Good food, good service, for was delivered quickly and was freshly cooked. All in all, nice spot for breakfast.

One of my favorite breakfast spots. I try something new each time. Each time I'm left satisfied. The kids love the food & the coloring pages they have.

I ordered through Grubhub for pickup . It didn't take long-roughly 15-30 minutes. The place was pretty packed. The food was good. I especially liked the skillet. The ingredients seemed of good quality. I'd definitely make another purchase.

I've been here several times and it has always been a pleasant experience. Great breakfast spot and the service is always great. It can get crowded but it is worth the wait. I have never waited more than 10 mins. I always order a turkey bacon omelette with american cheese, Hash browns, and French Toast. I have had an issue with my order once where I got something completely different from what I normally order. But other than that I have had a good experience.

Custom Stained glass entry was a nice touch and shows the pride the owners have in their business!

I enjoyed breakfast. We were seated shortly. Clerks were getting the customers fed efficiently. I was trying to take my medicine and had to wait a long time for water. I told her to bring a pitcher so would not have to wait again. The food was tasty and portion size was good.

So when Hanabusa Cafe appeared on my search for brunch in DT Chicago it was a no brainer for me. I dragged my husband with me first thing in the morning so that we don't have to wait in line. Thank Goodness there was no line but the menu was a little confusing. They gave us a menu and we had to order in line first, and of course it being our first time here, we were attracted to the pictures and didn't notice the handwritten strawberry cream flavors (also our heads were down reading the menu rather than up looking at the TV advertising (which has the SC flavor - obviously we missed out on that). I had checked the menu on yelp before going and already knew I wanted the earl grey pancakes. When we got there, I saw that there were two favorites. I asked our teller which would he recommended between the fan-fav of Custard Vs the Earl Grey. His answer was "... well... they are very different flavors..." and that was as descriptive as he got -- so I just stuck with my Earl Grey. My husband told me I was being a butthole and why did I ask for their recommendation if I was only going to go with my original. I told him I asked for their thoughts and recommendations and he didn't really sell it to me, duh! I'm very aware that those are two different flavors but maybe if they can tell me more about the flavors and why he liked one over the other, I may have been sold. Be excited about what you sell/serve! Anyway. The husband had the plain and I had earl grey and no regrets. Only regret I had was not being able to go again before we had to leave Chicago and my husband's regret that he didn't see the strawberry cream earlier as he would have gotten that one. So don't miss out on that! 1 star down because service could have been better.

While I wasn't a big fan of the taste of my drink and dessert, my friend enjoyed both of theirs. Rather, the service was excellent and the views were amazing. My friend ordered The Rocher for dessert, which includes hazelnut cake, mascarpone chantilly, and smoked maldon salt. I ordered a Baked Alaska, consisting of citrus cake, lemon cream, toasted meringue, and salted white chocolate crunch. We both also ordered cocktails. I cannot recall the name of the drinks. I asked for my drink to be fruity and sweet, but it wasn't enough of either for me. The Baked Alaska was fine but too much of various flavors. I wouldn't fault the restaurant for the drink or dessert taste as I know others really enjoyed theirs. Our server was most attentive and very helpful. We found that making a reservation on Open Table only offered a certain number of time slots, and all of them involved having dinner and not just drinks or a dessert. Reservations can also be made on their website though we chose to speak to the front desk about a reservation. Going up to the bar is first come, first serve though. We ended up making an Open Table reservation and were told it was okay to only order drinks and desserts. Cindy's is named in honor of Marian "Cindy" Pritzker, a beloved Chicago philanthropist. It sits on top of the 13th floor of the hotel under a glass atrium and offers views of Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, and beyond. Cindy's Rooftop is open Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 11 PM, Friday from 11 AM to 12 Midnight, Saturday from 10 AM to 12 Midnight, and Sunday from 10 AM to 11 PM. I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

The atmosphere is genuinely pleasant -- bright, clean, and stylish without trying too hard -- but the food just doesn't live up to the setting.
