    Mixed Hors D'oeuvres
    Linda T.

Love the food, this is where I get my fix of vegan Asian cuisine in London. Their menu is too good, and I'm bonded to it where I can't even be bothered to check out the buffet -- even when everyone in line is anxiously happy. Try the mixed hors d'oeuvres if you can't settle on something from the appetizers list -- compilation of the best. My personal favorite is the crispy seaweed, it's savory with a hint of crispy sweetness. King prawn in butter sauce is best thing here, comes out piping hot and still bubbling in its thick sauce! Singapore noodles, chicken fried rice, and house special noodles should be ordered too. Everything is filling. I always a couple items thinking that I have enough room for dessert, never the case. I disappoint myself! All of the desserts look really good and exotic, I'm definitely going to try out the banana fritter with ice cream, mango delight, and bati kulfi -- yes, all 3 in one sitting. Can't wait!

The Peking Palace is relatively small and is easy to walk straight past it - the restaurant itself is narrow, but contains a full bar and plenty of tables.

This cafe brings you back into the wild, back to nature and the tube stop is about 10 minutes away! Their dishes include pasta bakes, curries and shepherd's pie, soups and pate and yummy desserts. Whenever possible some of the ingredients come from the garden just outside! it doesn't get more organic than that! Seating out in the veranda, even when it's raining, is very romantic and intimate. And to top it all off power is supplied via a solar panel. The cabin can also be hired out for parties (children and adults) and meetings, and we had a blast in our offices Christmas party, the owner is a lovely guy that lives there and joined in the fun.

Think composing committees, weekend gardening volunteers, conservation talks, and as many solar panels as there are exposed wood panels. The inside of this cabin-style café is straight out of an Abe Lincoln biography and there's a large patio outside that cries for a few rocking chairs, a porch swing and a Willie Nelson cameo. The menu consisted of veggie favourites, mouth-watering cakes (although it would have been nice to have a gluten-free option or two,) and coffee/tea. Loads of the dishes noted ingredients that were grown on site in the volunteer run garden. Mmmm... crunchy goodness! No matter how far your hippy scale leans, it's rare in a place as big as London to feel completely isolated. If you're ever in the market, Queen's Wood Café is your spot.

The restaurant was empty save for one other table when I arrived - absolutely no atmosphere. I should have left then. Proceeded to look at the menu, when the food arrived it was clear it was very expensive for small portions. The waitress didn't seem to know anything about the menu and had to call the manager over. Half my meal arrived within 5 minutes of ordering so it was clearly just reheated. It was taken back until 10 mins later my full meal arrived - obviously reheated for a second time. The portions were small for the prices charged. The dosa was pleasant enough. The Channa Masala is amongst the worst I have ever tasted, and had the most repugnant aftertaste - it tasted like a ready meal prepared days in advance and left to stagnate. I had to drink glasses of water to wash it down. The lemonade was grossly overpriced and served luke warm in a small grubby glass. When I had paid my excessive bill of £20 (I was aghast at the £2.50 service charge!!), I asked for the bathrooms, the staff were clearly disinterested once I'd paid my dues and I was vaguely told "downstairs". There were no signposts upstairs or downstairs for the toilet and when you did find it, you were almost walking into the kitchen as it was right beside the kitchen door, the bathroom was clearly used by the kitchen staff as it was dirty (and had a urinal beside the sink), and I couldn't wait to get out of there. Horrible end to my afternoon in Hampstead.

I have Celiacs, so can't have the dosas here since they aren't gluten free. Because of that, and the prices, Rasa still wins for our veg-friendly Southern Indian food. Our son saw the listing and thought the whole concept to be terrific! It quickly became a thing all vacation, where should we go for dinner? Tortellini Cup! Well we were mostly joking because it wasn't anywhere near our hotel and it was usually pretty late by the time we got back and were ready to eat. But on the second to last night, we had gotten in fairly early and had no other plans so Tortellini Cup became our quest. We looked up directions and hopped on the Tube. We made our way there without any problems. So worth it! Now don't be expecting anything big and fancy. This is literally a cart of a restaurant in the lobby of a shopping mall. There some stools to sit at and a few tables near it. Walk right up and place your order. You will be so glad you did. Turned out to be one of the best meals we had. The pasta and sauce are nice and fresh and oh so tasty. Portions are good sized. Certainly enough for the average appetite (our son needed two but he has a very large appetite.) We also got one of the sandwiches which was toasty and hot. They even serve wine and beer. An added bonus for my hubby! There is good reason this place is rated so high, the food is great and the concept works!

My daughters got themselves some delicious tortellini, the pasta had been made on the premises. So much so you can watch them making it. They each chose a different sauce and kept on eating from each other's bowl. For me, I had a savory eggplant parmagian (gluten free!!) and it couldn't have been more satisfying and tasty. Like an eggplant lasagne. I was so impressed with the food and the service was incredibly friendly. It is a small food bar and well worth trying next time you are by the O2 Centre.

If you want to find out more about the people that run it, just click on their website. There's some fascinating information there. After I started eating an inferior pad thai, I was looking for an alternative at the Whitecross Market. As I walking back to Old Street, I spotted Wholefood Heaven operating out of an old Citroen van. The sign advertised small and large Buddha bowls. Each contained the following: massaman curry with new potato, pineapple & soya chunks; flash steamed garden greens (kale today); carrot & kimchee pickle; shortgrain brown rice; omega seed mix. The Baby Buddha is £4.50, The Big Buddha is £5.00, and you can add Halloumi for an extra £1. These bowls are vegetarian and vegan, wheat & gluten free. And since it was near closing time and they didn't know if my greens would be steamed, they knocked off 50p. I fell in love with the Buddha Bowl at first sight. It was colorful with the seeds, carrot, and kale. And the odors wafting out of the bowl were quite nice. The bowl was sweet with coconut and pineapple. The additional hot sauce gave it a spicy bite with tang. The kale added a crunchy texture and a slight bitter tone. The seeds added a visual punch along with their nutritional value. Overall, it was a tasty, nutritional, and filling dish. I cannot wait to have more. The couple that runs Wholefood Heaven also gives cooking lessons.

Packed with flavour and a huge amount of vegetables and food, the large here will easily fill the hungriest of customers, and the extra halloumi you can add for £1 is well worth it. Get the spicy sauce, it adds a nice extra kick to the bowl! My only issue with this place is that the rice and massaman curry can get a bit one dimensional stuck at the bottom of the pot. The chilli sauce makes it more interesting, but if you've eaten all your extra veg/halloumi by the time you make it to the last quarter, it's a bit of a hard slog eating all that rice and potatoes. Still, just mix it all up, get it to go and you will not be disappointed. Some of the best vegan food I've had in London!
