Loved our experience here! Our food was great, and the drinks were awesome! Great selection for drinks, and dog friendly patio. Our wait staff was also wonderful. Would come back.

Super busy on a Wednesday night, I came in by myself and after a brief wait in line was seated outside. While it was hot, luckily my table was shaded. My server was friendly, though I had to remind her for a glass for the water carafe I was served. I tried the Call it Dreaming beer which was a toasty coconut flavored Hefeweizen, I thought it was very well crafted. I had the chicken Cesar wrap even though I was warned the burgers are the most popular item;however after four days of work travel, I needed something a little different. I thought it was decent though the menu said there were croutons in the wrap and I didn't see any. I ended the night with the slushy of the day and it was refreshing, tasted good and was visually appealing.

Chose Lua Brewing for Dinner because it was close to Hoyt. We had a little bit of a wait. I started with a Climbing Kites Mixed Berry which tasted fine. The Smush Burger with American Cheese, fried onions, pickles, and Lua Sauce. I wasn't expecting it to be so incredibly delicious. I got the Lua Sauce on the side because I wanted to taste just the burger. This has to be one of the best burgers. How does this place not get recognized or have I just been sleeping because the burger is phenomenal. Juicy, great flavor, and the Lua Sauce is excellent as well. The fires were very good too. The Service was good. A minor annoyance is the 3% fee for CC. Paid cash and still got the 3% fee. Just figure it into the price of business if you're going to get charged for it either way. Just an annoyance. Will definitely return for the burger. Sorry haters I felt it was better than Lachelle's, better flavor. Just my opinion.

While in town, I was on the hunt for the best brewpub for beer and food. After several recommendations, I found myself at Lua. It did not disappoint! First of all, it has free parking! This is clutch since Des Moines has paid parking everywhere. The servers were all friendly and welcoming. The space is open, has lots of room, and clean. It also has a beautiful patio with a great view of downtown . A great vibe! To drink, I tried the Sun for Miles IPA and Call It Dreaming coconut Hefeweizen. While I liked both, I got the full pour of the Call it Dreaming because it was delectable. Yum! Lua has a fabulous lunch deal! I was able to get an entree with two sides for $15. What a steal!!! If I lived in town I would come all the time! I got the open-face burger with fries and a salad as my two sides. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and filling...triple threat. I walked away full and happy...and without a hole in my pocket book. I look forward to returning to Lua when I am next in town to try more great beer and food!

My second time in Lua while visiting friends in Des Moines. Service.was prompt and friendly seating our party of 5. The Call It Dreaming coconut Hefeweizen is probably one of my all time favorite beers. They offer a spectacular lunch special of any sandwich with 2 sides for $15. I got the grilled veggie sandwich, which was absolutely delectable with a side of fries and house salad. The salad was much bigger than expected with fresh veggies and dressing. The fries were crisped to perfection. This is a spot I will go to every time I'm in town!

Great outdoor - indoor space - their sours were so so juicy! Food was great too! They were extremely accommodating when we came 5 mins before kitchen closing! Their carrot ginger soup was delish

I came here after running the Des Moines half marathon before heading to the airport. The smash burger is legit! So good! And I'm pretty picky, coming from Chicago. If you like a good smash burger, you would be disappointed. I got 3 samplers for the beer and all were good. No complaints there either. Huge outdoor painful and lots of seating inside also. I sat at the bar because I was solo but it was pretty busy when I arrived around 1pm on a Sunday. I would definitely come back again!

Food was good enough. Waitress was more interested in her phone. We had to go find her to get our bill to leave.

They have a decent inside with several little areas that are semi closed which would make this a good place for group functions. The patio outside is pretty big. There is a variety of table sizes, so large parties can be accommodated. They also have several fire pit areas for groups. The inside has 2 large bar seating options. There are plenty of TVs inside and outside in case you are looking for a place to watch sports.

It is right off the trail, has free water, free live music, free bike parking, and a great patio. Add in cold local beer at fair prices, and it is pretty hard to complain. The people serving were mostly friendly, the beer was very good, and the selection is always great. If you go inside and head up the stairs, the selection gets even better. My only suggestion: please consider selling mix-and-match 4-packs or single cans to go. We wanted to buy some to take with us, but we could not agree on one flavor, so we skipped buying more and just stuck with what came out of the tap. For cyclists, bridge beers and bike beers are a real thing, and it feels like there is a missed opportunity there. That said, we will absolutely be back for all the "free" stuff, the local beer, and that amazing patio. Great trail stop, great beer, and a perfect place to take a break. Keep up the Lord's work. Cheers!

Given the availability of a table and its proximity to the Wicked show presentation last night, we decided to give it a try again with our guests. While all of the food we had was definitely above average, the service was extremely slow - both for beverages and food. After almost 10 minutes without anyone stopping at the table, I decided to walk up to the bar to order a beer - since I wanted to sample a couple before making a choice anyway. While our waitress showed up while I was gone, took drink orders for the others and apologized profusely for not knowing that she was covering our table...it didn't get any better from there. My drink (from the bar) was completely consumed before the others were delivered at the table. Our table reservation was at 6:00, so we thought we had plenty of time to eat and get to our 7:30 showing. However, it turned out to be after 7:00 before our food arrived, as we waited over 30 minutes, with apologies for the delays and assurances that it was almost ready. Finally, on to the food. My wife ordered the 12oz Ribeye w/ Crispy Reds (see picture). The flavor was good and it was cooked as ordered (Medium Rare) - however, it was cool to the touch, so was obviously setting outside of a warmer for an extended period. The Crispy Reds potatoes were quite tasty, especially when dipped in the side of ranch dressing (yes, I stole more than 1 of them). I ordered the Korean Bowl based on a strong recommendation from the waitress and really enjoyed it. The flavor was great and the sauce on the beef was very good. My only caution on it was brought to my attention by my wife - who pointed out that it was extremely salty. Yes, it would be even better with about half of the added salt. Overall, the location relative to our intended evening venue was great and the food was above average...just make sure that you allow plenty of time to get your food and drinks.

Our waiter was nice, although I feel like she disappeared sometimes. But it was okay because we were sitting in the bar area, where there weren't too many people. There was another dining area that was much busier. I got the Caesar salad and the CABco sandwich. WOW! The Caesar salad was THE BEST CAESAR SALAD I'VE EVER TASTED. Seriously, I would come back every day just for that! The CABco sandwich was also good, but I felt like the sliced ribeye itself lacked flavor, and my mom's steak didn't taste like much either. Maybe the beef here just isn't seasoned very heavily. However, the sauce paired really well with the bell peppers, onions, and cheese. I would have liked the cheese to be a little more stretchy, but once I soaked the bread in the juice on the side, WOW--it was delicious! My mom's steak also came out overcooked at first, so she had to wait about another 10 minutes for them to bring out a new one. She did really like the ratatouille side, though, which was made with vegetables. I thought it was a little lacking in flavor, but overall, I'd definitely come back--especially for that Caesar salad!

Since it was Happy Hour pricing (app. 1/3 off the items we checked), the Value bumps to a 5* for this trip. All things considered, I like Barn Town Brewing and really like a few of their beers - not to mention, they are close to home. Because we were here for a Happy Hour review, we ordered only from their Happy Hour menu (all of which have pictures included below). My wife started with an amber Core beer, while I chose the Featured Flight - since it included several of their beers that I hadn't yet sampled. For our meal, we ordered the Bavarian Pretzels (see picture), Crab Rangoon Flatbread (see picture) and Wings, split between Buffalo & Honey Hot (see picture). The Pretzels are just what you would expect and the combination of mustard and cheese dipping sauces were a great complement. The wings were also tasty, although several admittedly appeared to come from a pretty deformed chicken. The flatbread would be the only thing I wouldn't order again. I expect very thin to cracker type crusts for flatbread and this was more of a thick / deep dish pizza type of crust (the picture shows it, about 1/2" thick). Further, the sauces / topping were a bit sparce - so it was quite bready and dry. If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow.

I had experienced Barn Town at a beer festival and researched them before visiting town, so I know the experimental candy-influenced collabs are kind of their thing. The PB and Grape Jelly sour was nice and the Watermelon Sour Batch Buddies was the best of the State Fair themed bunch. Everything else packed too much of a flavor punch for me... to the point of upsetting my stomach which NEVER happens when I drink beer. I would actually go back and try some of their flagship (normal) beer offerings and food specials to get a more well rounded opinion of the brewpub.
