This review is for the bakery. After my nightmare last year getting a cake for my son's first birthday from Safeway where the design looked an awful lot like a man's peen peen, I was hoping for something better at Lucky. I am so glad I listened to a friend and tried their bakery. The staff was so helpful getting me hooked up with the best baseball themed birthday cake. I ordered white cake with the whipped topping adding strawberry's. Everyone at the party wanted to know where I got the cake, it was that good. I've been having dreams about it ever since and I'm not even a cake person. They have so many designs for cakes, you can even design your own using their decals. So so so happy. Early this morning I put in an order for Lucky's via Instacart for about $300.00 worth of groceries. They delivered early this morning by sneaking onto my porch and dumping everything on there, left and said nothing...no notifications, no nothing. I called Instacart and they said that the driver contacted me out of courtesy to let me know, which he lied about, and that I was responsible for any damages incurred once the groceries were on my property. I contacted Lucky's and asked if they could help me and the lady was so rude and said "we gave you the groceries so it's out of our hands. You're gonna have to repurchase everything again." She was so heartless and rude to me. I'm disabled and can not drive so I depended on these services and was taken advantage of in the worst way possible. I don't work and I had to use whatever I had in my savings to buy something to eat and now everything is damaged and no one from these companies care. Nina G. Update: When I looked at the time the delivery man started shopping it was 6am, and the receipt said that that he paid and left at 8am, which would explain why my things, such as my milk, cheese, and yogurt were hot. When I told Instacart about that, on representative said that they send me an email for a refund, and another representative said that they would redeliver the items that were damaged. I don't shop regularly here anymore, but when I'm in the area, it's a good place to just pick up some necessities. I do love that they have BBQ on the weekends. Great to grab a quick slab or a half chicken. I just wish they had a few more self-checkout stations. Four just doesn't seem to do it. read more

I love this Lucky's because it has so much more than the other smaller neighborhood Lucky's. However, whatever happened to 3's a crowd???? that is the only downside. Because I think majority of the people will go shopping here, the lines tend to be long. read more

My go-to local supermarket. I frequent this place mostly out of conveniece and because it is right up there when comes to my price point. Being located in the Tanforan strip mall, large crowds and long lines are expected. I usually don't have too much difficulty finding parking in the lot. Their store isn't the nicest, cleanest, or most well organized of Lucky's I've been to, I personally prefer the store in Daly City best, but what the make up for in this short coming is very welcoming and personable employees on the floor and butcher area. I am almost greeted on the floor on the product department and/or asked if I need any assistance. The butcher shop/fresh seafood area is staffed with very friendly people as well. I never have to wait long for help and they are always sincere when helping me with my selections. The cashiers here however, have been a hit or miss. But for the most part I find them at least tolerable. I think management can do a better job though managing lines during peak hours. The Daly City location excelled at this. There is also a Red Box dvd vendor and Bank of America ATMs located at this Lucky location. read more

Honestly, I don't really like Lucky's as a supermarket. Especially this one for some reason. Eh, I'll cut them some slack. It's a supermarket. I get it. I just find it hard to find things in this location. I feel like the good bread (acme/semifreddis) is hidden and in a weird location. The asian/latin products are in this separate little back area (never seen that before!). Nothing in this place is logical! All in all, it's just a weird setup! I come here once in a while, but I came here this time because that had a good deal on Salmon. $5.88 / lb can't beat that right? Even Costco is $7.99 / lb. The store is clean big different isles. Only thing I have to say is that this place doesn't have enough cashiers every time because there is always a line. I always do self-check out but sometimes people have a lot of stuff to do self check out, literally like a whole cart of stuff. I also come to this location to buy dry ice when I go camping and needs stuff frozen / cold for couple days and it's a good buy. Overall, great super market I sometimes buy the hot foods potato wedges and what not. It's nicer than the Safeway's but I came in looking for some ginger and the ginger they had there was shocking. Shockingly old. The rest of the store is pretty clean and the produce section looked reasonable. The busiest part of the store was the redbox stations. So since I've moved back to San Bruno I've been to Lucky's quite a bit since it's close to my house and open late. TERRIBLE experiences. There are TONS of employees standing around and like 30+ people waiting to be checked out. I experienced this three times in the last month already. What are the other checkstands even for? I never seen more than two open. The self check-out isn't much better, the lady who was working there gave me hella attitude like I was stupid when I scanned a $5 gift coupon (Lucky's gave me $5 credit coupon last time I bought groceries, the only reason I showed up yesterday) and it scanned only 1 cent off for some reason. I waved her over and she briskly pushed some buttons and inserted the coupon in the coupon slot without any words and walked away. Can you say, "customer service" training sorely needed? By the scowl on her face when she walked over, you would swear as a bystander that I said something about her mother under my breath. I really hate going here.... Bring back Albertson's. read more

For the review regarding expired goods, I've seen that at multiple supermarkets including Safeway. If you tell an associate it will be taken care of. Sometimes a product is missed while restocking. I have actually haven't had any problems with this Lucy's. When I lived up the street from it I was there 2-3 times a week buying groceries at all times of the day and always found what I needed. This was my main stop for canned goods, bathroom stuff, and other goods that wouldn't go bad if left in the car for a bit. They've always had some pretty good deals going on, including recently where it was 3 medium pumpkins for 12$. The one issue that my housemates and I would run into is about 30% of the time we would be in the line that had an incredibly slow cashier. There are a bunch like this that work here. It use to drive my housemate nuts. The meats and fruits are alright here. My opinion is to go to Draeger's (San Mateo), Lunardi's (San Bruno), or Molly Stone (San Bruno/Burlingame) for quality meats. read more

Well now. My main supermaket since I live 5 minutes away. I come here when I need those "gotta have" ingredients when making something for dinner or something else, and you need it quick and price doesn't matter. The place for the most part is clean. Doesn't feel dirty, or smell funky like the asian supermarkets. Like any other supermarket though, when you need help, you can't find someone roaming the isles that work there for shit, but when you don't need them, they seem to be on parade around the store. Overall thought they always get the job done. Even when returning something. Yes, I've returned something to the supermarket because I didn't want it anymore before I walked out of the door. They have your typical food, and are beginning to expand their Asian food section. It seems to get bigger and bigger. They don't have ALL the exotic stuff though you need when making international foods. And with some of the food we cook sometimes, we need that one ingredient to make the dish that this place doesn't carry. I also come here to rent DVDs, LOL! They have a Redbox in the front of the store. Can't go wrong with $1 rentals and they constantly update it every week. The other great thing is that if you rent at one store's Redbox, you can return it to another's if you're there by chance! So cool! Give it a try. You have nothing to lose but a buck, and sometimes you lose nothing at all since you get free rental codes via email if you sign up. read more

Overall the store is well kept and VERY organized. However, I'm bugged by two things: their sale tags and check-out wait time. The sale tags are very misleading. From my experience, the whole "2 for $____" has been confusing. Sometimes I don't need two of something. For example, if a bottle of juice is on "sale" at 2 for $4.00, and the regular price is $2.59, and I only need one bottle, will the price be $2.00? Nope, it will be $2.59! What? How is this a sale??? There's no savings if I have to buy 2 in order get the sale price. About the wait time, Lucky's advertises that they'll open up another checkout stand when lines grow greater than 3 customers. This is BOGUS. This evening, I made the mistake of running an errand at Lucky's...I only needed 3 items and was in there area so why not stop here. I grab my items, make my way to the checkout stands, and from about 10 feet away, I see that the lines are about 9-10 people long and are tailing into the aisles (just picture the lines at your local Costco)! There were maybe 4 cashiers open. What happened to 3's a crowd??? In the end, I waited 3x longer in line than it took to pick up the stuff I needed. BOO. I do commend their effort in recognizing their lengthy lines by sending an employee up and down each line offering cookies. In the end, Safeway still and will always have my business. read more

Meh...its a supermarket.... Good that i got free chips with my sandwich.... Bad that their chicken salad taste like crap....So far Safeway has the best chicken salad from a supermarket.... from the pictures.they have lactaid ice cream...i need to find!!! if they have a big selection...they get another star! read more

With all of the the coronavirus warnings, I was certain that Lucky would have precautions in place. There were no hand sanitizer wipes or gels as we entered and none in sight throughout the store! The self serve bakery and deli areas - nothing! Yet I got a dirty look from the lone butcher when I sneezed into my hands and pulled out my own Purell to prevent contact. read more

I wish this was called Albertsons again, but oh well! I love this place for what it is. One thing some people might not know and I'm not sure if they still do this. But, I called Lucky's florist several years back and they make boutonnieres and corsages. I believe it was only $3 for the boutonnières and $7 for the corsages. They only charged the price for the real flowers and threw in the baby's breath flowers to decorate the items. What a steal right? :) About $10 for REAL FLOWERS! No florist can beat THAT! This was the worst shopping experience ever. I used to shop here and think the world of this store, but it has definitely gone down hill. Shopped here last night . Knew it was going to be bad from the very beginning. There was a lady putting a single cart back and saw me walking to the carts, no acknowledgement, no hello, no offer of the cart, just stern eye contact, like I'm a leper or something. Next, when I walk in the store I hear a clerk yell, "Hey I think there's a bird in here and flaps her arms. I'm looking for an actual bird but I see a male worker run through the liquor aisle so I know it's a shoplifting runner, but why does it take 4-5 workers to nail this guy while I have to bag my own groceries?!!! Such a disappointment. I use this store because it's big and usually has everything I need. Well not so much in the customer service area.... I took a really hard fall in the store in the big puddle near the ice machine. A nice stranger helped me. A checker kind of called over are you ok? Produce is much better than any Safeway I have been to. Prices are lower too. They had a great sale today on cornish game hens that made me happy. Also, people there are actually happy and helpful - I randomly had 2 employees ask me if I needed help, or just smiled and said "Have a great day!" It's not amazing, but it works for me. read more

I just got back from Lucky's. There's a new baggier. Her name is Samantha. She must have had a few Star Buck coffees or something. I couldn't believe how she just threw the groceries in the bag, threw them into the basket. She was like in a race; and there was no one behind me. I shop at Lucky's but today I drove over to pick up my friend who is elderly and handicapped. A voter register man had his chair on the yellow customer pick up line and his ice chest on a table right beside the Pick up line is. She could not get her cart over to my car and I couldn't get out of traffic enough was very scary. A wonderful elderly senior grocery card pick up man, walked over and moved the chair but he couldn't move the table, they were trying so hard to get the groceries into the back seat of my car. I yelled at the man to move his table, he ignored me. Finally moved it back maybe a foot, not enough for them to get the cart to the door opening, I got out of the car on traffic side, and yelled move your stuff back, this is a customer pick up spot. Rude, ignorant and uncaring, called Lucky's manager to let him know how unsafe this is. If I ever see him again, I am calling the police and let them deal with him. read more

This has to be one of the worst stores i have ever been to in my emtire life! The so called manager Alvaro is a jerk for lack of better words. He is rude and has absolutely no customer service skills. What kind of manager swears at customers?!?!. The night staff is not only rude to customers, but also lack any training. Last night, 07/31/2013, my girlfriend and I went to the Lucky's in San Bruno. We initially went for baby wipes and a few incidentals. The store was pretty dead and there were mainly younger people buy alcohol. We finished up out shopping and had about 50 dollars worth of food and incidentals in the basket when we went to the register. I was extremely disappointed with the cashier, Roseanna (I believe). She was a silver haired older lady that was not generally pleasant. The whole transaction went to hell right from the beginning. She rang up 5 Glaceau Fruit Waters that were on sale 5 for $5.00. She rang them up and it came to a little over $8.00. I questioned her about the cost and she was highly confused and could not figure it out. I asked her to remove the fruit waters if she could not get them to ring up correctly. At this point she made a big deal about having to have another clerk come over and void the transaction. At this point I asked her to not ring them up. She continued to ring them up despite being asked not too. They rang up correctly this time so I let it slide. By this time, there was a large line because she was slower than molasses ringing everything up. She came across the Dulcolax that I had on the belt to be purchased and loudly proclaimed that my "bathroom problem would be better if I drank warm water and cereal before bed" for the entire line to hear. And to top it off, she did not bag it with the rest of the items I was purchasing, she handed it directly for the others to see what she was talking about. I was mortified that she would point out the fact that I was taking a medication for an issue such as constipation. Not only is it inappropriate, it is discriminatory. Perhaps I have a disability that causes me to have issues with constipation. She does not know this! She should not have pointed out loudly that I may possibly have a constipation problem for all within earshot to hear. She should not have flaunted it at all. I hope that there is disciplinary action for this matter. Should it have happened to someone with a disability, it would be a violation under the Americans with Disabilites Act and a financial liability for the store. I have been going to Lucky's since I was a kid, when my parents shopped there. I will no longer be going there. read more

Their '3s a Crowd Campaign' would be hilarious if it weren't so sorely needed. Had a good laugh/cry about along with 30 other people (I'm not kidding) waiting at two registers. Not sure when the 'extra registers' are supposed to be opened, but I've never been in a line shorter than 7 people (no express lanes) when shopping after 7 pm. With them being so close to the Safeway in Millbrae you would think that they would at least try to keep this place shopable. Instead, every time I shop here, even if it's just to buy 1 quick item, the lines are ridiculous! They only ever have 1-3 lanes open during their busiest times and 2/4 of their self checkouts are not working so it ends up taking you 30 minutes to "run in and out". To add to that, they also don't have a great select of produce or meat so I'm not really sure why anyone would do their grocery shopping here. read more

July, 2014 It has taken me some time to write this. I used to shop at the Lucky store in San Bruno, CA for years, spending thousands of my dollars on food and goods. No more, no more. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT in this store on El Camino Real again. An incident of couple months ago, whereas I forgot to bring a bag into the store resulted in being treated like a criminal. I bought 3 heads of cabbage and two pounds of bacon in a carry basket. Since I forgot to bring a bag of my own, I was using the basket to bring stuff to my car and bring the basket back. When I reached to door of the store, alarms went off. The result was three clerks and perhaps someone else of the store running after me. I feel that there needs to use some common sense and needs some sensitivity training there. Since this incident, I have changed my shopping habits to the Mollie Stone close to me, a Lunardi right up the hill, or shop at a couple of Safeways that are just as close at the Luckys. Many of the current employees are lacking in customer service skills and some are downright snobby! My biggest complaint though is when ever I go there in the late afternoon or early evening the front of the store outside is always dirty with trash just blowing around and no one seems to care. This includes the parking lot also! Lastly, allowing aggressive people to beg for money in front of the store makes me uncomfortable and I've notice it makes others uncomfortable too. I was truly upset with them this Wednesday. I went in to purchase some beer. That was it. Guess what? They do not have an express checkout! All of the checkouts had lines with carts FULL of groceries. The self checkouts are hardly used, so I thought I would give it a try. Lo and behold, the lady supervising these self checkouts informed me that beer could not purchased through a self checkout and that I would have to stand in a regular line. She said she was so sorry but I somehow I didn't believe she was sincere. I set the beer down and left. Just a thought, wouldn't an express lane make sense? I do not like and seldom use the automated lanes. They are full of problems. A living real person would be so much better and be able to provide real service. read more

I'm just reviewing the deli/sandwiches here. They were out of most bread types at lunch on the weekend. I got a sourdough turkey sandwich. The bread was pretty terrible, and the other ingredients were uninteresting. Even as grocery store lunches go, it wasn't good.
