We booked in for the weekend of the Slane concert, 25 EUR per person for two nights. Good value and…read morea good plan of action as my abiding memory of going to a concert at Slane Castle was the endless amount of walking from car parks / bus parks to the venue. And then the huge amount of time spent sitting in traffic trying to leave. It's a great venue, but I have avoided it in the past because of how difficult it is to get to and from there. Slane Farm Hostel was 300 metres from the Slane Castle grounds if the information they provided was to be believed. I took this with a pinch of salt, but it had to be better than arriving and leaving on the day, right? It ended up being just over 1 KM away for a finish (from camp to the gate we were allowed to enter by). Still, it was better than previous experiences. I don't know why I thought camping for the Foo Fighters concert was going to be anything other than a regular festival camping experience. There was plenty of screaming and shouting, which is fine (ear plugs). Other festival camping effects that I wont go into. But hey, SFH can't control people being idiots. And I need to finally accept I've grown out of camping at concerts :) The first camping field did seem to me to be too full by the time they opened the second field. I'm sure the staff controlling this tried to get people to park and pitch sensibly and I can imagine it's like herding cats. Our plans to depart at a reasonable hour on Sunday morning looked scuppered. But we managed to leave before 10 am in the end, which was great. At the moment I'm not sure I can recommend this as an alternative to going to and from Slane Castle for concerts on the day itself. Catch 22. All that said the staff we dealt with directly seemed nice enough. And I saw who looked like the owner dealing with an issue with the toilets down by the yards on Saturday morning - it was good to see they cared about that. And the toilets down by the yard always had loo roll.. If an opportunity to camp here at any other time of the year came up, I would go back to Slane Farm Hostel as their facilities seemed fine.

When I told the desk lady that I had stayed with them once and was it ok if I just got out of rain to eat my lunch and used their loo, she said, "Of course, luv! It was just a nap and shower stop. We took Bus H1 from zone 16. It took about 15 min to arrive to the hotel. Check In was fast. We were given a room upstairs. They don't have elevators, so you will have to take your luggage up via the stairs. The room was small. It is dated, but clean and appropriate for one night or a quick stop. The room stays pretty cool with the windows open, but if you close the windows, it can get hot.

The hostel was located about a 2 minute walk from the bus station, so we were able to find it very quickly. It's also located right across from Eyre Square and a short walk from Market St, Merchant St, and all the fun shopping/bar areas. Brian checked us in and we got set up in an 8-bed room. He was really informative and let us know that there was dinner and a pub crawl happening at the hostel that night, and also gave us a map and pointed out all the great things to do around Galway. He also helped us book a tour to the Cliffs of Moher the following day. Our room was great. The beds were pretty comfortable, there were storage lockers underneath our beds, and outlets right next to our beds. The set up was great and made for travellers! The bathrooms and showers were also super clean (the cleanest by far throughout our whole trip!), which was pretty exciting for us. For €10, we also participated in the pub crawl that evening and had an amazing time. Megan, who was the tour leader was so much fun and took us to some great spots. Overall, this hostel was amazing and one of the best I've stayed in. If I'm ever back in Galway, I'd happily stay here again.

I chose one of the private rooms with an en-suite bathroom…read more Not that I'm too good for sharing - I did stay in a capsule hotel in Zurich not too many years ago - but I did not feel up to it for this trip. Also, the price difference wasn't enough to make it worth it. My room was clean, quiet, large enough and very pleasant. Bathroom was clean and the shower was fully enclosed. Plenty of hot water. Other than hanging out in the "cafe" a bit to write some Yelp reviews one evening, I did not use the restaurant. I also didn't use their parking as there is free street parking all around Galway as long as the signs don't show restricted. I did use my Dublin Leap card to ride the bus in Galway - the outbound stop is directly in front of the hostel. They have a laundry facility and I ran one load. No worries other than it's a bit slow.
