A chinese restaurant with very low price and no MSG. They have to compensate with seasoning like the sauces. Soy sauce, oyster sauce, etc. Service was fast considering the guy cooked to order. Nothing on the warmer. Not from scratch but with prepared item and sauces. Taste was okay. Average but good deal for the price. Cheaper than a big fast food chain cost nowadays. I Absolutely loved this restaurant. It appeared to be a Family business and the son who answered the phone and ran the cash register was so nice. There are not many Asian restaurants which sell Singapore Noodles which I loved and grew up on or show on their menu but this one did. Their portions were great more than any other restaurant. Their fried rice and egg rolls were good also. A plus for me was they were down the street from my home so very convenient. Refund for food that people do not enjoy. The food was soggy. If food is prepared for a to go order, then the sauce for the fried chicken should not be too runny. Make the sauce less liquid based that way it will not be soggy when the person opens their food. If this is a business, then run it with the customer in mind, especially the one who is on the go. The cashier was kind but the cooks unkind tone about the food not being enjoyed told me they didn't care about the customer's experience more than their profit. Great presentation of the food. This place used to be our favorite Chinese place for work functions, but won't be the case anymore after today. I placed an online order for 3 party trays on Monday morning (2 days ago) for 11:15 am pick up today for nurses week & birthday celebration. Our staff person got there at 11:05 for food pick up, but the place was locked & dark. She knocked on door & peaked, no one was there. I called a total of 10 times & left few messages, but no one answered. So, having to feed 20 ppl, we decided to go another place across the highway that offered quick ordering. At 11:29, I got a call back from Lucky wok. I said I needed the food for a work function, so we couldn't wait bc of our work schedule, so we needed to cancel for a refund. The lady had a hard time understanding me, so 6 minutes later a guy called me & asked if I had a party order for them. I said yes & we had to go somewhere else bc no one answered the phone & no one was physically at the restaurant, so I needed a refund. He said he would process the refund & send me the proof, which he did. So, 2 stars for the easy refund process. However, I'd be very reluctant to order party trays from them in the future. No explanation provided for the failure to fulfill paid party order, but at this point, I don't care. Plan B worked out with less than 30 minute delay. read more

I went here expecting the prices to be great and the food to be okay. Well, the prices were higher than I expected because I had seen prices online that were a lot better on two different menus 1 old and 1 that had been updated. But the food was a little better than I expected. My son had the Szechuan tofu and he said it was good. We split the vegetable fried rice and the vegetable lo mein which were both average they need a little more flavor, but did contain a good amount of vegetables which i liked. I had the Happy Family which was good and would have been better with a thicker sauce. I also had the cream cheese won tons. They were really good. My son had the crispy spring rolls and he liked those. We had a lot of left overs to take home. The service was great and the food came out so hot we could not even eat it at first. No frills Chinese place catering to a small local crowd and people passing through like me. Clean inside and located very close to Interstate 20. Family owned and operated; cooking done by the parents and the register and front ran by the older son. Reminded me of my own father's restaurant, as the cooking was done by him and the front ran by the kids. Being a Chinese restaurant in Texas cannot be easy, and I give them a pass when referring to their very Caucasian menu tailored to that very crowd that will help keep them afloat. So when I come to places like this I don't expect super Chinese food from the homeland. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to order the General Tso's whatsit...I try to eat the dishes that have more Chinese than Westernized influence (such as black bean sauce). Food portions were big, tasted good and was made quickly. Only real critique is there was TOO much sauce (for me). However, the wontons in the soup had exceptional flavor and were made from scratch. Dinner for two. Slow night. What a fantastic find and surprise! We just stopped by because we were in the area. The food took a bit longer to get out, but after taking our first bite it was well worth the wait. The food was super fresh, perfectly cooked and the flavors were incredible. We love a good cheap Chinese mom and pop shop but never expect too much on quality but Lucky Wok does not skimp out and the flavor of the chicken with garlic sauce and fried rice were incredible! Probably some of the best fried rice I've had EVER. We also ordered fried dumplings and I believe they were handmade and not frozen. What a very pleasant surprise! We ordered dinner portion chicken in garlic sauce, fried rice and fried dumplings with two drinks and it totaled to about $18. I'll start by saying, I have had great experiences here before. Really have enjoyed the owners and the food. Here's where I have a heart breaking experience. On a Sunday afternoon, I ordered for take out. I arrive a few minutes before my food is set to be ready(1:30pm). I go to walk in, and the door is closed and the restaurant is shut. It's a Sunday so I'm assuming I somehow was able to order when they were closed, fair enough. I go back to my car to see if I can dispute the charges. As I'm doing that, the very kind owners pull up with bags and are clearly rushing to get in. Maybe they were away for lunch? Unsure. But from the time they get in, to the time I'm leaving with my food, it was less than 15 minutes. I had a bad feeling about it all as it was happening but I talked myself out of it and went home and enjoyed take out and waiting for my husband to return to enjoy as well. Anyway, fast forward to that night - worst food poisoning of our lives. It was a full exorcism. The food from Lucky wok was only food we both had that overlapped that day so we can only assume it wasn't anything else. I only share this because while the food is very good, I cannot believe they practice food safety. It is great Americanized Asian food (100% No MSG) that is fresh and piping hot every time you pick up the food. The steam is literally wanting to hydrate your face when you remove the lid to the soup or the take out containers. Great place to stop by for Chinese food if you are in the Forest Hill area. Definitely recommend. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. They don't have big pots with ready made food. Food is made to order. There is a small seating area if you choose to eat there, but I saw most people picking up to-go orders. I ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice. It came with some broccoli and a crispy egg roll. What I liked about the broccoli was it seemed like it didn't come from a frozen bag. I think it was fresh broccoli. I'll come back. I've ordered from Lucky Wok on Forest Hill Dr. twice now and it's has been well worth it on both occasions. I've had their breaded chicken and it was more bread than meat for me so I tried their Mongolian platter and it was amazing. I'm not sure who the young man is who answered my calls but he is so kind and informative (the 2nd time I forgot what I'd ordered before and he helped figure out what it was - extra points). The food was fresh and hot so I know it was made to order. The portion was filling and they aren't selfish with the ingredients either. The fried rice had huge chunks of raw onions, and again, flavorless. Kung Pao chicken, now here's where I was really shocked...completely flavorless. I asked for spicy, I saw the chili peppers....I don't even know how they could accomplish making it so terribly bland. Having set my meal aside after 3 bites I decided to try my husbands Szechuan Beef. It was, you guessed it, bland, flavorless and the meat in both of our main dishes was chewy. They have online ordering, and I was kind of skeptical as to why they had about a 30 min prep time, but when I arrived there's was 3 people waiting outside for their food, and this was during a Tuesday night. Done the jalapeño chicken it's great. Nice spicy kick. Also done the Kung Po it's good and spicy too. Done the PuPu platter it's good. Also had the steamed dumplings. Very good too. The General Tso was not my favorite but I think the guy uses a real orange sauce and my palate is used to the fake P.F. Chang's type of orange chicken. Egg rolls are also really tasty. The best little restaurant you'd never know was there!! This small shop just off I-20 at Forest Hill Dr is ALMOST the best kept secret in the area. Except, of course, for the simple fact that their food is so amazing, locals can't help but brag about it! From the appetizers to their house specialties, the overwhelming quality and pride in each dish is palpable.
