Upon walking in we were seated right away and the service is quick and easy. The look of this place is very nice and I love the architecture. Very unique and fits the theme of China Town. Floral and lots of acccents with vibrant colors. Elegant look and has music playing in the background. The way you order is very interesting because you have to go up to a register and order there. They have a lot of good options in their menu (a bit pricey though), but the taste of the food will determine if the price worth it. I also like how you can make your own seafood boil too. But I prefer getting a menu item since you would be spending more money. Food came in very quick, maybe took like 10 minutes. The food was okay. The one I got wasn't too bad, but I will say that it was very salty. I got weak sauce w garlic. Wouldn't recommend. Also, the hot level is very spicy. Atleast for me. My mom and sister got it and I tried it, I couldn't finish all of the noodles I borrowed to try. No seasoning, just full on spice. I did make a pretty good dent in my bag by the end though. I just wish it wasn't so salty and had more seasoning. Even though this is my first seafood boil spot, I wouldn't come here again, neither would I consider it the best. I wouldn't recommend this business. I'd prefer you and myself to adventure more and pass on this place for another if you're craving seafood boil.

I've been hearing and seeing this place from friends & social media. Haven't had a chance to and I'm glad that I finally got to! My friend and I went and they still had their New Year combo special, which was a 4 oz lobster tail, 1 snow crab cluster, 1/2 lb shrimp, 3 pieces of potatoes, 2 pieces of corn, and 2 pieces of cornbread all for $32. What a deal! The flavor hit the spot for me. It was at the perfect spice level for me and the sauce was on point! A lot of seafood boil spots I find the sauce can be salty but this was not the case for me. I can't wait to be back again.

The food was very good, but nothing set them apart from other boil in bag places that I have been to. The bar was also closed on the day that we went, and we couldn't get the cocktails that we had been looking forward to all day. :( The staff was friendly though, and the music was good.

Food was good but preparation and presentation lacks quality for customer service and good management. Looks like every Lowcountry Restaurant does the same type of serving. They serve your hot boil food in plastic bags and this causes the plastic to release its chemicals to the food. I prefer my food not to be contaminated by plastic bleaching at all. This should also be part of food safety service management. And who in the world can eat crab legs with plastic utensils and why would the customer have to ask twice to lower/ change the music. The ambiance is for the customers. Service production of food very low . Flavors good but hopefully learning.

I really enjoyed the seafood boil here!! It was very flavour and good. We ordered at the counter and took a seat while they brought it to us when it's done. The only thing is I wish it was more spicy even tho I got the spiciest option. The garlic noodle was also very good, I'll definitely come visit it again should I end up in Chicago next time!!

Hair in my food

Customer service was OK. When I returned about the hair in my food, the guy Matt was nice but I just couldn't get pass why he would ask if I wanted to keep the food after I returned it for hair being in it. Did he really believe I would take that back and eat it?! I suggested they wear hair nets because this was disgusting. I also suggested a manager really should be there AT ALL TIMES!!! But my receipt says I was served by a manager. I was told there was no manager on duty tonight 8/17/2023 between 9:40pm/10:10pm oh and the Cajun, ridiculously hot needs seasoning.

Shrimp combo with garlic sauce

I was underwhelmed for my first experience. We had to all go up to the stand and place orders. They did bring it to the table. Our server was super friendly and nice. I ordered a garlic boil. Man oh man was it garlicky! I love garlic but this tasted like a garlic boil. The garlic overpowered the food. It was tasty but it was a little salty. I actually have made better boils at home.

Food

Best energy and food!Hard working people Wait for special combo and you'll get the best deal ever

This was my order- A combo and I added sausage.

We waited like 5 minutes for a table but were seated at a small two person booth/table. Our server was pretty busy but attentive and knew a lot about the menu. We ordered the wedge salad and the yellowtail sushi roll. It was spicy and had a nice touch of yuzu on top and the fish was relatively fresh. The wedge salad had plenty of dressing on it and it was pretty good. For the main we got the Chilean sea bass which was very sweet and savory. The scallops had a perfect sear and they were pretty very rich and buttery. The broccolini was steamed and fresh. He finished off dinner with the crème brûlée and the Keylime pie, both of us we had to take home because we were so full. I think overall this experience is pleasant, not something very memorable, but I'm happy I've came here!

My favorites were the crab cake, Cobb salad, and short rib. The crab cake was very soft and had a nice texture to it. It was one of the best crab cakes I've eaten. The Cobb salad was also very light and shareable. The short rib main course was very tender, and it came with crispy potatoes as well. Some of the other items such as the Philly cheesesteak and Asian tacos were just ok. They were also both very small in quantity relative to their price. The desserts were magnificent as well, especially the deconstructed key lime pie and sticky toffee pudding. Both of them were phenomenal. The service throughout my meal was excellent. My waitress gave us some nice recommendations, and the staff came by often. I would definitely recommend to visit Bar Mar, and I look forward to coming back myself when I am in Chicago.

We really admire Jose's philanthropic work and want to love his restaurants but truth be told, if you forget about the glitzy decor, the food is just average. We tried several appetizers; the Hamachi Cone, Caviar Cone, Asian Taco, Neptune's Pillows, Shrimp Cocktail and Iberico Jamon. We also shared a bottle of Cava. Everything was fine but to be frank the Shrimp Cocktail was the best thing we ate, simple and perfectly fresh. The service was pushy, when a server wants to take you order less than 3 minutes after sitting down, it feels like you're on a conveyor belt. We felt the prices were way out of line, with tip I spent almost $500 for a bottle of cava and appetizers for two people, for that, the food should have been more memorable. We spent the same amount for two off us to have the 12 course tasting menu at Atsumeru a couple of weeks ago and Bar Mar's food isn't in the same league. We will continue to financially support Jose's World Kitchen but not his restaurants.

While I wasn't a big fan of the taste of my drink and dessert, my friend enjoyed both of theirs. Rather, the service was excellent and the views were amazing. My friend ordered The Rocher for dessert, which includes hazelnut cake, mascarpone chantilly, and smoked maldon salt. I ordered a Baked Alaska, consisting of citrus cake, lemon cream, toasted meringue, and salted white chocolate crunch. We both also ordered cocktails. I cannot recall the name of the drinks. I asked for my drink to be fruity and sweet, but it wasn't enough of either for me. The Baked Alaska was fine but too much of various flavors. I wouldn't fault the restaurant for the drink or dessert taste as I know others really enjoyed theirs. Our server was most attentive and very helpful. We found that making a reservation on Open Table only offered a certain number of time slots, and all of them involved having dinner and not just drinks or a dessert. Reservations can also be made on their website though we chose to speak to the front desk about a reservation. Going up to the bar is first come, first serve though. We ended up making an Open Table reservation and were told it was okay to only order drinks and desserts. Cindy's is named in honor of Marian "Cindy" Pritzker, a beloved Chicago philanthropist.
