Fun experience for a first timer. We had a great table & sat right in the front center table. Doesn't get much better than that. They offer professional pictures but my husband and I went off and took our own. It gets warm in the tent so if you're not used to heat, keep that in mind. Food is good - drinks are unlimited. Enjoy

The white tent just gives off a wedding feel to the ambience.

During my visit to Kaua'i, all the luaus were sold out. A concierge happened to find the last 3 tickets available to this luau. The cost was $103 per person, $80 if you go to their timeshare presentation. According to her, this luau hosted by the Marriott was the best luau on the island because it was the most traditional. I wish I had done my research on this luau before buying the tickets. When we first pulled up to the tiny parking lot, I saw a big white tent and said "oh no". We went rushing to the luau trying to arrive early to get good seats, but we arrived only to find out that we had reserved seating. I was really disappointed with the setting, especially when a big name like Marriott is hosting, I expected a nice big stage adorned with flowers and torches with a beautiful view of the ocean or a garden...but saw a small stage under a white tent with a view of the old hotel. The only things I liked about this luau were the open bar, the food was actually good, and we got a nice family picture taken. This luau had such a low-budget feel, the dancers were good, but I felt like I was at a recital than a luau.

Amazing experience, good food, good service and friendly environment. The host of the show is funny and and had the crowd well entertained in between acts. Dancers are beautiful and danced so beautifully.. loved every moment of the show.

Incredibly gifted group. The musicians & dancers are extremely talented. Great venue at the Sheraton with wonderful food and decent options, including vegetarian items. The luau was worth every penny. We had the ability to interact with the artists who each wear several hats to make the event work and run smoothly. The program was longer than expected (in a good way) and got better and better as the night went on. I wish we could've made a circle around the fire dance. It was amazing, but a little difficult to see. That may be a liability issue preventing us from being closer. I give Luau Makaiwa 5 stars and highly recommend it. I love that it was authentic.

What an amazing experience. The Dancers has so much energy and the dancing was beautiful. The men had strong performances and the singing was mesmerizing. Delicious food and drinks. The host educated us on the different styles and history of Hula influences around the world.

Not really impressed with this luau. It was sold to us as being kid friendly although we got yelled at for being up by the stage with our 18month old (prior to anything going on, on the stage) we also got told not to walk in the grass behind the stage during the show (when we bought the tickets we were told we could, our 19 month old was getting a little restless). The food was good but nothing special and the majority of the show is hula, over and over again. Depending on what the weather is, having the luau under a tent was nice although humid. If I were going to go to another luau it would not be this one. The only reason we went to it was because we were staying at the same hotel. Very disappointed.

Awesome entertainment! Such a talented group of performers! My bf and I liked the smaller venue. There's an open bar and their mai tais were good-not watered down at all. Plenty of food and it was delicious. There are local vendors selling their items which gave me a chance to buy more gifts.

The shrimp rolls were packed with flavor and accompanied by a salty and spicy wasabi soy dipping sauce that really elevated the dish. While the fried chicken was great, it was overshadowed for me by the quality of the other dishes we tried there. The staff were extremely friendly and answered our questions and made us feel very welcome. The interior is nothing fancy and there is no on site seating, but there are plenty of great places to eat nearby. We took our meal a block down to Kauai Fruit Company (where we bought several truly amazing containers of fruit to accompany our meal) and sat at their picnic tables.

And take it, somewhere else, to eat. No tables or seats, in this market. We ate ours, in the car, before heading to the airport. It was delicious, really fresh. Opens at 6am, so has that "We just caught this" feel. And not as "Pricey" as some Yelp Reviewers claimed it to be.

Lol We had the cali-style poke with spicy mayo & avocado and the sweet Maui onion poke -- both were deliciously perfect! My husband had the 2 item combo with kalua pork and poke adobo; both were very tasty -- the pork adobo was nice and tender and not too salty (just right). The service was friendly and fairly quick. There are a few picnic benches nearby, other than that this is not a dine-in location -- strictly to-go. Highly recommend and will definitely come back next time we're on the island!

I had the mahi mahi, my husband had the filet mignon, and we split the arugula salad--each of those dishes was excellent. Our friends shared the pasta and really enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately, the appetizers and dessert were disappointing. I wouldn't recommend the firecracker shrimp; it was soggy and there was no "fire" or kick at all. We also tried the oysters, which we were told were fresh from Washington State, but they didn't smell or taste fresh to us, and they were so large we couldn't eat them. Dessert was another miss--the chocolate torte was dry and tasted like cardboard. One other issue: the wind was whipping through the restaurant the entire time, making it uncomfortably cold. We ended up wearing our raincoats throughout dinner, which really took away from the experience. Overall, great service and strong entrees, but the temperature/wind problem and the uneven appetizer/dessert quality would make us think twice about returning.

The service was outstanding from the hostess, bar tenders, chefs and our wonderful server, Kapua!! She was so friendly and always checked on us without being intrusive. We have been on the island for 6 nights. Each evening we have tried Mai Tai's. Lava Lava's are by far the best!!! They are not too sweet and a good pour! We got there early as the other reviews said it gets crowded and they do not take reservations. We arrived at 5 pm on a Wednesday and were seated right away closest to the beach. For our starter we had edamame which was a large portion and so good. My husband ordered the Chicken Pineapple Rice Bowl and substituted the chicken for the coconut shrimp. The rice was AMAZING as well as the shrimp, but our only complaint was the portion was very small and was served with only 3 shrimp. The picture looks like you get a lot, but it came in a carved out SMALL pineapple. The presentation was beautiful though. I had the Ceasar salad and added chicken. It was so good!!! The lettuce was so crisp! Nothing worse than a Ceasar salad with wilty romaine lettuce. I've had plenty of those in my day. This was one of the best I've ever had! Everything arrived in a timely manner. We had a great night. Side note...they offer free valet parking which is at the very top of the parking lot. I have nothing but high praises for Lava Lava's beach club!! You must check it out for yourself. You will be so happy you did!

We went on a Saturday around lunchtime and it wasn't too busy. There is a small parking lot near the restaurant on the left hand side. It was filled when we first got there, but we were luckily able to get a spot. I could see this lot filling up quickly during other meal rush hours, so do take note if you plan on driving. The ordering is done like your typical poke place, you tell the service worker what you would like and there's a small toppings bar at the end before the cashier. There was a small line when we went, and even with the line, it still only took about 5-10 minutes to get our food. There isn't interior seating in the restaurant though, you will have to get your food take out, or just eat in the parking lot. I got the 3 scoops of poke option for $15.25, and I think that this is a pretty solid deal for the variety of fish that you can try out! I think based on my personal experience on Kaua'i, it will be difficult to get food, especially poke at a reasonable price. But for this price, it's probably the best place on the island to get poke without paying $20+ for the same variety. The fish tasted fresh, and I am a fan of the selection of toppings they had. If you are in the Lihue area and looking to try some poke at a reasonable price, I would recommend The Fish Express!
