I really want to give Touch of Romance 4 or 5 stars, but I have just a few qualms about it (largely due to their prices). On the plus side...their staff are almost always amazing, friendly, and they make you feel at ease given the environment. They have 40% off coupons (for items under $90) if you check in on Yelp, and also a frequent buyer's card that offers up discounts, etc. Also, I have to give them bonus points for a truly cool store interior! Having said that...the last time I went in there, I started to realize exactly how high they markup their prices. I was looking at the Hitachi Magic Wand, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to drop that kind of dough. Their price was $84.95, which seemed a little outrageous to me. I decided I wanted to research it a bit, so as I was standing there, I hopped on my Amazon app to look at some reviews. Lo and behold, I find that it's selling on Amazon for $54.95. YIKES!! That's thirty bucks cheaper on Amazon, and they'll ship it free! Granted, if I had used the 40% off coupon, it would have dropped it down to just around that price...but God forbid I wasn't a Yelper and was unaware of that check-in offer. Man oh man. My boyfriend and I ended up using our coupon on some massage oils, but again...I looked them up on Amazon (unfortunately after-the-fact, in this instance) and they were about $10 cheaper. Touch of Romance was selling them for $19 per bottle! Not to harp on them too much, though. As I said, their customer service is exceptional and the store itself has a lot of merits. Many people may not feel comfortable buying certain products online and having them shipped to their house, etc...so I can understand the need for a brick and mortar store to cater to certain customers. If you're down for an interesting shopping experience, hit up Touch of Romance. I absolutely ADORE this shop. I've been to a number of sex shops all around the nation, and I still have to say that this one is the best (and is the closest to my house, which is even better). Store location - Very visible and easily accessible; just a couple minutes away from the Brea Mall. They have their own parking lot. Store layout and presentation - The interior doesn't look run-down or sketchy at all; the decor is very neat, welcoming, relaxing, and inviting. Selection - A Touch of Romance has a great selection of just about anything you would ever need: condoms, lingerie, sex toys, DVDs... I come here for the sex toys, though, so I won't have much to say about everything else and I didn't pay as much attention to the other areas. Price - Sex toys are going to be expensive no matter what. With that said, A Touch of Romance is average as far as price goes. Service - This is the longest part, because the service is the real reason why I keep coming back here on top of the great selection, price, and store layout. I've come here two or three times previously, and I've never had someone be rude to me. They have always been very warm, welcoming, and helpful. Yesterday's experience, however, stood out even among all that. I went with my boyfriend to show him around, since he'd never been to this sex shop with me before and I had mentioned to him that it was my favorite. We were looking around in the toys section and I picked up a small anal toy. One of the guys who worked there, MC, saw that I was holding that toy and came back with another one that he recommended. He explained that the one I had was made of lesser quality silicone than the Tantus-brand one he suggested and that it wouldn't last very long as a result. He also explained that the shape of the one I had wouldn't do much as far as stimulation goes and explained that the Tantus one, which has graduated beads, would do a lot more. We decided to go with the Tantus one and kept looking around. I'd been wanting to replace one of my toys for a long time, since I'd gotten it a while ago and it was a pretty cheap one of poor quality (it was my first one that I had also bought from A Touch of Romance). They still had that one in stock, so I took it off the shelf, showed it to MC, and asked for his opinion on it and his help finding a suitable replacement. He had no qualms telling me his honest opinion and said he wouldn't recommend that one to anyone. He then went around with me and my boyfriend and showed us a number of other toys and explained the pros and cons to each. I told him that I'm picky about the shape and size (as I have a number of other toys that don't do the job and that one was the only one that had a really good shape and size), and he spent a lot of time and effort to help me find another one that was similar but of better quality. On top of that, he also made sure that the toys he was suggesting were in a reasonable price range; he didn't just try to sell us the most expensive ones. In the end, my boyfriend and I picked two Tantus toys, which MC informed us are made of medical-grade silicone, so they'll last a long time and are easy to maintain and clean. My boyfriend and I decided that the extra price (twice as expensive as some of the others) was worth the quality--cheap sex toys will need to be replaced more often, and, in the end, you end up paying more for them than a one-time investment in a good toy that will last a long time. While we were poking around some more, trying to decide which red tag item we wanted (since they were having a promotion that members with a $40+ purchase get a free clearance item under $20), MC noticed that we were having some trouble finding a good item and came back with a bottle of relaxant spray that was on clearance that we hadn't noticed. He explained how to use it and we decided on that item. After I went back home, I washed the new toys and boiled them in hot water for five minutes to clean them, and I was pleased to see that boiling did not degrade the material in any way (otherwise I would've been very sad to have wasted that much money :P). I gave them a test drive later and let me tell you, they were AMAZING and mind-blowing and so totally worth the money. They left my other toys in the dust. The relaxant spray also noticeably worked and worked well. SUMMARY: I would give A Touch of Romance six stars if I could. Or ten. Or over nine thousand. They're in a good location; the interior is very comfortable and not sketchy at all; they have a great selection of pretty much anything you could ever want; and the service is astounding. I have never had a bad experience here, and the salespeople do their best to make sure people are comfortable approaching them and asking them questions. I was brought to this shop the day after my 18th birthday my mom brought me in and said pick out a toy.
