We got back to the car after less than 1 hr spent at the blowhole, a man setting up the vendor tent had told us we can't park there. My parents had explained they didn't know and didn't see the print under the car, and apologized to the man. He continued on and made disrespectful remarks to my father, saying "you can't read?" "You don't understand what emergency means?" after my father was trying to explain himself, emphasizing he wasn't aware. My mother had stepped in to continue to defend that our intentions weren't to ignore the parking spot sign, and call him out for his disrespectful remarks. He began to act defensive that he was just going off of what my father had stated, saying "but he told me he didn't understand what it meant, that's what he said". This man's tone was extremely disrespectful and dismissive, and very obviously meant to embarrass us. Our defensive remarks were used to express we didn't know, not that we chose to be ignorant or that the man was wrong. It was not until he was continuously rude that we began to speak to him in the same manner. When my parents got into the car, I confronted him about his attitude and disrespect and he continued to defend his rude remarks with "but he said he didn't know", insinuating that it's okay he made those comments since he's speaking off of the "fact" my father stated he didn't understand the word. We apologized when initially confronted, and as tourists we are very obviously not from the area, and it was our mistake parking in a spot that was not meant for us. In no way do we intend to explore an island and disrespect the law, people, or land. While I am sure ignorant people have come as tourists, it is not our intention. For someone to make comments towards my foreign father stating that he can't read or understand an English word while they are conversing in English is the most disrespectful thing that you can do, and I am extremely disappointed in my experience. People make mistakes and I am grateful emergency services weren't needed and that we did not delay any medical care if someone had needed it. It was truly a mistake and to have been belittled by a stranger for it was uncalled for.
