i have bought hair from La Tasha for over 4 years. She highlights one bundle for me. I wanted to change it up a little. I sent her a picture from her Youtube page. I asked her to verify the color and said I never want red highlights. I went to pu my hair at 9:15 am today per her request. Highlights were red & she proceeded toexplain to me that she did the same thing as always. To make it short I was asking for a refund on the color and she said all sales final. I breathed in/out and didn't say anything else. I feel I was already overcharged for the the hair- I asked her how did it go from $85-$90 bundle to $110. She said she guess the tariffs. Not even in me star is deserved. After texting with the hair Braider, for 2 days, I made an appointment for 10:45am. Showed up at 10:43am, and after sitting there watching her take her time on someone else's hair until 11:33, she stops and says come with me, she walks me outside and explains that she's short on time, and pretty much had me leave, so she can ran out to go grab a color for the lady who's hair she was currently working on.. I live 3.5 hrs away in small town, and spent over a $160.00 on hair just for this appointment.. Never have I been so disappointed read more

I really enjoyed my visit to Lovely hair Designs. The owner Tasha was skilled beyond my imagination. She listened to my concerns right from the beginning and assured me that she would address them during the session. The shampoo experience she gave me was amazing. It was the perfect amount of aggressiveness I love when getting my scalp massages. It was like she knew my hair and head like it was her own. I could of sat there under that sink for hours. During the actual re-twist, She treated each and every one of my hairs like it was the most important. She was firm yet precise in her movements, never causing me unnecessary pain as I have experienced in the past with other stylist. I willingly excepted her recommendations as to how I should maintain my hair, because it was easy to trust the judgment of someone who has proven there skill with ease. I recommend that anyone struggling or not with there current hair situation pay her a visit, so you can see how it's really supposed to be done. My boyfriend & I met with Tasha at Lovely Hair Designs on November 28th to inquire about getting my dreadlocks tightened. I was wearing a bandana & lifted it to show to what extent I needed root maintenance. She told me she would  & asked what method I use. I explained that my boyfriend & I maintain it using the 'crochet hook method', but with him working long hours & my neck, back, & shoulder injuries due to a recent auto accident, my dreads have been somewhat neglected. She said she's familiar with that method & that her husband has dreads, which made us confident that we'd found the right place. I told her I use the smallest size & I asked Tasha if I needed to bring my crochet hook (as I have done for past appointments) she said, 'no, I have all the sizes.' She said the cost would be '$75' & we booked an appointment with her. I went in on December 6th at 3 pm & instead of Tasha crocheting my roots as she initially led us to believe, she had another stylist attend to me. The stylist was very pleasant & spent about 3 hours on my hair in what takes my boyfriend 2 hours even with an abundance of new growth. I was seated with my back to the mirror for the entire process, that was different from what I'm used to in all my years having been to various salons. As my appointment progressed, my roots were feeling tight as though my new growth was being crocheted completely into my dreads & I repeated this to my stylist throughout the maintenance. In reality however, while some growth was nearly completely incorporated, other clumps were merely twisted around my dreads & adhered with honey, which, unbeknownst to me was thickly applied to my roots entirely. Afterwards, I was seated under a dryer for several minutes. This process of heat & honey increased the look & feel of tightness. I continued to tell my stylist how awesome it felt & that other places I'd been to for maintenance (4 & 5 years ago when I first got dreads) fell very short for the $$ we paid because most of them weren't thoroughly crocheted & came loose & that as a result, my boyfriend & I educated ourselves on the maintenance process & since have successfully maintained them ourselves. I'm so proficient that I have provided new dreadlocks & as well as maintenance for friends. During my appointment, Tasha repeatedly came to the stylist & conversed quietly, then, as she walked away, she'd  turn & tell my stylist that they're doing a great job which furthered my notion that all was well & that although she herself wasn't attending to my hair as indicated, that I was in capable hands. I tipped the stylist $25 for the 'time consuming hard work', paying a total of $100. I looked at my hair & with the hardened honey, it appeared to be exactly what I requested. Unfortunately, after sleeping with my satin cap on, the next morning when I removed it, I realized several loose hairs hardened together by honey sticking out detached from my dreadlocks. I called Tasha asking if the stylist had worked with dreads before & she assured me that yes they had. I then let her know the status of my hair & that I was not happy about so many partially crocheted roots, that now I'm essentially where I was before I came in only $100 lighter. Over the duration of the call, Tasha continually talked over me saying that she gave me a 'new client quote' & that didn't include 'a full process', that if that's what I wanted, it'd have been an additional $35 more per hour. Tasha, & the stylist never mentioned this before or during my appointment. She also said I could've paid $200 or more for what the stylist did for me in those 3 hours. In between Tasha talking over me, I made it very clear that I didn't blame the stylist as I am certain they did as instructed by her. I told Tasha she should've been honest with my boyfriend & I about how she approaches dreadlock maintenance cost wise. We wouldn't have had a problem paying more to get what she herself said she was going to do. I will not return to a salon that practices deceitful hidden costs as a way of business. read more

Was recommended to this place by a coworker to get locs retwist. Made an appointment for my husband to get his locs retwist and styled, I could have done it myself, and done it better to boot, but figured it would have been best to go to a "professional". He just did his hair today n his locs have already came undone. He explained to the young lady doing his hair that he does not use hair gel to retwist, but she insisted that it works on all her clients and after some back and forth about it he just gave up. Now it's time to "style" she did two braids, one going back on more towards the side and the other at the top of his head, like wtf. He had to ask her to fix it else she would've let him leave her chair looking the fool! Come time to pay, he had to ask her for his change. Never again! read more

This place was recommended to me by a coworker whose wife and son get their locs maintained here so I called to inquire about getting starter locs and spoke with a woman by the name of Brenda. I just wanted to know if I could come in for a consultation but from the tone of her voice something was throwing me off. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt as I wasn't sure if she was with another client and multitasking or if she had a hard time hearing me. I went in and met with her and noticed she was using the coil method on her client getting locs which would not work for my hair texture. I asked her to tell/show me what products she uses and immediately she said she uses "wax, gel, whatever works, when one thing doesn't work we just use something else" which I could see for myself because her client's hair looked like it was pounded with products. She continued by saying I wouldn't be able to wash my hair for 8 weeks = 2 months. Wtf??? On their website they state loc services start at "$45 and up" and I understood that with my amount of hair and how time consuming the process would be that it was going to cost me a lot more than that. However, when I asked for an estimate or just an idea of how much I'd be spending she said she "couldn't". Everything she said drew RED FLAGS. The products she uses cause BUILD UP and her advice to not wash my hair for so long is INCORRECT and she is COMPLETELY UNEDUCATED AND MISINFORMED. I cancelled my apt with her and refuse to let her or anyone with similar advice touch my hair. As a matter of fact, I will be doing it myself for FREE! I cannot speak for the other employees that work there but Brenda gave me a bad first impression. read more
