The pace of the hike was fairly easy-going; however, there plenty of ups and downs on the hiking path. On my way out to go home, I shopped at the park store. They have a big pond with ducks, geese, and turtles! They have a walking area around the pond that my kids love to run on. They would rather run this track then play on the play ground. Playground equipment is set to designated age limits, but kids don't care and do whatever they want. We went here Sunday and it was pretty busy. The busiest I have ever seen!! The kids love the ducks and it's rare seeing a turtle. Be careful for the geese though. Those suckers will come at you with their head cocked like Linda Blair from the exorcist.

If water conditions are safe, there is also swimming... So bring your floaties! There are also bathrooms, and (I think) changing rooms. There might be a snack shop, but I've never been here when it's open, so maybe not. Only reason I'm not going 5 stars is that the unpaved parking lot is a navigation nightmare! It's also very bumpy, and entry in and out is rather steep. To top this quagmire off, there's also a huge, Texas-sized, truck blocking the parking isles. The truck usually has an over-sized trailer hitch making things even worse. Lastly, be sure to read the warning sign. If the water is not moving, i.e. stagnant, there is the danger of unhealthy "amoeba organisms."

The other direction has a sort of dam you can walk across to see the older defunct dam with water spilling over it. If you continue walking you will come up to these giant rocks that you can climb on and look over. The river has small pools of water, a mini waterfall of sorts and several trees which change color during the seasons. It's very picturesque. Be careful of aomebas in the shallow warm water.

The…read morepark attendant was helpful in telling us about the facility (boat launch, beach, camping facilities etc. we arrived around 8pm to check the boat out after doing some maintenance but still wanted to go on the lake for a couple of hours. with all the recent flooding they will have to repair the courtesy dock but fortunately the beach is not rocky so you can beach your boat there until the dock is finished. We did not go to the fishing pier but want to check it out soon. I did talk to a lady on the phone there and she was helpful in telling us the amenities.

There are six public parks located within the forty miles of shoreline. Each one offers something different, like picnic areas, camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. This was our last stop for our 2022 Challenge! We went out for a Christmas Day hike after all the festivities and decided to explore the Benbrook Lake Horse and Nature Trails near Whiskey Flats. We saw the remnants of several old stone buildings, including a huge double chimney. Bald Eagles are known to nest in this area, but we didn't spot any this time.. We will definitely go back and explore more of that area.

Eagle Mountain Park has a decent size parking lot and I noticed they had a Kona ice truck out…read morefront. They have restrooms available, however they are porta potties that need maintenance. My friend and I enjoyed walking the overlook trail, including seeing the views of the lake. The weather was sunny and breezy and we got a good workout. I like that they don't allow dogs here to preserve their wildlife. We saw a couple of deer on our walk which was lovely. We look forward to our next visit to Eagle Mountain Park.

Eagle Mountain Park has great hiking trails along with some scenic views. One of the best features…read moreof this park is that it's pedestrian only and there are no bikes or dogs allowed. This makes for a great hiking experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of dogs, but I love that this park is working to preserve the nature, plus some of the trails are steep and it would be heinous to make your dog venture up and down some of these more aggressive slopes. Nonetheless, I still saw two people bring their dogs out... some people simply have no regard for guidelines to protect the nature and not create an undue burden on your dog. Sigh. This is truly one of the best places in DFW if you are serious about hiking. There is a 500 feet elevation gain on the trail by the lake and this makes for great views and an easy way to get your heart rate up. There is ample parking and admission to the park is free. The only downside I would mention is the only restroom facilities are two port-o-potties and they were disgusting. One was out of toilet paper and there are no sinks to wash up. I don't know why people feel the need to make a bad situation worse by urinating all over the seat and trashing the facilities. Other than that, Eagle Mountain Park is a great choice for a semi-challenging hike site in DFW. The views are also a great reward for your efforts!
