I haven't had KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) in quite awhile. We were happy to try this place since it…read morewas a short walk from where we were staying. The whole bird looked way too big for two people (maybe if you're really hungry) so we had a half chicken with soy garlic sauce. All the fried chicken orders come with a side salad and a small serving of pickled radish/daikon. Oh yes, we also had two small glasses of their house draught/draft beer. We really enjoyed the chicken! Even the white meat was moist and tender. My main critique would be for the cabbage salad. There was just way too much dressing. If it was meant to be a slaw, it was still way too much. Jae, our server, was absolutely amazing. She was friendly, outgoing, and very attentive towards everyone! Excellent attitude and very professional. I hope you get a raise, Jae! Good luck with everything!

The staff were wonderfully polite and attentive, despite it being a full house since it is only their second week in Hawthorn. Plus the menu was easy to read, which would make it easy to understand for any Korean fried chicken first timers. Two bowls of potato chips were provided free of charge while we waited for our food which was unexpected and very lovely! The food itself was absolutely divine and presented well. I ordered a beer and was provided with a cold beer stein along with the bottle. We decided to take our unfinished food with us, and they were very helpful in providing a carrier box for us. I'm expecting to become a regular customer here! Would very much recommend it.

I had a great time here, although my two friends would disagree with me as they don't like Korean…read morefood very much. However, my love for some delicious Korean cuisine significantly outweighs their hatred and so there is still a net positive effect. Also fuck what they think this is my review. (Just kidding Niki and Clay if you're reading this) Ambiance: At first glance, this is a tiny little restaurant but it looks very chic and trendy. Probably not the best place to go if you're in for a more sit-down restaurant though. Customer Service: Great! The food came out at a reasonable time, the waitress was very polite and courteous, and they even provide you with these little metal magnets that you can hang your purse on. 2012 wizardry - how far society has come! Food: I ordered the Beef Bibimbap and it was really some of the best Bibimbap I've had. Perfect flavours, perfectly cooked beef, I finished it at the speed of light and started pathetically scrounging around my bowl for the last pieces of rice to get the most out of it. --- The lunchtime prices are really great. My Bibimbap only set me back at 11 dollars for a decently large portion. Tasty, cheap, and great service! Ways to improve: ~ Their lunchtime menu is veryyy limited to the point where your decisions are mainly between bulgogi or bibimbap. If you don't like either, sucks. NOTES: ~ EFTPOS minimum $20

Sadly not the Korean feast I was hoping for. We arrived for our reservation at 8pm and were sat…read moredirectly in front of the wide open door. After freezing for 10 minutes, huddled in our coats, we asked if we could move to a table further down the back that had been vacated. Maybe the waiter was desensitised to the Melbourne chill, but she looked at us blankly as if we had asked for a camel carrying a thousand purple cats. The food, surely, would make up for the lacklustre first impressions - yes? Sadly not. The best thing we had were the pan fried vegetable dumplings and the shitake mushroom skewers. The kimchi pancake was okay. The crispy chicken salad was straight from the 70s complete with strawberries and tinned peaches making it overly sweet. Fortunately the chicken itself was good. We finished these dishes and everything was whisked away and our bill brought three minutes later! We all looked at each other, then waiter and then at each other again... ermm, "we haven't finished yet". I then had to explain that we'd also ordered a beef bibimbap. Again with the blank stare. "Yes, we would like more food. Yes, the beef bibimbap". 10 minutes later a stone-pot bibimbap was put down in front of us (though not before the bill was brought again to us as if we were ready to leave!). Wow, what a disappointment. It looked great, with a fried egg on top, but at $16 the contents were a bit lacking, with only a tiny bit of meat and average rice. We left some in the bowl, finally paid the bill (third time's the charm!) and departed. Sadly, Seoul Soul has a fun modern interior but not the substance to warrant more than a two star rating from me. Rather than trying to be trendy, I wish they'd focus their attention on making classic Korean food really well.

I get mine veggies and tofu no egg for a delicious Vegan meal. Absolutely worth a try and a staple if you're new to Korean food. Great for lunch or dinner.. The waitress brought out the beef noodle but saying it was the seafood one. The second mistake is there was no beef inside the noodle bowl (only soup, vegetable and 1 egg). We asked another waiter and he came back with an answer "Sorry, the chief forgot to add beef on your bowl". He didn't say that they would bring beef out or whether we would like to use seafood/pork instead. They totally ignored us!! After 15 mins of waiting in hunger, my boyfriend took the bowl to the reception area and nicely asked them AGAIN!. The chief came out with the most rude attitude I've ever seen. Instead of giving us any apologies, he said: "WHAT DO YOU WANT? COOK AGAIN?". That's damn ill-mannered! We were so angry, my friend demanded the money back for his bowl because it is ridiculous to pay $12 for only soup & vegetable in a Korean restaurant! If the owner or manager of the store reads this comment, please bear in mind that your staffs need to be trained AGAIN about customer services. Definitely won't recommend anyone!

The dumplings were one such thing - beautiful measured tastes in the dumpling and sauces, but they were a little chewy and under-cooked. No such issues with the Tempura Calamari which was cooked nicely, as was the Nasu Dengaku (eggplant dish) which was up there with the best I've had. What a dish. The tofu was also fine, but got pretty soggy and lost its crispness pretty quickly in the sauce. The sashimi is where this place really steps up its game. Perfect melt in your mouth stuff. The sushi rolls that accompanied them on the platter we got were just ho-hum, but that sashimi was to die for. Next time we'll probably just gorge ourselves on endless plates of that. Service was again *almost* great. Lovely and attentive to our water, but they did give us prawn sashimi after we alerted them to not wanting it due to allergies. Lucky one of us could eat it, so it was all okay, but you lose a little confidence in them there. Overall though we really enjoyed it and will be back to give them a chance to nudge this 4 up to a 5.

Wa Fu fulfilled my requirements. Each succulent piece of the mixed vegetable selection (eggplant, zucchini, carrot and sweet potato) survived the 10 minute drive home in a brown paper bag and was complemented by the best Nasu Dengaku I have ever had: the deep fried egg-plant melted in my mouth, the miso sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet and savoury and left me feeling that this is a place to revisit! The warm welcome, the cleanliness and the ambiance further enhance my belief that I can stop searching for that perfect tempura! A very pleasant surprise from a suburban café.
