The hostel was located about a 2 minute walk from the bus station, so we were able to find it very quickly. It's also located right across from Eyre Square and a short walk from Market St, Merchant St, and all the fun shopping/bar areas. Brian checked us in and we got set up in an 8-bed room. He was really informative and let us know that there was dinner and a pub crawl happening at the hostel that night, and also gave us a map and pointed out all the great things to do around Galway. He also helped us book a tour to the Cliffs of Moher the following day. Our room was great. The beds were pretty comfortable, there were storage lockers underneath our beds, and outlets right next to our beds. The set up was great and made for travellers! The bathrooms and showers were also super clean (the cleanest by far throughout our whole trip!), which was pretty exciting for us. For €10, we also participated in the pub crawl that evening and had an amazing time. Megan, who was the tour leader was so much fun and took us to some great spots. Overall, this hostel was amazing and one of the best I've stayed in. If I'm ever back in Galway, I'd happily stay here again.

Yeah, me neither, but here I was staying in my first youth hostel in I won't tell you how many years. Why? Well, it was part of a two-day tour package I bought through Galway Tours, and I assume to bring the cost down, they put people up in this place since it's right next to the Galway coach station where I was supposed to pick up the bus the following morning to Connemara. I have to admit I didn't pay attention to that detail in the online description and probably thought that it wasn't a big deal to stay in a hostel for one night. Well, it wasn't all that big a deal, but I have to tell you that the sight of six bunk beds in a small room (see photo) reminded me of the Dachau concentration camp tour I took years ago. I looked into the bathroom (granted a luxury since I assume most of the rooms have shared facilities) and saw that the shower stall had no real drainage, and there was little room to put any toiletries on the sink's ledge. I actually let myself think that perhaps I would have the room to myself until I noticed a huge backpack hidden under one of the bottom bunks. Then a young couple, a New York girl with her Peruvian boyfriend, came in to take another set of beds. OK, the adventure begins, and of course, I started to feel self-conscious about my age because I was surely the oldest lodger in that hostel that night. As it turned out, everyone was cool, and nobody snored. Thank heaven for small favors. But I just felt weird being in what felt like a crowded dorm room like I was spending spring break in Fort Lauderdale with Connie Francis and George Hamilton. I wasn't feeling my vibe here, and frankly it was much worse downstairs in the common area where the more rambunctious youth were making a racket until the wee hours. It was like a United Nations General Assembly meeting crossed with a slumber party. The following morning, when I tried to have a slice of toast, a young African girl looked at me and laughed in my face like a hyena. Gee, thanks for making me feel like an outcast. But I really can't complain much since the rate for a bed here is about $25 US. By the way, the young staff at the desk are quite nice, the other guests not so much.

We had 2 rooms, each with 2 beds, a kitchen/dining area, and a shared bathroom. There is free breakfast in the morning, which consists of bread, jams/jellies, cereal, coffee, and tea. If you stay here, at least in the apartment style rooms, make sure you listen to the instructions, or read them, on how to make sure you have hot water for the showers. If not, you'll be showering in ice cold water until you figure it out. I may, or may not, know this from experience. Otherwise, this place was really close to everything you need, especially the alley with all the bars.

It was decent for being a hostel and not too crowded nor trashy but the health concern of the mold and smell needs to be of concern and taken seriously. Definitely do not recommend staying there.

The morning breakfast was standard hostel fare (bread, jam, coffee, waffles, etc) but very clean dining area with friendly people. It is in a great location with easy walking access to the Galway bus station and all of the nightlife. It is on Quay Street which is the main drag so people will be out late on the street at nearby bars and may be a bit loud for sleeping. The staff was super friendly and happy to answer all of our travel questions. Was nicely and uniquely decorated and great WiFi!!!

However, there were a few things which made me feel like details were being overlooked and the accommodations were outdated. The real reason I can't justify more than three stars is that housekeeping came into my room when I specifically requested they didn't. I was woken up by knocking on the door and then before I could say anything, they opened the door. I thought this was incredibly strange since I had the do not disturb sign out. Not only that, but you are supposed to request housekeeping with a different sign so why they were coming in at all is confusing to me. I still had the do not disturb sign out the door when I left and upon returning, I noticed some cups had been replaced so they definitely came into the room while I was gone. That didn't make me feel very comfortable. The first towel I went to use had a giant hairball stuck to it. Definitely not mine since I hadn't even used the towels yet. After that, I felt like everything must be dirty. The bathroom also seemed really retro to me and not in a quaint way. The toilet was difficult to flush and the shower pressure wasn't great. Not to mention, the half glass in the shower drove me crazy and no matter how careful I was, the floor would get wet. The rest of the hotel seemed to be falling apart a bit. During my three night stay, the lights of one of the elevators were out the entire time making for some awkward rides with fellow guests. The handle on the front door of the hotel ended up breaking towards the end of the stay as well. Unfortunately, someone got sick on the stairwell and it took the staff until the next morning to adequately clean it up. The location, while fairly central, was a little off the beaten path compared to other lodging options like the Leonardo. I would've much preferred to stay there and will be avoiding Harbour Hotel during future visits to Galway.

The room had washcloths, AC, and a fridge with water which is not always common in Ireland. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of town.
