Had a fine experience setting up a viewing on a rental with Lucy. So much so that we wanted move forward with the process of renting the property. After the initial steps of the application process, she got back to us saying 'Since we have multiple applicants, I'm simply taking a pulse with all prospective tenants if they wanted to offer their best and final monthly rent amount', effectively asking us to offer to pay more than what the unit was listed at. Red flag. I responded saying that we were only comfortable paying what the unit was listed at, unless they wanted to include an additional garage spot, in which case I'd be happy to pay more. She agreed to honor the original rent amount, but added a pet security deposit of one months rent. So the standard one month's worth of rent for the security deposit, PLUS an additional one month's worth of rent for a security deposit for two housebroken cats! In my experience, that is a totally unreasonable ask, so I responded asking if there was an wiggle room on the pet security deposit. At this point, things took a turn. Getting ahold of Lucy was basically impossible. For 2 weeks, she didn't responded to emails or calls. We stayed patient and persistent, as we were excited at the prospect of this home for our family. Finally, I noticed a different phone number for Lucy on the rental listing, than the one provided in her email signature. So, I gave it a call, and she answered, sounding totally surprised. I told her we were hoping for some sort of answer on the property, and that we didn't appreciate the radio silence for 2 weeks. She responded with, and I quote "...yeah, we all have our day jobs. I'll let you know." What?!? This IS your job! I was dumbfounded. Regardless, I held out hope and simply asked that she let us know where everything stood, whether it was a yes or no for us, even to simply give us closure and allow us to move on. If you've made it this far, you probably know how this story ends. A few days later, we got a rejection email from Lucy. Honestly, I would have zero issues with her had she just told us 'no' earlier. Instead we held out hope and waited and waited and waited. I will not be looking to work with Lucy again, nor will I recommend her to anyone. read more
