Sure enough, they found a number of expenses that were incorrectly categorized. This resulted in a refund from previous years and a reduction in our tax liability today. What a positive change it has been to work with a firm that specializes in taxes.

During our very first 'official' meeting to go over some documentation she prepared, I had to completely re-explain everything I was needing. Not only that, but the paperwork she completed was incorrect and disorganized. After 4 months of back and forth, explaining my situation numerous times, we finally completed all of the required tax documentation (or so I thought). Since then, I've received 4 new notices from the IRS and Social Security Administration, stating they're missing documentation that Renne was supposed to have prepared and sent. Now I can't get ahold of her at all. I've been emailing her for 3 weeks without response. She will not answer her phone and her voicemail box is full and can no longer accept new messages. Worst, most-inexperienced, disorganized 'accountant' I've ever dealt with. Stay away.

Buyer Beware I…read morecannot recommend this accountant. I hired her for tax preparation. Although she functioned as a tax return preparer only, in the course of serving my annual needs she gratuitously recommended a retirement plan strategy which I adopted. Another provider set up the retirement plan and this is not the complaint. For every tax year after adoption the CPA was provided with the written account statement data related to retirement plan assets--the same data that would be required for tax return preparation. Notwithstanding, Mary Gallagher did not mention to me that another annual return of retirement plan information needed to be filed with the IRS (annual Form 5500-EZ). The delinquency of this return information led to an IRS penalty for failure to file the 5500-EZ on time. The primary issue with this CPA is the quality and consistency of her guidance--on the one hand, she provided the gratuitous tax advice dispensed here but, at the same time, she dropped the ball when it came to the necessary follow-up which is pointing out to her client the need to prepare and timely file the annual 5500-EZ, especially when all information necessary to the completion and filing of the 5500-EZ was supplied to her for regular income tax return preparation. This amounts to inconsistent care for her client. When I brought it to her attention and asked her to take responsibility for it, she refused and cited an engagement letter that excused her own culpability for failure to at least follow-up with me in connection with advice provided previously. After all, she is the one who recommended the retirement plan itself! If the advice to adopt the retirement plan was gratuitous then follow-up details about annual information return preparation and filing should have been supplied, as well. A reliable and competent CPA should provide accurate technical guidance. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Mary Gallagher CPA, LLC. Business owners and individuals should look elsewhere for dependable and competent tax representation.

Thank-you, Mary, for your attention to detail and inherent integrity.

I had also migrated to online Quickbooks in March after 14yrs of using desktop (which I have always managed 100% myself) and had a couple issues I couldn't sort out myself. General Ledgers' website boasts that they offer QB training, setup, cleanup, etc. so I asked and Margie said that after 4/15 (and then a week off to recuperate) she could help me with that, how to pay myself more appropriately so I'm not taxed so heavily and also offered to look at my 2021 return. Everything went smoothly as far as picking up my 2023 taxes, I even got 2022 amended (which is why I'll be fair and give TWO stars...). Paid almost $1700. Waited until 4/24 and tried to drop off my Quickbooks issues and reports. No one there. Tried again 4/25, no one there. 4/26 I put everything in an envelope and dropped it through the mail slot as no one was there. There are no business hours posted on the building, on the door, on the website, and not even on Google. I then waited and waited. I emailed at the end of May asking for an update. No response. I emailed a week later, no response. I finally called, had to leave a voicemail because no one answered, emailed and also sent a message through the website on 6/10 before I got my FIRST response and that email response? "Hope you're doing well, got your voicemail, what questions did you have?" She apparently completely forgot she was going to help me and I'm thinking hadn't even been in office to see what I'd left. I wrote back saying that I dropped off all this stuff, my 2021 return etc. 24hrs later, I got another response - yes we have your documents, we'll be in touch if we need anything further. She also asked if the desktop reports were the most accurate. She asked me nothing else. 7/15 I emailed yet again after hearing nothing for over a month (meanwhile my inventory and COGS is getting further and further out of hand) and Margie finally emailed back. She finally found the time to make a couple of adjustments and wish me a good day. She didn't help fix my inventory problem at all, she told me nothing about how to pay myself, she just zero'd out my inventory assets altogether, QB now shows that I owe more than $39,000 in back sales tax, (and this is only what I've found so far) and when I finally got upset about the lack of communication and basic customer service and continued ISSUES in QB, she accused me of not understanding accounting at all or Quickbooks (and to take some classes as she is not a tutor, although her website says she will come to you for training!) and accused me of trying to get something from her for free. How absolutely insulting. I was a paying customer in April and I was intending to pay for her help with this as well and have NO IDEA where she came up with the idea that I wasn't! I wanted more personalized detail given to my migration issues - exactly why I relied on HER versus calling QB customer service which is actually free! She also told me to come pick up my 2021 return. I tried this morning at nearly 10:00am. No one there.
