Enjoying the fire on a cold night.
Keith I.

I stay at the castle 3 or 4 times a year when in nearby Carrick on Shannon. I'm lucky enough to travel to every continent for work & this is my favorite hotel in the world...and here's why: I was delayed in LHR by a couple of hours and Brianna, from reception, called me to make sure that I was on my way. I arrived a little after the kitchen was due to closed - which they kept open for my arrival. Upon my arrival the staff all called me by my first name and Brianna took my baggage to my room so that I could get dinner. All throughout my stay everyone called me by my first name & the customer service was exceptional. Zoltan, the manager in the restaurant, checked on me every night to make sure that I was taken care of each evening for dinner. The ladies were always extremely helpful for breakfast and opened before the advertised 8:00am start so that I could get to work on time. Both the breakfast & dinner menus are excellent. I eat a Paleo diet and the staff were very accommodating, replacing rice & potatoes with root vegetables on request. I agree that there is no workout facility so plan on doing Tabata workouts, running or bring your TRX stuff. There is also very limited wireless (due to the thick stone walls) in the hotel - only available in the bar, reception & the main drawing room. But I think that this is great as it forces you to take time out. I had to have some conference calls on my last visit & the staff got me into one of the meetings rooms, without charge, so that I could have them. I love this place & when the weather is good the gardens & walk around the grounds are a beautiful complement to the best customer service & grand rooms. I feel at home and look forward to visiting Lough Rynn Castle every year!

An exceptional experience from start to finish! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was perfect…read more Check in was a breeze..we just went up to the gentleman at the desk, gave him our name, and he handed us the key to our room. It took, maybe, three minutes. He also confirmed our dinner reservations for the evening. In the lobby (which was more like a grand hall), they had a lovely array of complimentary coffee, teas, and pastries...all served with beautiful bone china. The castle is absolutely stunning both inside and out. The interiors are grand, and the grounds are just beautiful. We spent several hours walking around the park-like setting, and had drinks on the terrace overlooking the garden. Fantastic. We also walked through every inch of the interior's public rooms...don't miss the church! The entrance to our room was tucked away under a staircase. When I first saw it I thought, "Oh no, this room is going to be the size of a closet". When we went in we were taken aback. It was massive, with a very comfortable bed, sitting area, bathroom and a huge jetted tub. And it was clean as a pin, too. Dinner in the castle's opulent Dining Room was exemplary. Service was friendly and good-humored, and the food was very, very good. My wife had the salmon and I had the beef; both were perfect. We did the 3 course meal for 65 euros each, and feel it was worth every penny. Breakfast the next morning was just as good. It was also in the Dining Room, and was included in the rate we paid. Hot food was ordered off the menu, and cool food (cereals, fruit, cold meats, etc.) were offered buffet style. One last thing: as opulent, grand, and over-the-top as Markree Castle is, the one thing it wasn't was pretentious. You don't have to break out your tux, or sequined cocktail dress; as long as you don't look like you just rolled out of bed, you should be fine. At dinner I wore a white dress shirt and a nice pair of green jeans; I felt perfectly comfortable. Out of the 12 nights we spent in Ireland, this was our favorite we stayed. It's more than just a bed to put your head on; it's an experience, and an amazing one at that.

Once you're there though, it's the perfect place to disappear to for a few days of relaxation. We stayed at the apartments on the estate, in a converted stables. They were really nicely set up, very comfortable. These are pet-friendly too, so our dog was able to join us for the trip. It was great to just be able to take her for a walk around the estate. Location wise, there's a lot to do for outdoorsy types. A couple of loughs and bogs are good for hikers, and a few nice pubs in nearby Coolooney.

Checked in around 2pm, then hit the spa! Our treatments weren't until 5 but we hit up the pool, saunas and other cool amenities. The hotel is super nice, staff is super duper friendly! Our package includes a 30 minute spa treatment plus 3 course dinner for 150 euro, which was pretty good. My scrub/massage was awesome, felt refreshed! Dinner was delicious! Rooms were very nice and the buffet breakfast the next morning was bomb! If you get a chance, take a walk around the grounds. Overall a great little get a way spot to relax and get pampered!

There is lots of land to roam around and explore including a huge golf course. The rooms are spacious and have lovely bathrooms with a shower and a bath. There's also steam rooms of various temperatures, foot spas and nice showers. On a quiet day you can really lap up the peace and serenity, drink unlimited amounts of tea, coffee and juices and just relax. I had a Swedish back and shoulder massage from the Beauty Salon. It was amazing! They even have a hair salon! You really don't need to leave the hotel over your stay as there are plenty of options to eat. The Botanic restaurant or the Cellar Bar (or room service) have got plenty of choice on their menus. It all comes from the same kitchen anyway. I was so impressed with the buffet breakfast. So much to choose from! Probably the biggest buffet breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel. Fried, scrambled and boiled eggs to choose from! The staff are very helpful and friendly too. I couldn't have asked for more. I really enjoyed my stays here (3 times in 2 years) I recommend it highly and I know I'll go back again.

This hotel has 58 rooms, restaurant & bar, full spa facilities, and can accommodate small groups or up to 700 people for conferences'. Well things have certainly turned around in 2022. This evening was the finale of the 2022 Farrell Clan Rally. And the hotel staff did their part for this excellent event. This was a five hour affair for 100 people & the band. Speeches, toasts. presentations, dinner, & music were the order of the evening. Dinner was three starters: beet salad, bacon & cheddar croquette, and my personal favorite - king prawn & chorizo risotto. Food choices in Ireland have made a quantum leap since our first visit here in 2006. Innovative and eclectic. Then came a good vegetable soup. Main course choices were: chicken bacon croquettes w/ chasseur sauce, roast sirloin of beef w/ gravy, and broiled Irish hake w/ chive veloute. Served w/ mashed & roasted potatoes, & steamed vegetables. Every dish was delivered to the tables correctly, hot, & delicious. Again a great job by the staff. Dessert was a choice of apple crumble & ice cream. Sherry trifle w/ cream, & toffee pudding w/ ice cream. Note: we were here just for this event so no hotel room review. Again many thanks to Robert & Kathleen, Chieftain Connie & Rose, John C., Hugh, all the Farrell "cousins" and especially the staff at The Longford Arms Hotel. And we almost immediately regretted it. The bar felt very much like a hotel bar (which actually makes sense, as the Bridge House is a hotel): bit too open plan, carpeted floor and old people everywhere, all round over-polished feel and a consequent lack of ambiance. There was even a guitar-toting duo singing lacklustre covers in one corner, which was blasted around the pub at irritating levels. We were the only people under forty in the place, but occasionally groups of young people would wander in and then leave almost immediately, as if they were looking for somewhere else. Curious to find where this surely close by spot was, and eager to get out of this chintzy heck-hole, we finished our drinks and left. Easily the least atmospheric place I was in on my short sojourn in the town. As we were leaving, though, there was already a queue of people outside the nightclub next door, and this was before eleven o'clock! We made a collective mental note to check it out later, and headed up the town.
