We were looking for a last minute cut on a Saturday morning for our 5 year old and found this spot hidden away right in our neighborhood. Great Barbershop, I've given them a good 8 or 9 visits now. I've never regretted coming in. The haircut is solid every time. Inside is clean, traditional, well lit. There is reading material, light music or sports talk on the airwaves. Low chatter of conversation. It's a walk in shop so no pressure to make and keep appointments. Nice little hidden barbershop. I walked in around 5pm on a Friday and only had to wait around 10 minutes. These guys are pros with the clippers, something that has been hard to find in Austin. I've had the pleasure of going to Luis' Corner Barber Shop for close to a year now and I've yet to receive anything but stellar service. I've been cut by both Mario and Luis, and they both are very masterful at what they do. They're able to understand exactly what you ask for and execute at a high level. Not to mention they give fantastic fades, a staple of a good barber shop. To top it all off, everyone is friendly and welcoming from the moment you step into the store until you're walking out looking fresh! In town from NY and I desperately needed haircut. I checked out Yelp (as I do whenever I am in a new city). I liked the reviews, so I went in for a cut. The place is exactly what I hope for in a barbershop; it LOOKS like a barbership - not some overdone salon that's TRYING to be a barbershop. I got a friendly greeting when I walked in the door and sat down for my wait; about an hour - which was perfect. The barbers were friendly, chatted with customers and everyone got out of the chairs with a good cut. Luis, the owner, cut my hair. He did a great job, was super friendly and offered me some recommendations for dinner (and his card in case I forgot the names - #Awesome). My cut took about 15 min and was exactly what I asked for. $20 + tip and I walked out happy (FYI - There's a $1 service charge for credit cards). read more

Went in for my first post-vaccine beard trim in a year - Luis did a wonderful job, and the rest of the barbers were jovial and welcoming. Classic neighborhood barbershop full of conversation and camaraderie. The prices are just right too. Very nice on my first visit. I get haircuts maybe every three months, so I desperately needed a full-on follicle reduction. Chris did an excellent job. I am no fashionista, and I have a hard time explaining what I'm looking for⁠--just make it shorter! but not like I'm a marine! Chris knew exactly what to do. Luis' is an old-school place, and that's to its credit. They don't waste their money on a high-tech online appointment system, a beer fridge, and a stupid "pre-prohibition vibe" that leaves anyone over the mental age of 19 wanting to strangle a hipster. At the same time, it's not some hook-em-horns brofest where you get pumped for a night of hard seltzer and hitting on women who knew you were worthless before you even opened your mouth. I've been coming here for a while, long before it's current iteration as Luis' Corner Barber Shop. When Luis took over, I was a slightly skeptical because Gus, the previous owner, cut my hair so well for so long. Just so you know, I have to get my hair cut every other Friday or else I look like an unkempt Chia Pet so to me, barbers are right up there with the std clinic and liquor stores as far as important services. My skepticism was realized the first time Luis cut my hair because he left me looking like one of Edward Scissorhand's shrubs if ever he'd had a seizure while doing yard work. The phrase 'Butcher of Baghdad' came to mind. It's $13 for a cut, $6 for a shampoo and after that haircut I was tempted to ask how much for a full decapitation so I could completely start over. But alas, Luis felt terrible about it and in all honesty, I blame myself for not communicating my wishes more clearly. I mean, how was he supposed to know my mullett is supposed to transition smoothly into a rat-tail (kidding) All water under the bridge....especially since my hair was practically all grown back by the next business day. I'm telling you, it's one of those GOOD problems to have. On my next visit and every visit thereafter, Luis has still never forgiven himself for that first cut and has always delivered impeccable service. This guy really takes pride in his work and it sincerely matters to him that his customers are treated with courtesy and leave satisfied. He knows mostly everyone on a first name basis and if you're a first time customer, he'll get to know yours, as well. The atmosphere sometimes is just as amusing as whatever old TV show he has playing on his TV (usually Andy Griffith or one time he was watching 'Deliverance.' I'm telling you, this is an authentic old school barbershop). There's usually a mix of waiting customers that consist of DPS Officers sitting right next to the guys they're trying to apprehend outside the shop doors. Kind of surreal. I'll never forget one customer being in the chair and upon completion of his haircut, getting the customary neck massage from the other barber, Gabriel. Luis asked him a question and he said, 'not now Luis, I'm having a sexual experience over here.' I'm certain he didn't intend for it to come out that way, but Gabriel didn't miss a beat and deadpanned, 'I'll get the mop." DPS Troopers and criminals alike all fell about the joint. That's just the kind of place it is. One last thought, if you're serious about supporting local, small businesses and you're in the area and need a good cut for yourself or your kids, do yourself a favor and go see Luis. He is the epitome of a small Austin business just trying to make it and he doesn't take any of his customers or their satisfaction for granted. I'm truly rooting for the guy... read more

So, after a long, dirty day of working outside, my brother and I decided that we needed to get ourselves looking tip-top, and so on a friend's recommendation, we drove on down the road to the Corner Barber Shop. We showed up at quarter to 4 on a Saturday, and were told that although the shop officially shuts down at 4pm, the they would stay open to give us the cuts we desired. Luis, the new owner, might have actually only thought that my brother wanted a cut, a fade, which he did deftly and with great precision. He suppressed his surprise that I wanted a "fade" as well, then listened to my description of what I wanted, and then gently informed me that what I really wanted was a "taper". Then he went to town, using a little artistic license and a lot of finesse, along the way chuckling that he never cuts females' hair and that his wife would get a kick out of the fact that he did. He even lathered and shaved my neck- with a STRAIGHT RAZOR. The result- a gorgeous cut, totally tight, and yet not so bull-dagger dykey that I'll be frightening clients. I will 100% be back. After staying an hour late on a Saturday, we were charged an shocking $26 (for TWO cuts!!!), which we subsidized heavily with tippage. Best damned crew-cut in town. read more

Every man with a head of hair needs a good barber. It took me a long time to find my barber shop in Austin, but here it is - Luis' Corner Barber Shop. This is the kind of barber shop I grew up with: no frills, low price, quality barbers. Really, $15 for a haircut is about as low as you can ask for in the city. But what you get for the price is what's most important. Luis, Gabriel, and Raymond take care of their clients and are not just looking to cut and dump customers (you will see this at some barber shops). The décor at Luis' Corner Barber Shop is fitting. Black and white photos of old Austin are above the mirror, and the barber chairs are classics: comfortable and damn heavy looking. And if you're looking for some conversation while getting your cut, the fellas here are happy to oblige. The one complaint I can see people having is a long wait time if there's a full house. Since these barbers take pride in their work, they don't rush haircuts. Personally, I don't mind waiting for quality. But I also tend to pop-in during off-hours, which is most convenient for me. Even if Luis' Corner Barber Shop is not conveniently located next to your home or place of business, I'd still recommend checking it out. This place is great. I recently moved to Austin mid last year and this place has been my go-to since then. Everyone here is really nice and genuine in addition to their quality cuts. I usually go in the middle of the week during the day so it really isn't too busy. The longest I had to wait was around 25 mins which isn't too bad. This is the type of place where they make an effort to learn your name which really goes a long way in my book. All of the barbers here are great, all of my haircuts here have been awesome. This is where you go to get your hair cut if you want to go to a real, actual barber shop. There isn't any of this foofy-doofy upsaling of shampoo/voluminizing products like Sport Clips or Quick Cuts or some BS and you won't walk out of the shop with a divot in your head. It's not hipstery like Bird's. The three gentlemen that make up the current barber staff (Luis, Raymond, and Gabriel) have all given me many excellent cuts apiece, and I can't say I've ever walked away unsatisfied. One strange time, my hair decided to stick out on top several days after my cut. I went back in and it was touched up perfectly and for free. As a man, this is a man's barbershop. Expect scintillating conversation on all topics of possible interest. Expect excellent amusing point-counterpoint between Raymond and Gabriel. Expect chest-beating, rip-roaring, sweaty, swearing, badass manliness in every moment. These boys will pull out their blades and strop them two seconds before cleaning up the back and around the ears. The result is a super close shave on the areas that start to come back surprisingly fast if you have a barber who just cleans up with their clippers. Additionally, they'll do an actual straight shave, which unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of experiencing here. After the cut and neck clean-up, each barber has a shoulder massager device that's a real pleasure after a long day and a haircut. Luis' has WiFi, accepts credit cards, provides the most consistently excellent haircuts I've ever experienced, and will continue to be a hallowed ground of hair-cuttery as long as these gentlemen are in command. I really would like to have some bad things to say about this place to make my review seem more unbiased, but the truth is, there simply aren't any. read more

I have been going to Louis for about a year now. The first time I sat in his chair I was SOLD on his professionalism, precision, and the absoulute quality of his service, and work. The shop is AWESOME with a small town attitude and atmosphere! When I walk in the door he always calls me by name, like I was walking into his home. I also really dig the fact that most times when I stop in that Louis Harley is parked outside! Several months ago I walked in late on a Saturday for a haircut. Louis was backed up, so I had the HONOR of getting my hair cut by Gabe. This guy is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! He can make a rag doll look like Rock Hudson! There is always friendly banter, good conversation, great music, and I always walk out of there feeling appreciated. I was thery yesterday (Thursday) for a haircut after being on a backpacking trip for the last 2 weeks. Needless to say I was lookin pretty scruffy and rough. Everyday is a bad hair day now... So i asked for the same kind of haircut i have asked for at dozens of barber shops in the last two decades and he saw how my hair was styled when i walked in. What made him think that i wanted a completely shaved head besides for a tiny 2" x 2" mohawk in the front center of my head, just big enough to tee up a golf ball is besides me...further, i specifically said that the hair had to be long enough to style up with hair gel...the golf tee box isn't long enough for even that. It sucks, i am in front of people all day and i have gotten some weird looks...i am considering a wig or just shaving the whole thing.
