The dressing rooms have complete walls from top to bottom. So, when we read that every other room was kept empty, we just found that to be a waste of dressing rooms, especially when at one point (on our 2nd trip to the dressing room) there was a short line to get a dressing room. Why does every other room need to be empty? That doesn't make any sense at all. Other than that peculiar quirk this location is excellent. The dressing rooms were clean & so was the entire store. It was kept very organized. We looked at some swimsuit bottoms & as we walked away Christina was making sure they looked perfectly lined up on the table. (SIDENOTE: the XS swim bottoms MIGHT fit a 10/12 year old girl so if you are looking for swim bottoms for your pre teen, check out the XS bottoms at VS/Pink. We couldn't believe how tiny they were.) After we left the dressing room Adriana asked my friend how the bras worked for her. These ladies know customer service! When we were standing in a fairly long line to check out, it moved quickly.... In no time, Elise was ready to check us out. We were chatting away & didn't see her at the far end. Vanessa let us know in a kind voice that Elise would be happy to check us out when we were ready. As we walked towards Elise I apologized for not paying attention. She was smiling at us & was so nice! She could've acted irritated but she didn't. She was wonderful! We bought quite a bit so while we were checking out we had great conversation with Vanessa (pretty sure she was the Mgr) & Elise. We even chatted w another shopper w a great name. I can remember shopping at these places with my dad. You walked in, and someone approached you (complete with a tape measure around their neck) and catered to you. They spent time with you - they found, or at least helped you, find what you were looking for...they went and found other things they thought you'd like or recommended.... Bottom line: I think the quality of these places are not what they used to be. Walked in on Saturday afternoon, and literally stood there thinking someone would approach me. No one did. Now, one young lady eventually shouted toward us, welcoming us, from the front counter. Now, I'm not going to lie, it was pretty busy, but I don't think that excuses the lack of attention to your customers. I almost left. The lady who eventually approached us was minimally helpful (and not nearly dressed like someone working at a men's clothing store, if you get my drift). I had to ASK for my measurements to be taken - she had a disappointing "well if you don't see your size we don't have it" attitude. She was obviously more concerned with hanging out at the counter with her co-workers. We had some questions on things, and they offered candies while they helped us check out the inventory in a little booklet they had, which made things easier than hauling everything out one at a time. I can't attest to the prices here, since I don't regularly shop at these kinds of stores, so, meh. This shop is located within La Cantera. Parking can be a bit challenging, but it's next to Nordstroms.

I'm so confident in my masculinity that I've visited a frou-frou ladies clothing store on multiple occasions and bought scarves, blouses, and purses for my mother. I know next to nothing about clothing, but I know what my mom likes: bright, flowy, intricate, Southern California-inspired apparel brimming with personality. That's why I skip the impersonal department stores and head straight to Johnny Was. Over the past several years, I've bought two pairs of shoes, a purse, a makeup bag, two jackets, two kimonos, ten blouses, and three scarves. Yes, I counted. Prices range from $75 (a makeup bag) to $1,800 (an elaborate, embroidered blouse), but the cost reflects the quality; the artisanship and attention to detail are second to none. The sales associates are friendly and personable, never pushy. I know my mom's style fairly well, but the employees have steered me towards items I hadn't even considered, including several gorgeous scarves to complement the blouses. The staff could take advantage of my diffidence with all things apparel (in a clothing store, I look like a mute foreigner stumbling around with an open wallet), but they never try to upsell me. My only quibble is with the store's name. Johnny Was? Johnny was what? Apparently, the store's founder took the name from an obscure Bob Marley song. How random. Service is always exemplary at any LB I go to, and this one is no exception. 9 times out of 10 I will find something to bring home at a good deal, be it panties, bras, pants, shirts, accessories, or even shoes. And the really cool thing is if they don't have the size I need, they can ship it to me or the store for free. I always make a habit to stop by LB when I'm shopping at the RIM.
