Manager specials are a great value if you're looking for that particular item already
    Ramy H.

This lucky location is a bit outdated compared to their other stores, but it still provides the necessary staples to the small community of Marina. Because this is a less trafficked store, items sometimes sit on the shelves a bit longer, which is a good thing and a bad thing. It's bad if you're looking for the most fresh fish or meat products but good if you're hoping to score a deal on a store manager special which usually happens when items are close to their expiration date and the store manager will mark them down below their actual product cost. I've gotten lucky and purchased products like oat milk for $.50 or fresh salsa and guacamole for a whopping five cents. It's hard to say no to those prices when you see them!

It's not Whole Foods, or Gelsons, or Trader Joe's. It is a Lucky's Market. A good old fashioned middle of the road grocery store for working class folks like me! I have been shopping at this location since moving to Monterey County out of convenience. It is not necessarily my favorite grocery store of all times, but, it is sufficient enough for me to visit almost daily and or as needed. The prices are reasonable and the store is reasonably organized. I have always found what I needed and spent what I wanted on my budget. The ailses are clean and the staff respectful. I base my opinion also from the fact I have shopped at other Lucky's in the area and was disappointed. The Lucky's in Pacifice Grove, wow, the staff here was nearly always seriouosly obviously disgruntled. I shopped here occasionally as it is right outside my Pilates studio, which is no longer in session due to COVID, and also I have been to the Lucky's in Carmel, nice store, but not quite as good as favorite spot. The reason for 5 stars has to do with the pre-packaged salmon meals I purchase at the Marina Lucky's for $6.99. It is such a deal for a fantastic meal. The salmon is not local, it is Atlantic Salmon, but, it is so good! Nice big chunks of veggies clearly visible through the bag. I purchased this same meal at the Lucky's in Sand City, and the salmon was buried under small, miniscule sized cubes of squash. The salmon was decent, but veggies are not expensive, come on! Give it to me!! I just can't tell you how much I love these prepackaged meals. 24 minutes at 450 degrees in the oven and done. In a hurry you can microwave it, but I choose the oven. Or you can take it out of the bag and saute. Either way, good stuff. Cheers and happy shopping!

Plenty of space, all items in stock, and polite clerks that don't loiter in the isles and stare a you like in Salinas.

It's a small shop, and since I wasn't sure yet if I wanted a pastry, I ordered a coffee first while my husband looked at the case. One of the women behind the counter told me, "Usually you order pastries first and then we get the coffee at the end." The way it was said immediately made me feel uncomfortable, like I was somehow doing something wrong. I apologized and explained we weren't from here and I wasn't even sure yet if I wanted anything else. Their tone changed after that and became much friendlier, which honestly made the interaction feel even more awkward. My husband ended up ordering pastries, including a chocolate croissant for me, and both the latte and croissant were good. Sometimes the experience matters just as much as the food. It's hard to fully enjoy a place when your first impression made you feel unwelcome. I truly wanted to love this spot because it came so highly recommended as she visited it daily, but I left feeling more embarrassed than excited to return.

The cherry croissant was perfectly buttery and flaky, with the acidity of the cherry adding just the right kick to this breakfast pastry. I was initially hesitant on getting the clam chowder at a bakery and was thinking of getting it at a seafood restaurant on Cannery Row, but the reviews were glowing and the price was reasonable. I'm glad I took a chance on it, because the bowl was chockful with clams, potatoes, celery, and a briny creamy seafood broth base. The ambiance in this bakery is great- there's a beautiful wall mural on the back wall of this bakery and lots of inside seating. Don't miss out on this spot!

In good french bakery will never advertise $30 for 5 pastries. We ordered cappuccino and cafe a'laite . Worst ever. Bitter and tasted cheap cheap coffee. This is not french bakery/patisserie it was once. I doubt that it is under the same ownership. So very disappointing.

It didn't look like it died down which is awesome for this business. I believe I waited 20-30 minutes in line before I reached the display case. There were so many delicious things to choose from, it was a challenge to decide! I opted for a croissant sandwich, a blue corn cookie, and some sweet treats for the beach. I also ordered a seasonal latte, I believe it was cherry chocolate with oat milk less sweet. There's a nice outdoor seating area with many tables in chairs. Since the weather was nice we decided to stop and eat for a bit. The ambience was very nice and calm. The food was delicious and their house made pickles were fantastic. They were crisp, fresh, and complimented the turkey sandwich so well. The blue corn cookie was very interesting and reminiscent of a tortilla chip. I'd definitely come back here if I were in the area.

Latte was decent, not too bitter or acidic and it was creamy They try a lot of variations for pastries, both savory and sweet! The savory danish was really tasty and there was some pickled / citrus component that added more depth and made it super interesting to eat! The salmon croissant was alright, had a really nice flaky crust but the filling tasted kinda gamey , would've been nice to have another component to balance it out. Cookies were niceeeee the buckwheat choco cookie had nice amounts of sea salt and was like a brownie texture on the inside. Choco chip cookie was thin and crispy on the outside with chocolate blobs spread around, quite sweet though There was a line going out the door but only had to wait around 15 min!

However---I've eaten pastries in Paris, France and these American made versions seem much less soft. It could be the local water or some other factors. According to Google--there are 4 factors--1. higher fat butter used in France 2. specialized soft flour with no flour additives used in France 3. France has strict baking regulations 4. French people expect hyper fresh artisanal products. This bakery is locally made top quality. There is an outside seating area that's a little shabby and neglected. Very limited indoor seating. Service is ok. But, for someone such as myself, who has travelled around the world, lived overseas as an expatriate, and has formally studied multiple languages in universities in other countries, it's kind of ridiculous for a French girl behind the bakery counter to repress a laugh--that she obviously wanted me to see--at my pronunciation of one of their products. Give me a break! She clearly understood what I said since she retrieved it for me.

It has been around for about…read more12 years, and I have been coming here at least once every two weeks for that entire time. There are a lot of great bakeries, pastry shops, and cafés on the Monterey Peninsula, but this one has always stood out to me for its quality, consistency, and charm. They usually have at least 15 different varieties of French pastries, along with mini cakes, bite-size tiramisu, brownie bites, and premade sandwiches. Everything is beautifully presented, and you can tell they care about the details. I also order large amounts for my staff at least once a month, and they absolutely love when I bring these treats in. One of the best things they offer is their fresh focaccia flatbreads on Saturdays. If you're lucky enough to come in around 10 in the morning, you may catch them while they're still warm. They usually make three or sometimes four different varieties, depending on what the chefs decide to create that day. There isn't really a set menu for them, but in true French fashion, they put out whatever they feel inspired to make, and it is always amazing. The only problem is that they usually sell out within an hour, so you have to get there early. I honestly don't understand why they don't sell those focaccia flatbreads throughout the week, but I'm guessing it comes down to quality. They seem like perfectionists, and that is probably part of what makes everything so good. When you get one warm, it is absolutely worth the trip. The pastries are excellent, the quality is consistent, and the shop has become one of those dependable Carmel places that locals truly appreciate. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of their coffee, but I'll admit I'm a bit of a coffee snob. That doesn't take away from the overall experience at all. After 12 years of coming here regularly, I can confidently say this place is special. It is warm, consistent, high quality, and very much part of the Carmel community. Five stars for sure.
