What a beautiful spot for a family friendly day! WATER SHOES ARE A MUST if you plan to get in the water here. The water is constantly running over the rocky riverbed - so naturally, there is some slick algae buildup. That did not deter us, or the kids. It is free, the parking lot on site is small, but there is an overflow lot just down the way where you can park and walk back down to the entrance to the water. Bring a tube for maximum fun for the kids lol! Also - if your kids want to do any sliding on the surfaces - I strongly recommend bathing suits with shorts. It is concrete, after-all. The water is nice & cool, mostly shallow with a few occasional "deep" spots. I am 5 ft 3 in; and the deepest part we found was barely chest deep. Kids rated this a "200/10" and the grownups give it 10/10, 5 stars!

This is just a neat little place. Yes, they are rocks, but they are some fun big rocks full of history to crawl on and interact with. Crawl through the small holes, in between tight gaps, and jump from boulder to boulder. All along a cascading creek that has a beautiful rock bottom creek bed. They evidently have swimming in the creek, as they have a life vest station where you can borrow a life vest for your visit in the water.

Visiting this park made me wish I was a lot younger and in better physical shape. As soon as I started climbing the rocks and jumping from one to another, I felt like a kid again. However, please use caution as there are a few significant gaps between some of the rocks. This park is definitely fun for the entire family. Be sure to bring out the kids for this one.

Stopped here for a solo picnic lunch on a Sunday afternoon...took my chair and my bag and found a nice, quiet spot in the water. It was great! I ate some lunch, read some of my book and enjoyed the view!

Kids didn't really want to stop but boy did they change their mind and then didn't want to leave. Should wear something to get wet in if you go.

Driving through Glen Rose Friday evening to a grocery store, we spotted Big Rocks Park. We decided to check it out on our way back to our hotel. It was about 7:30pm and there were still a lot of people around. The parking lot is free, but is small and all gravel, which was a bit much for our Prius... The park itself is cool! To the left is a lot of...well...big rocks...they were very easy to climb on and fun. To the right is access to the river, and in this spot it is very shallow and slow. We waded out in shorts and could go for quite a while before it got too deep. The whole family really enjoyed this random stop along the way-would definitely recommend for families as a fun and reasonably safe place to play and get wet.

    Always so beautiful!

Amazing for the family. Lots to do for the kids . Minnows are everywhere. There were people fishing as well and some catfish were caught. You have to look out for snakes specifically poisonous cotton mouth snakes. All in all it's one of the best places for family enjoyment.

Big rocks park is 10 minutes away from Dinosaur Valley State Park and is 1 minute away from the Green Pickle. The park closes at 10pm so it gives you time to wind down after some touring in Glen Rose Texas. The place has 2 picnic tables on the side of the road where you could sit and eat while watching the sunset go down. People could swim in the park and could borrow life vests for a first come first serve basis that is located at the loaner station. People have to be careful though because a warning sign states that people have to be careful in swimming in stagnant water due to amoeba. It's an interesting stop while visiting Glen Rose Texas.

Great short stop for the little ones to run off some steam! Shallow water and big rocks you can give them some room to explore... for free!!

This place is refreshing and fun. Not sure what's not to like! Lots of gigantic rocks to climb on and adventure around. Rushing water to sit and relax in, or for little ones to play in. The water is pretty shallow, clear and clean. The water can be moving quickly the further down you go, so would recommend little ones or weak swimmers wearing life jackets. If you're stagnant for too long, tiny fish may nibble on you. Saw lots of dogs running around also, so you can bring your furry friends. It was a little difficult to find, but it right by the downtown area. Worth looking for! Bring some chairs, snacks, drinks, and find a place to enjoy the water. Water shoes were also great to have here. There's a snow cone shop close by you can grab ice cream of a snow cone at also.

This park has big rocks. No joke. It's just a bunch of big rocks next to a river and is apparently so entertaining I couldn't find an address for it on the internet anywhere. There is a big sign telling you all the things you can't do, but what you can do it climb up on one of the big rocks and look at the the Paluxy River and what I found on a website referred to as a "dangerous new dam." Oh, that's what that was? Located in the middle of effing nowhere, I'm sure this is a favorite to some, but to me, it was just a bunch of rocks. Literally.

A great quick stop to run around on giant rocks or a place to spend a couple of hours cooling off in running river water.

There's actual dinosaur tracks preserved in the rock at Dinosaur Valley State Park, and that just adds even more fun to the experience! We went for the day and the entrance fee was $8 per adult. They accept cards and cash at the Ranger Station. Prior to arriving I tried to buy tickets online, but I kept only seeing tickets for overnight camping. Nonetheless, we were still able to pay at the entrance and we were even able to get out and use the restroom facilities at the entrance. Once you pay your entrance fee, a ranger will give you a trail map. There is ample parking inside the park, so there are lots of possibilities on where to start your adventure. We started on the Pawluxy River trail and crossed over to the main track site where the dinosaur prints are very clear. The river crossing has slightly protruding rocks that you have to navigate on foot to get across the river. I wore hiking boots and I think this was ideal for the environment. From there we switched to the overlook trail where the elevation is 850 ft, so you get a great view of the whole Pawluxy River Valley. From there we descended to the Black-capped Vireo Trail, then crossed the Pawluxy River to make our way back to our car. While there's endless combinations of hikes you can take, ours took about 3 hours. Along the way there were lots of people. Mostly gathered at the river and at the tracks. The rest of the trails were actually very quiet and peaceful. In addition to hiking, there are other points of interest. There are dinosaur models, a swimming hole and of course multiple dinosaur track sites. Overall, Dinosaur Valley is a great state park with something for everyone!

We "discovered" this charming, nicely constructed walkway after enjoying a riverside picnic dinner. We were enticed by the newer, smoother-looking walkway and entrance we could see from the Pavilion at Paluxy Heritage Park--what better activity for post-mealtime than a walk!? The Riverwalk features a dock/platform where people could potentially pull kayaks, SUPs, or canoes along the edge and either paddle down river, go for a quick restroom break (there's one up the hill at Paluxy Heritage Park near the Pavillion), or take a rest. During our walk, I was happy to spot one small cluster of cheerful white and yellow wildflowers I had not yet seen in Texas near the trail and enjoyed seeing the homes across the road--a couple with some very southern features--especially the beautiful wrap-around porches! I also enjoyed trying to walk faster than the SUPer down on the river below in an attempt to start a small race. The most special surprise of all was that this Riverwalk led us to a large Dam (intended for recreational use with steps on either side). From there, you can cross over the dam and walk to Big Rocks Park - a site to behold from the dam and a bit like Enchanted Rock on a MUCH smaller scale with many large...I mean BIG ROCKS. For a girl-turned-woman who STILL collect rocks, this was a dream come true!! We were delighted that we chose this walk as it turned into even more of an adventure than anticipated and made us almost glad that Dinosaur Valley State Park closed early (7pm on weekends for day use--at least temporarily during COVID) as we gained a whole new and WONDERFUL perspective of what the small town of Glen Rose has on offer--and its much more than Dinosaurs and Fossils with many features and activities I consider quintessentially Texan in the best of ways! There's a certain feeling that can't be named in the goodness of a hot Texas summer spent on, in, or near the water with cold drinks, smells of campfire/BBQ, and good company - it's so rich and so good it's spiritual! This experience, and the wonder it filled me with, gave me that pure, untainted Texas goodness that only those who have spent time in, and love, Texas understand.
