When the presser foot holder suddenly fell off my sewing machine as I was in the middle of a major project, I went to Luke's Sewing Center to see if they could replace the part for me. This was my first visit to the center in Springdale and I went with hope but no firm expectations--so imagine my delight when they not only quickly replaced the part but didn't charge me anything for either part or labor! I bought a machine from Luke's in September 2022. I was told that I could have free service within the first year. I took it in once because the automatic needle threader was not working for me. Instead of taking it in for service, the staff decided that they could best help me there in the store. After quizzing me on what kind of thread I used what weight of thread I used, how old the thread was, when I changed the needle last, yada, yada, yada, the person helping me was finally able to get the machine threaded with the automatic threader. She told me that it was just a little temperamental and did not take it in for servicing. To this day, I cannot get the machine threaded using the automatic needle threader. Now, in September of 2023, I started having issues with the machine and the tension. The bobbin thread would not hold any tension and I had a lot of skipped stitches. I once again took it in for service and again, the staff wanted to just help me in the store rather than send it in for service. Again we went over the thread weight, the age, when I last changed the needle and when I last cleaned the bobbin holder. The also added that my brand of thread was poor and causes "a lot of problems with the machines". Two people worked on it and finally admitted that it needed servicing for "recalibration". When I asked what the purchase date was of my machine, I realized that it was one year and 3 days ago. I asked if I could still get the one year free service deal and was told no, that the owners were very strict about that rule. I explained that I had been there a few months ago with another issue and I wanted to have it serviced but I never got to have it serviced and because of that I thought I was entitled to the one year free service. But again, I was told no. So now I will have to pay almost $150 to have this service because it was 3 days out of the one year free service time frame. That just left me with another bad taste in my mouth. If you buy a machine there, I hope that you do not need service. I cannot recommend them for a sewing machine purchase or service. I recently purposed the Amber Air 400 at the Tri County store. With the purchase I was given four cones of serger thread to my delight. The store manager and associate were very friendly and welcoming. I have shopped the store several times, have brought my Topaz sewing machine for cleaning. On all occasions the staff has been extremely helpful. I am looking forward to my serger lesson this week, thanks to the store manager who squeezed me in (they were booked two weeks out). In a nutshell, if you live in the area of Luke's and want a certain machine, go for it. If you have other options, run don't walk to that place. Margaret, the owner, has many personas it appears and once that sale is complete, you are toast, should you have issues with your machine. Reached out to her multiple times via, cell, email and text with images for machine skipping stiches, simple enough. Totally dropped the ball, said she would call back yet forgot. Not going waste time begging for help, thankfully found someone much closer to home to fix the timing that was off on my brand new machine, where she initially insinuated it must be something I was doing wrong. Have only been sewing for 50 years. Did save a little from price locally but in long run, would definitely purchase a large ticket item like this, local as the way she runs her business is not worth the extended ride or minimal savings. read more

This is why we like to support small business! Recently got a sewing machine that was 50+ years old and in rough shape, and the wife and I couldn't get it running correctly. I brought it in to Luke's this afternoon and figured I would just need to drop it off for servicing, but Alexis was a huge help and decided to just give it a quick look to see what it needed. She was able to get it running just fine in 15 minutes, and since no actual repairs were needed they didn't even charge! I will be bringing it back next week for a full servicing, and definitely use Luke's for all other sewing needs too. 10/10 recommend! read more

I'm looking at embroidery machines- I have one, and I'd like to upgrade. Since they are pricey (thousands of $) I am researching what's available. This location has a very pushy sales lady who tried to bully me into saying how much I wanted to spend before allowing me to even look at a machine. This location has some beautiful work on display (made by someone else); but I will take my business to a place that will help me buy the best machine for me; not sell me the most expensive thing they can get away with. The Luke's website (although seriously out of date) talks about fun and a creative community. It might be the case at their other locations, but it's not happening in Tri-County. read more

Asked them today to just not work on it and return it and he says, " oh it's done it just won't be here until Tuesday" - 4 days from now - he also gave me the option of driving 20 miles to pick it up. I've been to 3 locations and have been happy with all three. They truly make me feel like family, happily answering my questions and offering advice so I can get the most from my machine. How much did we enjoy our experience? Enough to rent a car and drive 10 hours one way in order to pick up our new machine in person and meet Genevieve, and her crew. Asked her to call me back. I take time to think about spending several thousand dollars on a one time purchase Second day of negotiating saleswoman asked me to give her my credit card now. So happy that I found Luke's Sewing! I wanted a new Husqvarna embroidery machine, but I wanted to buy from a local family run store, not a big box. I did some searching and found Luke's in Cincinnati. I live in the Dayton (OH) area, but it is a quick 30 minutes down the road. Genevieve and her right-hand Michelle are so helpful and knowledgable. I've had my new Ruby Royal for about 15 months and really like it. One of the perks with my purchase is attending the monthly embroidery parties. What a great place for anyone who loves to sew! My mom and I went to Luke's to see if her Singer machine could be repaired. Genevieve took a look at the machine and gave us an estimate on the spot. As we considered the estimated cost for repairs, she offered a very generous trade in allowance on a new machine. She gave us a demonstration on an Elna 320. It sewed beautifully on several types of fabric, including leather! It was such a nice machine, at a great price, we both bought one!!! Our purchase includes free sewing lessons and a discount on notions in the store. They were able to give us a lesson that day with Kathleen, who is a wonderful teacher! I have been a VIP member of Luke's for over 5 years. I love the service that I receive from all of their associates but, especially Gen. She and I have a personal relationship that has grown over the years. She is interested in not only my sewing and embroidery accomplishments, but she never fails to ask about my family. I have attended many of their Club nights, Saturday classes and workshops. I look forward to learning new techniques from celebrities and my peers. if have a problem all I need to do is call. If Michelle or Gen cannot answer directly, they will search the information for me or send me to someone with more knowledge. Over the five years I have purchased the Janome 12000, Elna 940 Multi Needle, Elna 745 Serger along with Digitizer software. I also convinced my daughter to buy the Janome 15000. No pressure just knowledgeable reliable service with a friendly environment. I have never experienced a problem that was not solved to my satisfaction. If my machines need repair, Luke's repairs them in a timely manner. If they give me a date, I know I can pick it up. read more

No prices are displayed on machines in the store, and seem to be set based on what they think the customer can/will pay. Only certain members of the staff are allowed to discuss prices with customers. Further, customers are OPENLY discouraged from discussing what they paid for their machine(s) with other customers. I purchased a used machine ($1000) then later went to upgrade to a better (but still used) machine. I was charged an additional $2000, and told I was being given back the original $1000 I paid for the first machine. I was told this was a "fantastic deal." Two days later, I stumbled across the exact same model machine for only $1100. Further, after I got the machine home, I discovered that a major part was missing. When I called to ask about it, I was treated as though I was lying. Or worse, stupid enough to miss it. It was a LARGE part. I honestly believe the only reason I got a good price on another machine I purchased there was because I had already found a price online. All customers who purchase a machine from Luke's are automatically enrolled in their "VIP Club" and invited to monthly events, which are merely big sales pitches for their overpriced merchandise. I have also witnessed unprofessional behavior from one particular staff member on numerous occasions. Genevieve is rude, bullying, pushy and condescending. She is publicly demeaning to other staff members. I have overheard her loudly complaining on the phone about her store duties while customers were in the store. This is not to say that the store is ALL bad. Joann, Laquitta and Tom are helpful, knowledgeable and kind. There are free classes offered after you purchase a machine. Thus, 1 star. read more

Skip this location, very rude. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my machine but because I didn't buy from them they wouldn't help me more then sell me sewing lessons. Not a great business decision, as when I am ready to purchase a new machine, parts or service I will not step foot in this store nor recommend.
