Food is amazing. My go to platter is the fried shrimp, yams and mac and cheese. I enjoy every bite of my meal when I get it. There's so much food and so much flavor. The shrimp are pretty big too. I definitely can't eat all of my food in one sitting. I've been wanting to try their banana pudding but, they only serve it on select days and I always miss it. Price is fair. Ordered the shrimp platter and a lake trout platter yesterday and total came out to $28. For the amount of food you get I think it's worth it. Parking lot is small as others have said but they have plenty of space across the street so I'd opt to park there instead of cramming in the lot. Downside: they never answer the phone. It's about a 20 min drive for me and I know wait times can get long so I'd like to order ahead but you call and call and no answer. I reached out to their IG account and they said they're working on getting the phones fixed and starting up and online ordering system so I'll be looking forward to that. read more

I feel like I just discovered a Charlotte gem coming here. It was absolutely AMAZING. I saw someone on Twitter mention they had the best crabcakes in Charlotte and decided to come ASAP. It is right down the street from Cuzzo's (another amazing place) and it is a small restaurant in the corner of the street. Thankfully we came before the dinner rush hit so our wait for our food was only 10 minutes and there was plenty of parking. Everything we ordered was perfectly made, hot, and tasty. The crabcakes really are the best crabcakes I've ever had around here. The yams were delicious and not too candied which is how I like them. Their Mac n cheese is wonderful and so was everything else, I really have no complaints or much to say other than to try them for yourself. Make sure to try their special Lulu's sauce too. The banana pudding was sooooooo good. They use chessman cookies instead of nila wafers and I will never make banana pudding with nila wafers again. Sign indicated they open at 12noon. I arrived and parked at 11:58 & was told to go back out until noon. My head spun at that, but gave in. At 12:02 people came out of nowhere and lined up to order. Service: the first young lady that gave me the time they opened was a bit abrupt. I chalked it to youthful indifference. Only 1 cashier but they do take cash and cards which is a plus. The owner bagged my to go order and was sweet as pie giving me utensils and 2 different sauces. Food: those crab fries are to die for. Very flavorful znd the sauce kicked ir up a notch. Honestly, I have been neglecting writing this review because they had such positive feedback and reviews - I thought I was a one off. However, we were just not impressed with this place. Me and my man decided to have a lunch date and picked this place as our meeting place. Parking is insane. Apparently there is an empty lot across the street you can also utilize but I didn't find this out until afterwards. It would behoove the business to put a sign somewhere stating additional parking is available in the empty lot across the street. Once I'm inside I already knew I wanted shrimp and grits but apparently it was at least a twenty minute wait time. So I was not able to pick that. I looked over the menu and for someone who had never been before - it was hard deciding. The menu's don't have descriptions of what each item is and i had no idea literally what they were. So I was asking questions and you get tired of asking questions. So we ended ordering a grilled fish sandwich, chicken wings with fries, fried shrimp with cabbage and mac and cheese. Our food took a long time to come out. A big group that came in about 7-10 minutes after us, had some of their food before we even had one of ours. I was pretty upset. They did apologize for our food taking so long, but that's not right. Especially since they came in after us. The order of chicken wings had four wings and a heaping amount of fries. The four wings - I wish I had taken a better picture, but two were completely baby size and the other two were normal size. Talk about mad. And the chicken itself had a weird flavor. Someone in another review said, maybe it was there grease. But I was there for lunch and if there chicken tasted like because of grease that early in the day, honey we got a problem - so let's hope it's not that. Anyways, we got said chicken wings because I wanted to try their Mumbo sauce with it. But being from the DMV area, eh - I was not impressed. It's very ketchup based and was not that great. Because our food took so long, me and my man only ate the chicken and fries and took our remaining food to go. When I got back to work, I tried the fried shrimp and yellow rice. My rice was hard and undercooked but decently flavored. I just couldn't eat it. The shrimp was okay but honestly I just wasn't impressed. It didn't have the bang of flavor I was looking for. I finally got to try this place last night! I tried going when the article in the Charlotte Agenda came out raving about their Crab Cakes but the line was just too long. I made sure to call ahead last night for a pick up. It was a Thursday night around 7:30PM. Food was ready within 20 minutes! I ordered two Crab Cake platters. Each platter comes with two sides. Their Crab Cakes lived up to the article! I LOVE seafood and theirs is the best I've had so far in Charlotte. There was so much crab meat. It is a little pricier - at $25 a platter (MP at the time) but you do get a lot of food. I had to finish the platter in two different sittings. The sides I tried were greens, mashed potatoes, Mac & Cheese, and yams. I loved all, but the yams. They were a little too sweet for me. I highly recommend the mashed potatoes. It was so buttery and flavorful. The building is located near Lucky Dog in Wesley Heights. The parking lot is very small but you can park around on the street. This popped up on my Yelp search while I was looking for a new place to check out. This spot has a tight parking lot but that is not stopping customers from walking in to check it out. I walked in and I was warmly greeted by 2 ppl. I loved that they was playing my type of music...urban jazz. It does has some seating...5 high tops and 3 4 top tables. They even have Street Fighter arcade game in here. They are brand new, and mostly everything is cooked to order. Save time and call ahead. I glanced over the menu and saw some goodies. Judging from the crab cakes and mumbo sauce, they gotta be from the Maryland area. I was glad to see lots of hair nets and gloves on the staff. The owner came out and and checked on the customers. You can tell he was busy, but he was everywhere. I ordered the crabcake and shrimp, and I was delighted to have a choice of the shrimp grilled or fried. I chose grilled. It comes with rice. My 2 sides were greens and yams. I wanted asparagus, but I didn't want to pay extra. I waited almost 40 minutes for my food. I saw somone else order the crab cake and specialty lemonade like me, and she got her food before me. Little did I know, it was mine. When I was called to counter that my food was ready, I asked for my Kiwi Strawberry Lemonade. I was told strawberry was all out. I told them I ordered it when I paid over an half hour ago. So the food and drink they gave out recently should have went to me. The owner Jay apologized and said he thought I was already taken care of. He wanted to refund my money but I refused. I told him I know it can be hectic the 1st week open. I got my food and a regular lemonade, (which costs $1.70 less than what I paid for) and it looks good. Jay offered me some homemade sauces. I took his Special Sauce. I challenged him to make a spicy sauce. He took me up on that! He asked me to please come back, and call him before I come. He offered to take care of my next meal. I thanked him and I left. There were small things that could be addressed, like the front door not closing all the way. That can lead to bugs,etc. Also, having someone making sure the dining area is consistently cleaned. And to get the ceiling fans cleaned. There are some old cooler doors in the lobby. I should've took better pictures but I was too excited to start eating. I was in the area after taking a long trip to Ikea and I have been wanting to try this place for a while. When I get there the parking lot in front of the store and the side parking lot were both packed! Inside there was a line but it moved fast. My friend and I waited in the car about 40 minutes for our food but when we got it we were definitely satisfied. The guy working there apologized for our wait and gave us complimentary desserts. (The Apple cake was AMAZING) The platters come with yellow rice and 2 sides. The portions are more than enough and we both had plenty of leftovers. The star of the menu is definitely the crab cake! The crab cake was good but I was chewing on shells and that killed the experience. It was nice to know I had fresh crab but that's like eating an omelet and you're crunching on egg shells. I actually was spitting shells out and actually unintentionally ate a few. The fried chicken in the platter was good and the wings were huge and meaty. The yams were sweat and cooked just how I like. However, though that Mac and cheese and rice looked appetizing, it was actually very bland to me. It's like it didn't have any taste. I thought I had COVID for a minute because I ate the Mac first. Arguably the best soul food spot in Charlotte. I've had the fried chicken platter as well as the Honey Old bay and Honey BBQ wingettes. LISTEN, every single time it SLAPS!!! I don't even know which is my favorite because they are all elite lol. The yams are very good!! If you don't like super sweet yams you may not like them though. The greens are great Cornbread was amazing Garlic mashed potatoes elite. All platters are served on a bed of yellow rice and the rice is cooked to perfection. Honestly what sets this place apart to me is, it taste like you're at your grandma's house. The food taste like it was cooked with love (IT IS A DIFFERENCE). So lets talk about these dinners because I didn't know what to expect. -- Crab cake comes on a bed of yellow rice and you get 2 sides, Mac and cheese and yams. Definitely NOT a Maryland style crab cake. Way too much filler and wasn't grilled golden brown, it looked a bit uncooked. The sides were very good, just too heavy for a crab cake dinner. -- The fried shrimp comes on a bed of rice and the 2 sides were Mac and cheese and cabbage. Couldn't go wrong with this one, everything was good -- Crab fries were good but lacked crab topping My opinion of LuLu's is it's a soul food restaurant that claims to have the best Maryland style crab cake. Other than that deception, the food is good and I can see why they would have a line because they have a soul food menu. Now bout the slowest service I've ever received. And EXTREMELY expensive. My friend wanted an extra piece of fish for his platter. Now according to the online menu, the add on is 6.95, they charged us 14.95 for a damn piece of fish. When the platter was already 23.95. The prices are all wrong btw. They had a menu inside as well but when we got home and looked at the receipt, everything was up charged. The place is a bit divey and could probably use a good once over but it's these types of places that have killer food. Ordering was hard because I wanted to try so many things. I decided on the crab fries, the Baltimore a lemonade and iced tea drink and my daughter got the fried shrimp, yellow rice, cornbread, grits and a fruit punch drink. The fries on the crab fries were hot, crispy and fresh with plenty of crab meat for the price and yummy sauce drizzled all over. So good. My daughters shrimp was perfectly seasoned and fried, the rice was well, rice but the cornbread and grits, OMG, yes! The grits would have been even better if they were hot. We ate in the parking lot so they didn't have time to cool down so they just weren't served hot. Her drink was pretty tasty as well and when we got home she took the leftover, added some water and it was still good because it's so concentrated and sweet. So I ordered this food from DoorDash after having a long day and wanting to end it on a high note. I was quite disappointed by my food, and my Photos reflects what I thought I was ordering versus what I actually got. I thought I was gonna get a nice chunky crabcake, but I believe what I got was just leftover crab at the end of the night. My sides were good very flavorful. The candy yams were literally like candy. So, if that's your thing, you would definitely enjoy them. But the crabcake, which is not cheap, was supposed to be the star and they let me down. Greeted with a friendly atmosphere, all takeout orders were placed in the restaurant and then your order was then hand-delivered to your vehicle. I ordered the spiced shrimp. There is a great deal of construction going on in the area so my first attempt at tasting Lulu's was thrawted but I returned on the weekend and avoided the construction and congestion. Lulu's is a small takeout restaurant located on the corner of Berryhill Rd and Tuskaseega Rd. There was a line of at least 6 people ahead of me and a few others inside waiting on their order. (Despite the line I ordered and recieved my meal in about 20-30 minutes) Apparently, there is a nationwide crab shortage and Lulu's posted for all to see at the entrance. I placed my order of grilled salmon and shrimp with Mac n Cheese and Yams. Platters comes with yellow rice. I requested that Cajun Cream sauce be added to my order, cost an additional $3.50. The counter person who was very nice showed me my order number and told me to return in ten minutes to pick up the order. Somehow my order was given to someone else but the counter person offered a free cake for the inconvenience. Lulu's offers an ample serving of their dishes. The platter can serve more than one person or provides enough leftovers for the next day. I was pleased with the effort of customer service and serving size but a bit to be desired in the taste area. The mac n cheese was bland to me, I won't say that yams were from a can but they are similar in texture and taste of canned yams. I ordered the cajun sauce and had hoped that would have given a spicy kick but it didn't give much flavor at all. Definitely not spicy at least. I really enjoyed Lulus on my visit to Charlotte. The service was good and quick despite there being a line out the door when I arrived. The crab cake is delicious but if your on a budget you may want to ask what the market price is before ordering, when I went it was close to $30 for a the crab cake and shrimp combo. The shrimp are nice and crispy and the crab cake is jammed packed with meat! It should be noted that the shrimp are highly seasoned. The seafood Mac and cheese and yams are flavorful and delicious! If your leaning toward Mac and cheese I suggest doing the up-charge for seafood Mac and cheese, it's about $2 and so worth it! Now, the only thing I had an issue with was the rice. I don't know if I got the bottom of the pan or if the rice was old but it had hard bits of rice in it. It made it hard to eat. I suggest checking to see that your rice fresh before leaving. Despite this, I do suggest giving this place a shot! It's really great! read more

Lulus definitely has Maryland style crab cakes. I found their food to be pretty good, everything felt fresh. I did find that things were excessively salty but besides that, it was good. The service is slow, very slow. We waited a LONG time for our food but our server was sooo nice. I'd recommend ordering an appetizer as they appeared to come out quickly. The decor is cute, comfy couches and it gave a bit of a longue vibe. read more

Baby when I tell you this food blessed my soul!!!!! Let's get into it. The service: There was a little wait to order food when I got there. Probably less than 5 minutes. The line was moving really fast, which was great. The cashier and the guy that gave me my finished order were l nice and friendly. From the time I ordered my food, it only took like 6 minutes for my order to be ready, which is great because they are cooking all the proteins to order The food: We order a fried shrimp platter with baked mac and cheese & greens, a fried chicken platter with mac & Cheese and yams, shrimp and grits, chocolate cake, and the strawberry lemonade. When I tell you, this is the best baked mac & Cheese that I have ever gotten from any restaurant. I would go back just for the mac and cheese alone. The cornbread is how I like it, sweet and the slices were huge. The fried shrimp were nice sized shrimps. The greens were vingery, but that's how some people like them. The fried chicken was ok. It was missing a little more seasoning. Everyone raved about the shrimp and grits so, I tried it. It was ok. I've had better and I've had worst. It was too soupy for me next time, I'll tell them light on the sauce. The serving sizes were large enough, we could all eat off our plates twice. The strawberry lemonade were super sweet to me but good. I just cut mines with a lil water. And my daughter said the chocolate cake was nice and moist. I'm so proud to have tried LuLu's because the foods amazing and my experience was better than some restaurants I've sat in, take out was an easy experience and the food was piping hot, fresh, and original! The crab fries is a staple that's flavorlicious and a must try! The fried chicken wings were perfect and the vegetables were better than my mothers. The crab & shrimp was as good as anything near the coast I hope and pray the professionalism and attentiveness never goes away. This is the Bomb that everyone needs to try! read more
