I'm strongly of the opinion that pizza is one of the most overpriced things you can get when eating out so it's hard for me to say: I think the coal fired pizza was worth $25. First I gotta shout out the staff who were incredibly friendly and helpful. I think they mainly do takeout because the dining space is relatively small but still feels open thanks to the huge windows. They've got one big TV that was showing the history channel? We split 3 things between 4 people and definitely didn't need the 3rd pizza, as delicious as it was. Coal Fired: The crust and bake are the most important part of a pizza and they nailed it here on both counts. It had a nice fermented flavor but wasn't tangy or "raw" at all. The bake was perfect. Crispy on the bottom and rim with nice leoparding (spots) but the crust interior was pillowy soft and just chewy enough. The overarching theme is "salty" in the the best way. I love salty foods and they use a lot of low-moisture, aged cheeses that amp that aspect up. Bar Pizza: This was pretty good, but felt like it didn't know if it should be deep dish or tavern? Wasn't quite as thin as a midwest tavern so you didn't get the crispy bottom I love, but wasn't thick enough to give the nice, fluffy focaccia chew. Crispy edges were amazing, though, as you'd expect. The middle got really soupy and if you wanted something topping-heavy like "The Sarge" I can see it turning a coal-fired version into floppy mush. It still hurts my soul paying ~$30 for a pizza, even 16", but this is a place I would go to with friends for a special occasion and split a pie or two. I have seen this place several times and had been meeting to try it out. We finally decided to stop by and try it out. Key thing is they charge an automatic 20% gratitude for all dining in. I have mix feelings about it. The pizza though are fairly priced and very delicious . My favorite is the sarge bar pizza. Super yummy! It's a cute shop inside and the staff are super friendly. We tried a pair of bar style pizzas and loved the crispy cheese edges on the pies. We had the IYKYK - Aged salami, house garlic butter, onion mix (no house tomato sauce) and the Southsider - Sausage and Giardiniera - that giardiniera was crunchy and nicely spicy. My best friend and I were hungry and decided to check this place out about fifteen minutes before closing time. We walked in and asked if we'd like to dine in or take out. We said dine in and then the young lady told us that because they were closing soon that we would only be allowed to place an order for take out. I asked if once we ordered if we could just stay and eat and not order anything - to which we were told that "our dishwasher leaves at close and we don't have anyone to do dishes." After looking at the menu, and seeing the prices were around $35.00 for a pizza - we would much rather have had the experience of eating here vs taking it to go. We were also on a motorcycle so getting a to go pizza wasn't exactly the easiest solution. We opted to go across the street to do littles and that was much better! Usually my friends & I argue over whether pineapple belongs on pizza, but pickles? Had to try the Sgt, Pepper in the interest of science and it works somehow though the pepperoni is salty too. The crust was very crispy and delicious. Both times I visited, I was in desperate need of the bathroom after queuing for Record Store Day! These are clean and spacious. And by the time I came out, my order was ready. The last time it had been a breakfast pizza, not as exotic as the Sgt. Pepper, but with the same awesome crust. I had the dill pickle, pepperoni with hot honey pizza. I couldn't really taste the hot honey aspect and though I respected the bold flavors the pie offered - the sauce, cheese, to topping proportion is a bit uneven which doesn't necessarily make a harmonious explosion in your mouth. The toppings flavor definitely overpowered the dough, sauce, and cheese. It's a nice option to have nearby but if these elements can be improved then it would make the pizza outstanding. Pizza was the plan tonight for a kid free evening... Nate did a build your own option as a Coal Fire Pizza... and for me... Meatballs with a side of ranch. Not going to lie was somewhat sticker shocked when it was time to check out seeing they add their own 12% gratuity to your total (for pick up) but again wanted to give it a try and another thing to add is for toppings on your whole pizza is $5 per item not the $2.50 as stated on the menu.. so having sausage and pepperoni on his whole pizza was $10.. But lets get to the food! Nate's pizza was a hella good size and can def feed 2 people. Keep in mind there is no option for extra cheese when you do a build your own or sauce if you want to add extra on the app. He thought it was good. And mine... I had no idea about this little Golden Valley gem until yesterday and to say I have sorely been missing out is an understatement. The pizza is sublime, the sauce is magical and don't even get me started on the crust! We were in pizza heaven. They even have GF crust so hubs could enjoy as well! Even more, you get a glass of wine or a rotating beer for a penny while you wait...yep one cent! I can't even. Can't even tell you how great the staff was, they were incredibly helpful, cheery and wonderful! The staff alone made me want to come back again and again! Now the bad news, they have standing tables, which is a bit of a bummer and they are a tad pricey (well worth the cost in my opinion). Neither are deal breakers for us but a little bit meh. These guys are still struggling with their thru-put. Online Friday night order system said ready at 6:20. When I finally got someone to check for me, heard another 10 minutes. Ultimately ready 6:45. As a Pizza Lover, I had to try Love Pizza. To best compare "Apples to Apples", I always try a plain cheese pizza first at any new pizza place. I had the 16" Triangle cheese pizza and it was good. Served Hot , it had good flavor and texture and I particularly liked that the sauce was not overly sweet. Also tried the meatballs, which were really delicious!! They'd definitely be the enticing factor for me to go back. What I didn't love about Love Pizza was the elaborate packaging, which is definitely adding to the cost. Do we really need pretty white and blue striped pizza boxes with light blue patterned logo stickers? Nope, it's pizza people! And I'm not a fan of having free wine for people who are waiting to pickup their pizza. Who's paying for that wine? I am, but I'm not drinking it!!! If someone wants wine, they can pay for it!! And what the ___ is up with the "TAKE OUT SERVICE CHARGE" of 12 % ?? What?? NO! Don't add a hidden charge (to make up for elaborate packaging and free wine). There are so many pizza places in Golden Valley and for this place to make it they need to drastically reduce the price of their pies. 4 adults we ordered 2 pizzas. The Ifykyk was a solid 2 and the "read the room" maybe a 3. The pizzas don't have much taste beside the burnt crust. This usually isn't necessarily bad, but when there is no complimentary flavors happening the result is a disappointing bite. For $58 pickup we will not be returning. They do have 1 cent beer or wine while you wait which is neat, but I was there for the pizza. Honestly dominos or a good frozen pizza is better. read more
