Great location inside of Hulen Mall on the top level. This mall offers inside seating only. The food is always fresh and hot and the servers are always super nice. You get a large amount of food for the price. I always get the black pepper chicken which is amazing. I highly recommend this location

When I walked by, they were handing out a lot of samples. For the most part, all of it was delicious. :) I got Lo Mein, Bourbon Chicken & The Cajun Spicy Chicken. They give large portions, enough to save for another meal later on in the day. The Lo Mein is a little bland, but other than that it was pretty delicious. One thing I have to say is that they upcharge people slightly who are paying with debit/credit cards.

I assume they must have a lot of people try to dine and dash since typically at buffets you pay at the end. We were seated quickly. They have a fairly good selection of typical Chinese buffet food. Everything I tried was hot and fresh with employees constantly cleaning and refilling food. Buffet food in general is usually pretty mediocre. The food here is typical Chinese buffet fare, nothing out of this world. It was fresh and the employees were friendly and attentive. I will definitely go back.

They charge by the pound which isn't too bad since you are getting just what you know you like. I enjoyed all of my to-go buffet plate, except the chicken with broccoli. Something ain't right about the chicken in this dish. I had a few other items that were also chicken and they seemed like normal chicken. However the chicken with broccoli felt like it wasn't real in my mouth. The texture is not of any chicken I've ever had. Definitely don't recommend that dish. I'm glad the other chicken dishes tasted right. One more thing I should note is that they didn't have sesame balls out tonight, but my husband asked about them and they brought out an order for him that was fresh cooked. I had no idea they would do that. Because of that, I'm Giving a 4 instead of a 3.

While the bahn mi isn't exactly traditional, it is still very good -- I'd highly suggest getting it with the pate. The sampler appetizer has a little bit of everything and is great for sharing. Pineapple fried rice was delicious. Pad Thai also great! If you're a spicy eater like me, just go for very spicy. They have 4 spice levels (mild, medium, spicy, very spicy) and this is a reminder to myself to get very spicy next time. Thanks for the delicious meals!

A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
