We were looking for a reputable roofing company. I found Lucid which had great reviews! I confirmed with Daniel Bussey, their salesperson, that they only use their employees, and work IS NOT subcontracted out that way the company would be responsible if something happened. He assured me they were their employees.
Our big day was July 29th! Leo Bernal was the project supervisor that was sent out. The crew got here early in the morning and went to work. While removing old shingles and throwing them to the ground, sections of shingles hit the siding of my home causing scuffs to the siding (see pics), tarps weren't put down over the flower bed which was ironically where they decided to throw most of the shingles from the front of my home, however tarps were put over some of the grass.
When my husband got home from work, he came in and asked if I had seen all the beer cans in the yard. We went outside to speak with the supervisor and there were lots of beer cans scattered with the roofing debris in our yard!
At one point, I looked over and saw my new shingles were bent and cracked over our garage where the crew had their ladder!!!! After pointing it out to Leo, he said he'd take care of the shingles, but nothing was done so we had to reach out to Daniel. We went ahead and expressed that we weren't happy about the crew drinking and Daniel seemed just as upset.
I was told the crew denied drinking and was asked for proof-This was frustrating as now the supervisor they sent out isn't being honest-so we asked that Leo not return for the roof replacement. There's no way Leo didn't know the crew was drinking...we were talking with a beer can at our feet. Luckily, we had discreetly grabbed 2 pictures of their beer cans on the ground and going through the Ring doorbell camera, you can see the guys have a stocked beer cooler they are pulling from. At one point, a beer rolls off the roof. It's picked up and thrown back up.
On July 31st, Lucid sent Supervisor John Castillo out to inspect the work the crew did. I was told there's scarred shingles and that that can be caused just by walking on the shingles in this heat. However, Mark, an owner of Lucid, told me in an email "I will tell you that I am very disappointed with the workmanship that was performed at your house. Immediately I told John that we will need to reroof the front of the house."
It originally took the crew 1 full day to remove and replace my entire roof. The fix took an additional 2 full days and that only included removing and replacing 1/2 of my roof!!! I believe they found more damage while re-doing our roof on 8/5 because they had a delivery on 8/4 and then another much larger delivery including a ridge vent on 8/5 (pics with dates for proof) and continued working through 8/6-again, I'm not told specifics on what all was wrong-only that there were scarred shingles.
After knowing their company messed up my roof and prior to starting to repair it, Daniel was already asking me for payment!
Lucid did our ridge vents while replacing the roof. In the contract they are supposed to vacuum the attic and go around with a metal sweeper outside for nails. Neither were done EITHER time! I had to rent a magnet sweeper two different times and spent a few of my hours cleaning up after them. Ultimately collecting over 1lb 10oz of nails (see pics) left for my pets and vehicle tires to find. I'm disabled and it's too hot for me in the attic so that clean up will have to wait until winter.
The crew spray painted exposed preexisting flashing making it look like it has been graffitied and got overspray on the surrounding areas of siding.
Ultimately, I felt like I had no choice but to get a different company to come out and check Lucid's work as I felt I no longer trusted them.
The inspecting company did find a hole they said was probably from a dropped tool and recommended I request Lucid secure some flashing down prior to my last payment.
After this experience, I highly recommend getting your roof inspected by a different company after having it replaced. read more
