Mesmerizing ceiling

Gorgeous entry way, excellent service, and everything was delicious. The ambience didn't quite match the cool divey exterior, but the food more than made up for that slight disparity.

The food is really goooood! I also like the little candle light on table. However, the serving was slow(really slow).

Kingfish sashimi

Solid asian fusion place but some of the dishes are really spicy. The waiter said that the Thai chefs were in the kitchen that night so the dishes could be spicier than usual. Great ambience. The music has a bit of faster feel to it. People are super nice here. MUST GET: soft shell crab - this was hands down the best dish. Beautifully compared with texture and flavor combination. Don't over-drench on the sauce. A little bit on the side should be good. Naan - buttery. Crispy and flaky. Fantastic. SOLID: Papaya salad with calamari. Too spicy. Have to down a lot of water to just counter the spice. I liked the calamari but the flavor was overwhelmed by the papaya. SKIP: smashed cucumber: the cucumbers weren't crunchy. Like the szhechuan pepper flavor for this dish. Kingfish sashimi - a bit too acidic and spicy, even with the coconut cream. Didn't care for this dish even though other reviewers seem to like it a lot.

I really enjoyed both my meals at Lucy Liu (came with colleagues the first time and wanted to introduce my husband to Lucy Liu and their amazing soft shell crab jianbing). The food was delicious but I docked a star because their cooking was inconsistent and it sounds like even the servers acknowledge that. The first time I came, everything was super spicy which I enjoyed but my colleagues may not have. Second time I came, everything was kinda salty rather than spicy.

Tempura, interior, papaya and prawn salad, eggplant dish

Dropped by for lunch and was seated at the bar facing the kitchen. I highly recommend sitting up here because watching the different plates come to life and being quality-checked before being served was amazing! I had the papaya salad, organic tofu tempura, duck dumplings and a delicious eggplant dish. All were wonderful but my favorite was the multi-texture and layered flavors of the papaya salad. Definitely going to come back to try more menu items.

Was seated promptly at a shared table despite the walk in which was most appreciated! Service for wage, drinks and dining was prompt and lovely; the server took her time to answer questions and walk us through the menu. Coming from NY, I'd anticipated a ton of flavor and pop given the rave reviews. And there were hints of greatness, but... my betel fried tempura were 3 very small pieces for the $16, Peking dumplings' sauce was unbalanced with fish sauce and trout salad (though she said it had rice, as I questioned being hungry" was very little despite the pop of Thai basil and coriander. Should I have gotten the Feed Me Menu, perhaps... but given the amazing flavor of Pastuso just round the bends, I would skip this one and wait in line next time.

Soft Shell Crab Pancake Roll

My colleague was working here for her second job and she always raved about the food and drink. I decided to pop in by myself one night and she ordered everything for me that she thought was best to try! This is a tapas style restaurant, very dim lighting and tight dining room. I found the bar area to be more quiet and romantic for dates. The drinks were on point and so delicious! The food was amazing and fresh made to order. I had the bao buns, soft shell pancake roll, dumplings and banana fritter ice-cream! A little expensive but very worth it for a group or dinner out!

-Soft shell pancake is good, but can be better if they used a real Chinese pancake with scallions -King fisher sashimi is average, interesting with coconut foam.

Supernormal - Peanut butter parfait, salted caramel & soft chocolate

For our party of two we were seated at the bar, which is a really long bar and appears to be the primary area where parties of two get seated. It was nice, fun to be able to watch the action behind the bar. - They had a great cocktail menu and so we ordered some unique drinks. Both were really good. - The menu is pretty broad with small plates to share and larger entrées too. We end up starting with the Korean Rice Cakes, which was probably a highlight of the meal. It was also a pretty generous size. Then they brought out the Lobster Roll, which was good, but probably a poor ordering choice for us since it really wasn't that unique...although it was very yummy. And finally, we had the Duck Bao, and it was excellent. There were so many other things we would've liked to order from the menu, but this was a lot of food for just two of us, although we saw other parties of two order so much more. But, we wanted to save room for the peanut butter parfait. It was worth the weight/wait! - Service was good. At first, it seemed like they were rushing to move us along, but then as more people came into the restaurant, it calmed down a bit. - The place has a great vibe, but it's a little bit loud as you would expect with a place like this. Bottom line: This was one of the best meals we've had so far during our trip to Australia.

The place is widely popular so I suggest making reservations if you want to give it a try. Overall, I thought the food was solid with a nice modern atmosphere, and efficient service. You start off with complimentary roasted pumpkins seeds which were a nice touch. They are highly addictive as I couldn't stop eating them! They offer a number of small plates for you to try various dishes so we ordered the shrimp cakes and selection of seafood on ice. We were here for lunch so didn't want to eat too much. The sesame crust on the shrimp cakes made for a nice crunch. The seafood on ice included a sampling of octopus, tuna sashimi, Australian abalone, etc. The seafoods were all OK. Nothing really stood out. For entree, we shared the slow cooked lamb shoulder. It's braised and cooked in what they called Yu Xiang Sauce. I have not had this type of preparation before so it was an interesting flavor. The lamb shoulder was a large portion and the meat was tender. The sauce is slightly spicy and is similar to Sichuan spices. It's really savory and probably best eaten with rice. Portion is large enough to be shared.

Melbourne is dense with excellent restaurants, and this was no exception. We chose this place…read morebased on the reviews on a different website. This is a Filipino fusion restaurant, which is a fairly uncommon entity, and we were intrigued by the menu. The restaurant is located at the southern end of Hardware Lane, across the street from the string of restaurants line the narrow alley. It's fun to walk down Hardware Lane, as long as you don't mind being waylaid by the hosts and hostesses of each restaurant trying to convince you to come in. It kind of reminds me of Belden Place in San Francisco. We didn't make a reservation, and we were concerned that we would be turned away because the place was packed to the gills. Lucky for us, there was some open space at a shared table that we were just able to squeeze into. We weren't especially hungry during this visit, so we got a small sampling of dishes, all of which were well-made and delicious. Kingfish sashimi with passionfruit and caviar - really interesting flavors here. The sashimi itself was tasty, and I thought it looked at tasted a bit like the hamachi (yellowtail) that I love. In fact, I looked it up later and found out that this is the same fish. BBQ duck with mandarin jam and thin pancakes - pretty messy to eat, and the mandarin jam made it sweeter than expected, but again this was an interesting twist on an otherwise familiar food. Lamb rump with enoki mushrooms, kampot pepper, and a burnt eggplant mash - I guess you can't be in a restaurant in Australia without finding lamb on the menu (sheep do outnumber humans here by a 3:1 ratio). I loved the lamb and the enoki, but really disliked the flavor and texture of the eggplant concoction. Other at the table also found it unappealing and kind of out of place. Short ribs lettuce wraps - boneless pieces of meat, just slightly spicy, with large leaves of lettuce. Very delicious. On the side we got an order of coconut jasmine rice and something called "kangkung", which he hadn't heard of before. It seemed like something we call hollow-heart vegetable, but apparently it's also known as water spinach. This was also pretty good. Service was prompt, and the food came out at a reasonably leisurely pace, such that we neither felt rushed nor did we wait very long between courses. The total cost for our meal (not including drinks) was just over AUD106, which seemed quite reasonable to us.

Located on the first level of an renovated office building next to also popular Mamasita, Uncle adds modern culinary creativity to some classic Vietnamese dishes combined with tree level views of the inner city. The space, unlike the St Kilda location, is an intimate single level with a series of small tables, booths, larger benches and a couple of window alcove small tables if you're lucky. The interior has a neo-industrial design with dim lighting, exposed pipes and timber and concrete beams. Lighting provided by strategically placed table spot lights and some ambient hanging wicker lamps. In contrast to many restaurants that have multiple locations, only the top favourites from Uncle's St Kilda restaurant appear on the menu. The classic lime-cured hapuka betel leaf, pigs ear banh mi and selection of pho make an appeareance, but the remainder of the menu consists of new and exciting dishes. The menu is divided into a few sections; Little Guys, Banh Mi and Bao, Pho, Big Guys, sides and desserts. Highlights include the burrata that features Uncle's experimental barrel aged fish sauce, the grilled Sher wagyu brisket that literally melts in your mouth and the set Vietnamese coffee dessert with coconut ice cream and sesame crisp. Although it's not the largest menu, choosing between the dishes can be difficult. The Uncle Knows Best tasting menu option for $59 per person features all the favourite dishes. A full bar is available with a range of cocktails, wine, beer and spirits. There is a Vietnamese sangria on offer which is made from red wine, black vermouth, cognac, citrus, herbs, lychee and lemonade. The experimental fish sauce also makes an appearance, combined with Tromba tequila in the See You Bye cocktail. Uncle breaks the trend of the mass of Asian Fusion venues in the city with a focus on a single cuisine, and does it well with a fun, entertaining but also, if needed, intimate atmosphere.
