I discovered this bar when they were doing a raffle to kick off the St.Patricks Day Parade. I had a blast. The bartenders were fast, efficient, and super friendly My friend was ordering baby Guinness shots and the one bartender realized it was mixing too much and remade it. That says a lot about the quality of this place in how they aren't going to put anything bad out. This is now going to be a bar I'll be highly recommending to friends.

The other components of the dish included fried bangers (sausages), black & white pudding (blood sausage & pork), baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, bacon, and another small puck of sausage, as well as brown bread and butter. It was a great value with some items I liked and some I didn't due to personal preference, not because anything wasn't prepared well, as it all appeared to be cooked properly. My girlfriend ordered the Celtic Grilled Cheese with bacon, arugula, aged white cheddar, aioli, grilled tomatoes on toasted sourdough. Her sandwich looked amazing, and I regret not asking for a bite. That may be a future order for me. She loved it! I also ordered the County Clare Bloody Mary, which is made with their own seasoning blend and served with a chaser of Harp beer. They asked me how spicy I wanted it, and I said medium, which I think they nailed. This was one of the best Bloodies I've had in town! Overall, a nice brunch experience with good service and a great ambience. I do want to return to try more brunch items.

The atmosphere and decor are warm, moody, and cozy as one would expect from a British pub. Prices are decent for the Brady area. The scotch eggs were good. Small and delicious bites of protein goodness. My favorite thing was the fish fry/fish and chips. The fish was the best part because it was flaky with a light, crispy batter. Now there are two things that didn't go well. The first is the Lancashire hotpot. Traditional ones are supposed to have thin potatoes all covered over the top. This one only had a few on the side. See the picture below. The menu even said "topped with potatoes." The stew itself just tasted like ground beef in beef broth. It was sad. Service was not good. Our server never checked on us the whole night after taking our order. We couldn't get any drink refills and had to flag down a different server to close out our order. I generally enjoy British food and will come back to give them another chance. I would order different things next time, though.

We got lucky and had bar seats open up after about 5 minutes which allowed us to grab cocktails and relax. After a bit we ordered some Brussel sprouts as an appetitizer and before they could show up our table opened up. My wife chose the 2 piece cod fry with chips while I opted for the perch fry with fries. Everything was spectacular. The bartenders were jumping around each other to keep people happy at the bar and the rest of the staff get people's bellies filled with food. If you go keep in mind there are no reservations and will probably be a wait, but they will take great care of you and serve you some awesome fish!

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.

Made our experience super easy and perfectly pleasant. Grilled wings Ooh, these were perfectly grilled. Very tasty sauce (hot honey garlic, at Thomas' recommendation) that wasn't overdone or underdone - just the right amount. I usually get my wings naked because so many places go wrong with the amount of sauce (usually just too drenched), but since we were on a timeline tonight, we just ordered without asking for anything else. So glad we did! By the way, not fried wings, so not super crunchy on the outside but still crispy and not at all soggy. And super moist, perfect temp inside. Tap Guinness Perfectly poured with just the right amount of cream on top. Hany is usually an IPA man, and went Guinness this time and did not regret it! Date of visit: November 20, 2025…read more We had not been here in years, but came with some friends for the Milwaukee County Historical Society trivia. It definitely seemed that the staff here were simply not prepared for the volume of people that came out to celebrate the area and support the Historical Society. Emma, our server, was definitely trying, but not always succeeding, neglecting to enter in some parts of the order until far later into the evening (our friends didn't receive their order of garlic bread for about 45 minutes after their entrees were delivered) though oddly enough, she was always ready to bring someone another alcoholic beverage. Thankfully the food I had was pretty good, the grilled cheese sandwich paired well with their tomato bisque soup--I took a chance on the soup not being a traditional tomato soup fan (Campbell's? Gross!) but I found Three Lions version to be hearty and flavorful, definitely a combo that I would get again in the future. I would just come on a night when they could keep up with the crowds far better! Pro tip: Ask for croutons for the soup, they elevated a good soup to an amazing soup.
