I texted it... crickets (no reply) for 3 days. Another one who said they were mobile and would come to my house and make a duplicate for $100 (flat rate charge). IF I needed another key or keys they'd be $50 EACH. My response was LOL. I'd previously called a VW dealer... they only sell the modern keys... don't make any keys. No places like ACE hardware or Home Depot has the blank keys for a car that hasn't been made in 50 years. Got it. Finally a locksmith (most are mobile now) called back... he was on the road between jobs and said he didn't know if he had the blanks but I sent him a photo and he said he'd check when he got to his destination. In the meantime he recommended Paul's Safe and Lock... a brick and motor store on Cirby Way in Roseville. I called them, they confirmed they had the blanks and said it'd be around $6.00 per key ( I wanted 3 keys). I drove there and they were AWESOME. Yes, I made sure the estimates included the same parts and labor, except for one where the repair company preferred to estimate based on pictures that I texted. Adam was clearly the low bidder, and the door works very well and is quiet. He advised me that the 30+ year-old motor will need replacement in the future, but it is okay to use until it starts to have any problem. His warranty: three years parts and three months for labor. I highly recommend Adam and suggest that if you are going to look for estimates, make sure you include Adam Door and Lock; you will not regret it.
