I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I think it's important to share my experience so others…read more-- especially clients with fine hair, sensory sensitivities, or low-maintenance needs -- can make informed decisions.
I came in with clear reference photos and explained exactly what I wanted: a soft strawberry-blonde tone with a subtle fade into lighter ends, and light, wispy, center-focused bangs that work well when my hair is worn up. I also made it clear what I didn't want, and that this needed to be a low-maintenance look because I don't have the budget to maintain frequent root touch-ups. The goal was for my roots to stay close to my natural color so the grow-out would be easy and affordable.
Unfortunately, the results were far from what we discussed.
The cut:
My bangs were cut extremely thick, uneven, and far wider than I requested. Some pieces were cut so short they stick straight up, and the bang section wasn't blended into the rest of my hair. The stylist also razor-cut my bangs and some layers -- a technique not suited for fine, postpartum-regrowth hair -- which created choppy, inconsistent pieces that fall sideways instead of centered. When I voiced concerns while still in the chair, I felt rushed because another client was waiting, and the only suggestion was to "wear them differently" or return on another day, even after I explained I wouldn't be in town.
The color:
My roots processed into a very bright, hot red -- the opposite of low-maintenance. This now requires upkeep I cannot afford. I specifically chose a look that would let my natural roots grow out cleanly, and instead was given a color that will leave a clear line of demarcation and require repeated corrections. There were also unblended blonde stripes in the back that I didn't ask for. I was told the color would "fade naturally," but after one wash it shifted into an even brighter copper-red, not the muted strawberry-blonde I requested. I was also told gloss and toner were essentially the same thing, which is inaccurate and left me feeling misinformed.
Sensory/Disability considerations:
As someone with sensory sensitivities and a neurodivergent background, uneven bangs and unpredictable lengths are more than just an inconvenience -- they're a genuine sensory trigger. The razor texture, uneven weight distribution, and short interior pieces caused discomfort that impacted my daily functioning. Proper technique and attentive communication are crucial for clients like me, and that care was not present.
What happened afterward:
I sought a second professional opinion, where a stylist confirmed that both the cut and color were not executed correctly. To her credit, the original stylist did provide a full refund, which I appreciate. However, I now have to book a corrective service elsewhere after saving up for this appointment and hoping to feel confident going into an important week.
I'm sharing this experience so others -- especially those needing low-maintenance color, clear communication, or sensory consideration -- can make informed choices. Attached below are the style and color I requested, and then the coloring I got.
