Simple concept, done well. A true Bemidji gem! I have never had a bad experience, so the floor is high. However, as a hot dog restaurant, the ceiling is still a bit low (why it's not 5 stars). I've tried most of the 33 hot dog combinations at this point, some are better than others, but mostly it's a matter of taste preference. I recently had the Stretch (Italian beef and giardinara on a hot dog) with aus jus on the side and was very pleased. In my experience, I recommend upgrading to a bratwurst (better quality meat). I also like to get a giant pickle for a side, especially on a hot day. And do spring for the chocolate covered key lime pie bar for dessert--a truly unique treat. There is minimal inside seating, because it's a seasonal restaurant. That's okay, because the best way to enjoy is sitting outside in their patio area on a lovely afternoon or evening. You can order to go, but again, it's a much better dining experience to stay and sit outside. I don't think the food translates well in other contexts. Service is quick and responsive. They deliver food out to the table, and they are friendly in coming back to ask how you're doing. You order and pay at the window, and they bus the table after you leave, so you needn't worry about just getting up and leaving when you're ready. read more

Stopped by for lunch in my way through town. Was lucky to catch a great day that wasn't too busy! Decided to try the Route 66 and it was delicious. It was delivered to my table in no time. This little walk up hot dog place is on a corner spot in Bimidji, MN. We were visiting the area, doing the statue walk around town and came across this place. We decided to try one as a snack before we headed back to the lake. They had many unique offerings! We got the gear grinder hot dog. It was messy to eat because there were so many toppings falling off while trying to take a bite. The gal working the window was friendly and stopped by our little picnic table a couple of times to see how we were liking the hot dog. read more

What a fun menu they have and much to my delight, they have vegetarian options! Getting a decent hot dog has been tough since making the fantastic decision to stop eating pork, beef, chicken or other land dwelling meat but stumbling across Lucky Dogs has given me an outlet to scratch that itch! I got the dog with the mac and cheese and to my delight, I liked it quite a bit. The service here was pretty good especially considering the COVID concerns we have to deal with now. Pricing is in line with other hot dog places I have eaten at before and certainly nothing to keep you away. Add Lucky Dogs to your rotation, you will probably be glad you did. read more

I love places like this. Run by a local and as a small business that she obviously takes pride in. We have family in town and this is our favorite place in Bemidji for lunch. The menu selection is fun and creative. We travel a lot and this place is like a single place in West Virginia, but nothing else. I love lucky dogs. It's affordable and a good place to stop and eat while walking in downtown Bemidji. My only complaint is sometimes the heating is uneven, like it was just put in the microwave. But, staff is nice, seating and ambience is nice. Overall pretty good. read more

I just had Lucky Dogs for the first time in June and loved it so much I've been back 4x. We brought the pups on leashes and ordered them each a solo dog. They loved it! What a unique menu! There seems to be something for everyone here. Ordering service was pretty quick. I got the 409 and the Route 66. I took a seat at a sunny table with a view of Lake Bemidji and waited, and waited? Kind of a long wait for a couple hot dogs. My Route 66 came first, and I'm grateful it was accompanied by a fork. Chili, ranch, and fritos was a delicious if not messy combo. The chili had the chili flavor without too much heat so it should suit most palates. The hot dog itself I think was an all-beef dog, no thick skin to give it a snap or be tough to tear through. The bun held up well through all the toppings. It was your classic white bun, but it was larger than the 8pack from the grocery. Next up my 409 has been delivered. Raw garlic topped with shredded cheddar. YUM. If you're in a relationship or going to be in close quarters with others (or even just wearing a mask) this garlic smell will be no secret. Lucky for me, I love raw garlic. Their service was very friendly and fast. I got the Chicago style dog although I can't remember the name they call it. And potato salad, I was very unimpressed. I would have thought that I would get a quality hot dog but honestly it tasted like a fun dog, I was expecting maybe a stitsworth got dog or downtown meats hot dog so I was disappointed. Also the taste was not great, the price point was 4.75 for the one I got we ordered two specialty hot dogs and 2 plain hot dogs 3 drinks(which they forgot about when our food was brought to us). The potato salad was so bland tasted like potatoes mixed with mayonnaise nothing more not even a hint of salt and pepper. To be fair I didn't have a dog. But I'm a cole slaw fanatic and this place did not disappoint. Not too creamy, a little sweet, a little tangy, finely chopped cabbage. Excellent. I also had the potato salad which I don't usually order because it can be pretty unremarkable. Not here! Very balanced flavors and has mustard in it which is amazing. Also it doesn't try to be more than it isn't with weird ingredients which I appreciate. I was just looking for a snack but was hugely impressed by the many options on their menu. Dogs and brats with all kinds of toppings and combos. Very interesting stuff. I could easily have lunch here every day eating my way through the menu. The other reason I had to write this review is that the folks who run the place couldn't be friendlier. There's ample patio seating and it's just a block away from the lake. I never would have thought I could have such an amazing hot dog! I ordered one with fresh garlic and mozzarella cheese from the awesome servers, and it was one of the best things I have ever had! They have a fun 1950's feel with a huge and yummy menu. Outdoor seating that allows leashed dogs (they even have watering stations for your furry friend), great side dishes, and fresh beverages.
