The place is pretty rundown, but the staff was friendly and quick. We loaded up in an old beat up 15-passenger van. Three or four minutes later, we were at the river. They put our canoe in the water, and off we went. The river was pretty high and moving at a nice pace, which was great. There are no rapids. The water level varies greatly throughout the season, depending on how much water they are letting out of Lake Granbury. The trip would have taken about three hours, but we stopped on a sandbar in the middle of the river and fished for awhile. It was beautiful!! They have tubes available for rent. The tubes move a lot slower in the water, so the tubing trips are longer. They also have a few one person kayaks to rent, but only a few. They will give you life jackets. Bring your own cooler, drinks, food, fishing poles, or whatever. We got out of the river at the designated exit point. The staff helped us get the canoe out of the water. We got back in the dirty van for a short 10-minute drive back to the shop. This place is nothing fancy, but if you're looking for a simple river trip, it's perfect. And the Brazos River is lovely.

The camp grounds are absolutely beautiful, right on the water. Each spot has ample space, so you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbors. I think the best part was the exceptionally kind and helpful staff. Larry, Tony, and Deborah do far more than just run this place- they actually take the time to talk their campers and ensure everyone's happy and having a good time. I can't wait to go back...in fact, I think we may implement a bi-yearly trip.

The tent campsites are TINY and very close to each other. This wouldn't be so bad if your group has two side by side, but if not, beware. When we questioned the camp host about the lot sizes she snapped at us about how they were the biggest around. That is a lie, but whatever. The grounds keeper was also very rude and creepy. Anyway, the site beside us was full of frat boys who were drinking heavily through the night. Falling out of their cars, puking everywhere, screaming. I checked on them a few times and they were nice enough but continued to play music into the early hours of the morning disturbing my family and the family next to us. People use hipcamp to avoid the crowds. This was like a typical Texas state park. Nothing special besides the river. The hiking was terrible. And the lots are SMALL. We left an honest and fair review on the hipcamp website and the owner Tony responded with the most hateful retort, haha. Saying that his ranch was worth $5million dollars and our measly $100 rental didn't deserve a bigger site or space. That the $100 wouldn't even pay for his gas. He caters to the ones who rent out the acre lots, not weekend campers. Very unprofessional. So I'm sure for some this place will be fine, but management is rude and the lots are trash. We will never go back and would not recommend this site to anyone looking for a relaxing camping trip. This is stripmall camping on a pretty spot.

There are six public parks located within the forty miles of shoreline. Each one offers something different, like picnic areas, camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. This was our last stop for our 2022 Challenge! We went out for a Christmas Day hike after all the festivities and decided to explore the Benbrook Lake Horse and Nature Trails near Whiskey Flats. We saw the remnants of several old stone buildings, including a huge double chimney. Bald Eagles are known to nest in this area, but we didn't spot any this time.. We will definitely go back and explore more of that area.
